Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
Review by Def Freak7
"Tom Clancy just wants more money!!!!"
Here we are again, another Splinter Cell game and another excellent masterpiece of Xbox brilliance. This is probably the 10th game that Tom Clancy's had a say in. He also gets a ton of royalties in all this. So while the main reason of releasing Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is to keep a dominant series going, but also to give Tom Clancy even more money.
GRAPHICS: 10/10
Now you see why the Xbox is probably the most powerful machine on the market. This game looks incredibly realistic. I'd like to point out that a screenshot on the back of the box I saw was incredibly good-looking. I thought it was a cutscene, but then it said that it was an actual screenshot! HOLY SWEET JESUS THIS GAME IS GORGEOUS!!!!!! The environments are also incredibly realistic. It's amazing how immersive this game can get with these graphics. The cut-scenes, while I'm somewhat on the topic, are also incredibly well done. They are movie-calibur. Basically put, this game is the most BEAUTIFUL GAME I'VE EVER PLAYED!!!!!!!!
SOUND: 10/10
You'd think a stealth game would rely a lot on sound. And you'd be right. Luckily this area is also incredibly well done. Everything you do emits a sound. From stepping on one shard of glass to the big explosions, everything makes a sound. And boy does it matter how the sound works. One little sound can make the difference between staying stealthy or being found out! The voice-over work in the cutscenes are pretty good, with Michael Ironside as good ol' Sam Fisher. The music is incredible in this game. I'm a music eficionado and this is the best music I've ever heard in a game, and I've heard God of War. Once again, this the BEST SOUND I'VE EVER HEARD IN A GAME!!!!!
STORY: 10/10
To tell you the truth, I never really pay much attention to the story in this one, even though it's probably crucial. So I had to start over so I could pay attention. I'm not gonna spoil anything, but trust me, it's not too bad.
GAMEPLAY: 10/10
This series has always been known for re-defining stealth action, and this installment is no exception. You once again have to think your way through all of the situations you're put in and how you can get away without being noticed. However, this installment lets you have a knife now. This can be used for quick kills and better interrogation methods. With this, there are no more kill limitations. You can probably run-and-gun through the levels now with this. That means now you can use different styles to complete your levels. This opens the game up to many others who weren't into these type of games earlier. You also don't have alarm limitations. They even make a joke about it. I'd like to sample a spoiler-free dialogue section.
Fisher: Let me guess, three alarms and it's over.
Other guy: Don't be silly, this isn't a video game.
There see? Spoiler-free. All in all, this is probably the best in the Splinter Cell trilogy. Now I don't know if there'll be any more, but I hope there will be.
REPLAYABILITY/MULTIPLAYER: 10/10
Two words: Online co-op. This mode is just as unbelievable as Pandora Tomorrow. You can team up with a friend and be either two mercs or two spies and do certain goals, like retrieving information or stopping the spies from getting the info. This is always fun, and it once again redefines the genre of online games. BRAVO CLANCY!
FINAL SUMMARY:
This is the masterpiece that will get Tom Clancy all the money he wants and needs 100x over. This is hands-down the best in the series.
BUY, RENT, OR RUN AWAY SCREAMING?
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD BUY THIS THING! YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF!
