Indigo Prophecy
Review by Muck0 Man
"Cinematic gameplay at it's finest"
Introduction: Once in awhile a game comes around and adds a new twist to an old genre. Indigo Prophecy does just this for the adventure genre. It rids the bad and expands on the good to make one decent adventure/action game that will appeal to any gamer or movie fanatic. Many people criticize that games are for playing, not watching. But Indigo Prophecy takes this comment and throws it out the window. Every action done in the game is done by you. From drinking milk to dodging deadly angels.
Gameplay:9/10 There is so many things to interactive with in the game and you can interact with them the way you choose. The game makes it so that you feel like your part of the game and not just watching the character do everything for you. Dialog is different than any game you've played before. They try to keep the pace of a real conversation by only giving you a limited amount of time to responds. All actions are done by moving the right analog stick in a certain direction and it works brilliantly. The only problem is that sometimes you'll find yourself having trouble walking around due to camera angles. But that is such a small problem and doesn't really lower the overall experience.
Story:10/10 This is the place where the gameplay shines the most. The story is intriguing and original. You'll keep playing and and playing to just find out what happens next. Few games get you this hooked and the only way you could possibly dislike it is that you hate a good story. Characters are emotional and full of depth and have their own internal conflicts that go along side with the main plot. The main plot centers around 3 characters. Lucas, an average man that is trying to find out what possessed him to kill a man, and Carla and Tyler, the cops assigned to the case of the murder. These three characters add a different perspective to the game because your not only trying to solve the murder and catch the killer, but you're also trying to avoid the police and solve the mystery.
Graphics:8/10 This game is fairly detailed and filled with unique environments that never seem bland or reused. The winter storm adds a perfect background for this chilly story and makes you feel it is really as cold as the game suggests it is. Character models are well detailed and are never reused. Also facial animation is brilliant in this game and adds to the characters emotional status. But being on the Xbox, this game could have looked better and the graphics feel more like a 2003 title than a 2005 game.
Sound:10/10 The voices in the game are done very well and all fit with the characters that speak them. I mean it when I say that the voice actors have done an outstanding job of breathing life into the characters and the story. The soundtrack to this game is also good which is a surprise since you wouldn't expect a good soundtrack from an adventure game but Indigo Prophecy features licenced tracks from different artists. Many of them are not well known but none of the songs are crappy.
Play Time/Replayability:7/10 Sadly, as with all adventure games this title is short. The average gamer is going to beat this under 8 hours. There are some bonus material but nothing that stands out or adds anything to the main game. Some hidden outfits would have been nice. There are a lot of things that you can do different choices that can be made throughout the game and there are many endings to see. But pretty much if you're going to be playing this story over again for anything it's going to be for the awesome story.
Final Recommendation:Buy This game is a breathe of fresh air and is so different than the games that normally come out every month. If your into great stories where you make the decisions then you will be in heaven with this title. People need to buy games like this to show that adventure titles are not a dead genre and that this is a push in the right direction for new innovative titles to immerge from.
