Still Life
Review by Sailor Goon
"A mature point and click adventure"
So this is basically a point and click game, which wont be for everyone but it still is an engrossing game.
Gameplay
Okay, so the gameplay isnt exactly extreme or complex by any means. You basically follow the story, and collect clues and explore. Your character cannot die, you dont fight epic battles, or anything of that nature. This will probably detract a lot of people from playing this game. This game uses much more complex (ala 'mature') puzzles than in most games I have played. They make you think a lot more than usual gaming puzzles.
Story
Still Life has a mature, movie-like story. It presents itself throughout the game, and through really well done CG movies. The story is not intended for kids by any means, and not for the faint of heart either. There's a lot of gore as well, which I feel is necessary for the type of story being told.
Sound
I'd call the sound here 'average.' Theres nothing special really about the music, in fact there barely is any. Music is sometimes used only to add emotion to a certain scene. Sound effects are decent, and the voice acting is alright although sometimes its delivery is some-what cheesy.
Graphics
Its a tough call rating the graphics of the game. It showcases some nice pre-rendered backgrounds but nothing compared to some other recent games that use pre-rendered backdrops. I found the character models to be a tad PS2ish as well. The CG movies were really well done though, although it seemed to be running at a low resolution as they seemed grainy. Im still up in the air however, if the developers intended this.
All in all, Still Life is a worthy game to play. However, because of the nature of the game, it has little to no replayability whatsover. Additionally, the basic point and click nature of the game is not for everyone, so while I enjoy Still Life, I'd still recommend anyone to rent the game first before buying it.
