The Matrix: Path of Neo
Review by smackydefrog
"A place for every book... every book in its place, for the Matrix is another book that has yet to be finished."
The Matrix: Path of Neo is a twist for all Matrix fans in the world. We're used to Neo being the ultra kick-butt hero he is, and not having to even try to defeat his foes. Now, in this new installment by the Wachowski Brothers, we ge to see a different side of our hero: one that is more uber and that can actually do god-like martial arts moves.
Gameplay: 10/10
Don't like games where you're constantly having to press excessive amounts of buttons? No prob. M: PoN has a very simplistic gaming and controller style. Combos might be a bit harder, but the basic controls you can have down in 5 minutes. The extra controls are no problem, either; you won't use them much throughout the game. A moderately difficult game to play, yes, but definitely an exciting game experience if you are a Matrix fan.
Story: 10/10
In M:PoN, you take on the role of Thomas A. Anderson, your everyday lazy company worker. Until he gets a bone-chilling message on his computer at home. After that, he is spiraled into the fantasy of the Matrix, fighting programs and trying to awaken others from this perpetual dream. This god of karate and focus can do everything, from fly to battle Agents of the system. Take out of your arsenal new weapons and levels in this game, along with brand-new characters and a secret ending written by the Wachowski Brothers.
Graphics/Sound: 7/10
This is what falls short of what I expected. The character design is good and there are a variety of sounds. Some of the original actors do the voices of their own characters. But the actual voice-overs are terrible, and some animations look hurriedly done. The close-ups of minority characters look like what a 2nd grade student could do. In short, the graphics in the game are terrible, and are lackluster in my opinion.
Playtime/Replayability: 9/10
This game takes a long time to beat. In your first few hours, you might only be 1/6 of the way through the first movie in the actual game. They definitely took their time in making this game as long and exciting as possible. New twists come along with every turn, making you play longer and not want to stop. The game is a challenge each time through, and will never get boring anytime soon!
Final Recommendation: 9
This is definitely a game you should get. Though $49.99 is a bit pricey for it. Renting it first would be a good course, because it doesn't automatically appeal to everyone. But if it does to you, Target I hear always carries a few extra copies if it's a busy day...
So, red pill or blue pill? Choose wisely, because you'll never be able to turn back. So, shall we see how far the rabbit hole goes?
