Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict
Review by Joshua Stoll
"Simply Unreal"
Ah yes, Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict is a game of intense gameplay that leaves pounts of sweat on your controller after a bout. It is a game filled with massive tactical skills, furious shooting, and a new 3rd-person add-on that makes this game the game of the year on the XBOX console. Yes folks, only XBOX could of pulled this off!
Graphics: 10/10
Why such a high score? Simply because the graphics are awesome. They have the framework of a carpenter. This is currently the best looking game on any console period, considering the graphics and the time put into them. The count-parts of the guns and maps are sweet, and the funny thing is, no bugs or lag from this. I would even say these graphics are far beyond the expectations Halo 2 have.
Sound: 9/10
I was impressed. I am glad that the music and sound fades into the gun-firing scenes and gives you that edge you need. It fits each scenario, and the sound effects of the shots, the killing, and even a slice of a knife is nice. Oh, bye the way, you know why it is rated Mature? It is because they included every single curse word you can think of in this game. It gets very strong, and each word is different in different situations. Very nicely done to improve the feeling of gaming right.
Gameplay: 10/10
This is where I say, "WTF MATE?" No, that was a joke. The gameplay is better then the first Unreal, and the last Unreal Tournament, IMO. The shooting is the same old, but due to the new way it is used in the gameplay, its a inverted style of Halo a little bit. Its nicely done. We also have a new add-in, the melee scenario, in which you can go third-person to melee others, and also do a teleporting type melee, which can be executed by jumping into the air and holding the right trigger, aiming at your opponent, then releasing it as you go off for a joy ride. This third-person add-on also gives viewers the edge of new gameplay, as you can see more around you, and also check out your cool new jumping flips in which 'cruiserweights' of the game (the girls) can jump and flip in the air while popping you with a rocket launcher. This game is finally also fun single player, as the AI is much more advanced and smarter each time you turn up the difficulty, and the match types online are tremendous, but just as fun offline, no doubt.
Unlockables: 9/10
You can go on a tournament and unlock different maps, characters, and also new gameplay modes after you beat each match. If you turn up the difficulty, you can get more hardcore gameplay and rack up new stuff as well. Their is also a campaign, in which you can unlock new characters in the game. It leaves you hooked on it and I doubt you'll finish these tourneys in a time span of a week. It leaves gamers hooked on like a fish.
Story Mode: 10/10
You play Anubis in the campaign, and alike the tournaments (as I noted above) you can unlock new things by going through this story. Its a load of fun and I haven't beaten it, but you unlock new guys and new things when you load up the new match types, and it will also leave you hooked, no matter what situation you are in, this story is great! And cut scenes as well, first Unreal to do that, and it did it on XBOX!
Maps: 10/10
People say there is too many maps, but let me say this. The developers did this for a reason. It gives more places online to kill guys in large combat areas, or short, hellraising areas where each time you respawn you are being pumped with a rock launcher or sliced through by a melee like sliced bread. 40 maps people, and this game will give you loads amounts of time on your hands going through them and facing the UNREAL bots!
Replay Value: 10/10
The replay value is good, however, some of you geeky rpg'ing guys might not be hooked on to this like the hardcore, intense UC/T fans are. Loads of maps, tons of matches on tournaments, and online, This has loads of fun and if you want to have a good year, then I request you buy this game, it is what fills in those empty spots in your life.
Overall: 10/10
This game is certainly a buy. And I doubt you will want to rent this game, because when it comes out for renting, your store will have millions of kids renting it before you, so I suggest getting it, because if you rent it, you will not want to take it back to store.
