Voodoo Vince

"A Little Doll of a Review"
Platform games are a genre that have been around since the NES days with the release of Super Mario Brothers. It is hard to create a game in this genre without it appearing like a rip-off to the series that started it all, the above mentioned Super Mario Brothers. In any case, game makers still create games in the category and more times than not it drive me to try them. In this case I am very glad that I played this title.
I picked up a copy of Voodoo Vince from the bargain bin. I think it hit the bin far too fast, but I am glad that it did because it allowed me to pick up a copy of the title I had wanted to try. I will admit that the game itself in not groundbreaking. It has a lot of the collecting and attacking you see in a lot of other titles in this genre and a unique mechanic where you beat on yourself to do damage, but it is the world the game takes place and the entertaining story and characters that really make this game shine.
The game takes place in New Orleans and the main character is a voodoo doll named Vince. His owner has been kidnapped and he has to get her back. See, pretty standard fair for a platform game. The unique hook is that Vince can do damage to himself to hurt the enemies around him. Vince cannot really die, but when he gets hit, some of the magic that is bringing him to life gets taken away. Once that magic is gone, he is no longer animated.
The title is also truly funny. The main villain is the classic cartoon moron that has no business being a villain, but that does not make him any less entertaining. Plus, the snide comments from Vince cannot stop you from laughing.
I have sent messages to the game company who created this title and it does not appear that another chapter for this little doll will hit the shelves. I highly recommend you pick up a copy; it has to be no more than $10, and enjoy this highly entertaining title.
