Indigo Prophecy
Review by hybridial
"The closest to a movie a game has ever got..."
This game has interested me ever since I found out about it. I love adventure games, and I love story driven games. These two elements combine very well in Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy.
Graphics - 8/10
The graphics are solid enough, indeed the environments are all quite beautiful. The Character models however ae not the most complex or detailed. However, the graphics are not a hugely important factor in what is so great about this game.
Audio - 9/10
The game has an excellently varied soundtrack, complimented by great sound effects and some of the best voice acting in videogame history. Definitely one of the games strong points.
Story - 10/10
Definitely the games single strongest point, the way in which the gameplay ties in with and drives the narrative is what makes Fahrenheit such a unique experience. Lucas Kane finds himself to have committed a murder, but does not remember why he did it. From there the game allows you to witness the story unfold from the perspective of three different characters. It does get a bit weird and moves away from its Psychological thriller starting point to something a bit more science fictional, but what is so great about it is the game does not take a standard all action approach to how it plays. There are as many social sequences as there are action sequences, and this helps the game be the emotional experience creator David Cage wanted it to be.
Gameplay - 8/10
The basic gameplay is fun enough, mixing puzzle and action sequences. Fans of Shenmue will like active cut scenes where players must move the analogues sticks as prompted on screen. However, it is not the most exciting or original way of playing a game ever. Still entertaining in the end. However, what is quite original about the gameplay as that you don't just play as a character, you play their role in the story. You can control their actions to an extent, manipulate conversations and evidence, and live these characters lives for a few crazy days. Truly this is an innovative game.
Lifespan - 7/10
It's not a very long game, but the uniqueness and variety of the experience, as well as the extremely compelling storyline makes replaying the game like re-watching a good movie.
Overall - 9/10
Original, emotive and genuinely deserving of the label, mature. I hope that we will see more games like Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy in the future.
