Burnout Revenge
Review by Xtreme Gamer2
"A few bugs and minor annoyances that keep this game from perfection"
I'm not quite sure what makes this game so fun. It could be the ultimate sense of speed. It could be the fact that you can ram opponents into walls or oncoming traffic and watch them crash. Whatever it is, Burnout sure does deliver a fun fast-paced racing game.
Graphics: They're so clear, it's sick. You can see reflections in the shiny paint jobs on the cars, the lighting is done beautifully, and the sense of speed you get from the blurring around the edges is excellent, and the sparks from trading paint with another racer are all excellently done.
Gameplay: Overall, it's smooth and seamless. The light cars handle nicely, and the heavy vehicles.... well, they aren't supposed to, are they? The game packs both race (and all it's spin-offs) and crash modes. An awesome thing about the racing: if you crash, you aren't screwed. You can use "aftertouch" to steer your car into other rivals, to achieve a takedown. A new addition to the game is "checking traffic", where you can ram smaller same-way traffic and send it flying into a rival racer, and achieve boost at the same time.
Sound Effects: Awesome right here. All the little things here really add up to a lot. Motors buzzing, screeching tires, glass shattering, the Doppler Effect on cars as you whiz by, the sound your car produces as it starts to boost, and the Impact Time sounds, as everything is slowed down... again, so much really adds up.
Music: Well, every game has it's faults, and Burnout Revenge is no different. The soundtrack with this game is sub-par, but what more can you expect from EA Trax? Never fear, however, because the game gives you the custom soundtrack option, so it doesn't have to be so bad.
Overall: 9/10
If you're looking for a fast-paced racing game where crashing sometimes produces the best moments, pick it up, now. You won't be sorry.
