Version FINAL

Okay, just to get things started, let's go over a few basic things that
are irrelevant to the guide itself.

Well, for one, I just simply love this game. I play pretty much a large
percentage of any games that get put out. I scout reviews, read a
little on the forums, and then I just wing it from there. I enjoy a lot
of games, and some are not always what you would consider triple A
titles. For instance, im a huge Operation Flashpoint fan, but this
doesn't mean I don't play good games. When I came across Test Drive
Unlimited, it struck me in the right way. Everything about it, from its
awesome setting to its sweet online mode, it just all clicked at once.
So, because of this special relationship I have gained from playing
TDU, I have decided to do a complete guide covering everything in the
game from A to Z. It took a lot of dedication and work, but it helps to
love the game you're working with. Thanks for stopping by, now go and
see what it is you need.

Test Drive Unlimited is rad, in case you hadn't already noticed, so if
you feel the same, send me friends invite, via Xbox Live. My XBL GT:

CHAPTER ONE

[General Information on Test Drive Unlimited]

Test Drive Unlimited takes place on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu, home
to the iconic Pearl Harbor, astounding Diamond Head coastlines and the
towering volcanoes, Waianae and Koolau. But why exactly are you here?
When you begin the game you pick from a group of 3D avatars, lined-up
at the local airport, from here, this character you pick will be your
in-game avatar. He/she is completely customizable, you can change their
clothes and even there physical appearance, but you may wonder. Why are
they here?! Well, the story is quite simple. You (the avatar too) are
here to enjoy the fine luxuries of Hawaii. Let's cover the "Living"
part of things.

Getting started in Oahu

- Avatar: You can pick between 6 different character models from the
start. Once you have selected your personal favorite, you're off to the
island of Hawaii. Get used to seeing this 3D avatar quite often,
because every time you go into a store, buy a car, or chill out at your
home, you're going to see this character. Luckily you can customize
them at various stores through out Oahu. And if that wasn't enough, you
can sculpt them in the options menu at any of your homes.

- Housing: From the start of the game, you choose a car to rent, and
from this point, you're to drive to the nearest Real estate Agency, so
that you can purchase a home to live in. Now, your starting options
will be rather limited, but as time moves on, you start earning more
dough; you'll be able to purchase a mansion on the Diamond Head coast,
in no time! Your house shows up on the GPS Map as a green House Icon.
You can always fast travel to your home, think of it as your base of
operations. You can check your game progress, achievements and do all
kinds of things here. Do remember this; your house has limited garage
space. Your going have to go out and buy more of them, IF you plan to
buy every car in Test Drive Unlimited, and luckily there is well over
70 different properties to buy through all of Oahu. It's just a matter
of exploring enough roads to discover them on your map (In which we'll
cover later). You can also buy and sell cars at your home either online
or offline.

- Transportation: After you've purchased your new home, it's time to go
buy a new Car. Your choices are limited at first, but as you progress
further into the game, you'll start to unlock the more appealing
vehicles. Just take what you can now, and head for the streets. You
will be racing other racer's that are in the same class as you.

Game Basics

Where to start? This is the first real big chunk of the guide, so I
guess we can go over some of the game basics first eh?

Controls - Xbox 360

Default Gameplay Controls

A - Flash Headlights / Enter Location
B - Downshift
X - E-Brake
Y - Shift Up
RT - Accelerate
LT - Brake and Reverse
RB - Change View (Hold for 2 Seconds - Freeze Camera)
LB - Check Rear View
Back - Reset Car
Start - Pause
D-Pad UP - Raise and Lower Car windows
D-Pad RIGHT - Open Island GPS Map
D-Pad DOWN - Cycle Map Zoom
D-Pad LEFT - Scroll auxiliary menus
Left Thumbstick - Steer
Right Thumbstick - Camera Movement

Game Advancements and Navigation

Test Drive Unlimited uses a leveling up system through out the game. As
you unlock achievements, you're doing more than just boosting your
gamerscore, you happen to be contributing to your overall level in the
game itself. Here are the various levels. Do note, these levels
determine what events you're allowed to take part in throughout Oahu.

0-29 Points - Rookie - Staring level. Limited Access
30-90 Points - Amateur - Photo mode available. More access
90-179 - Pro - Editor Mode unlocked. More access
180-449 - Expert - Unlock Ford Island. More access
450-999 - Champion - Unlock Oahu Raceway. All access
1000 - Ace - Just bragging rights

NOTE: You are going to have to work your butt off for these
achievements. Don't be surprised if it takes 30 or so hours before you
reach Champion.

GPS Navigation

Driving Aid - The Driving aid is an onscreen GPS system that helps the
player navigate the dense landscape of Oahu. If your doing a Vehicle
transport mission, a time trial or a race, the GPS will tell you when,
and where to turn. But let's say we want to go to a certain Vehicle
showroom (or another location on the map). All you have to do is open
your full Island map of Oahu by pressing RIGHT on the D-pad, and then
use the bumpers (RB and LB) to switch the types of Icons that will
appear. Select the 'key locations' tab and use the left thumbstick to
scroll to the area you wish to travel to, and press A. If you haven't
traveled there yet, the game will force you to drive there. From that
point on, the GPS will tell you what direction to go, and even paint a
green line on the proper path in which you're to follow. It's much
easier than it sounds. Just watch for the on-screen arrows when your
approaching a turn.

NOTE: If you mess up, and turn down the wrong road, the GPS system will
attempt to make a new path; however, this isn't always going to work.
There also seems to be an issue if you designate a location while on
the major freeways that run through the center of the state. So pull
off at an exit so that the GPS system can calculate a more accurate
path. Much like a real GPS, it's not perfect.

Icons on the GPS

When you open up your map of Oahu, you may be overwhelmed by Icons.
Luckily they are separated by four separate tabs along the top. Just
tap the bumpers (LB and RB) to navigate through them all.

- Challenges and Jobs

Test Drive Unlimited has over 300 challenges, so if you need a game to
keep you busy, this is the one. Below are all the types of things
you'll encounter on the road

* Races (You know what these are)
* Time Trials (beat the clock)
* Speed (set top speeds going past cameras)
* Courier (transport cars)
* Hitchhiker (take a person to selected location)
* Top Model (ditto as above)

Quick Challenge - If you press A to use your vehicles High beams flash,
and if you happen to be behind someone, you're basically asking if they
want to race. (No, not civilians) either AI cruisers, whom will be on
bikes or in sports cars, or online Xbox Live players, and then you,
place a wager. From there you race a custom route that you can make (if
your challenger).

- Key Locations

Car and Bike Showrooms - You can access these as you discover them
through out the game. These are the places you go to either dream, or
make your life just that much better! The cars (a.k.a - the best part)
will be covered a little later on.

Things to do in the showroom

- Test Drive any of the cars for a 1:30
- Check the car(s) out using the right thumbstick
- You can even go inside the car and check out the interior look
- Open the doors using LEFT and RIGHT on the D-pad

These are all the showrooms in Test Drive Unlimited

NOTE: If you download new cars, some new showrooms will become open;
you can even see them through out the city, so wait for an update to
get the locals on those.

Housing and Real Estate

When you go to buy a home, you must first find a realtors office. These
Real estate agents will help you buy or sell a home. And, sometimes,
even make a straight up trade. Why do you need a place to live in TDU?
Read on to find out why.

In Test Drive Unlimited, you have access to over 100 homes. We're
talking condos in downtown Honolulu, to beach mansions on the Diamond
cost. The houses in this game are very expensive and if you were to buy
the 100 or so houses you'd have to spend over 50 Million dollars. Homes
usually range from 200,000 to 3,000,000 dollars. They are all different
and unique and truly say something about your personality. Each home
also contains a set amount of garage space. Of course your cheaper
homes have only 4 car garages, some of your big mansions out on hills
and near the Rain forest have 8 or sometimes 10 car garages.

Here is an example of the value of a home

Kaukonahua House - $160,000 - 4 Car Garage

Vs.

Mokuleia Seventh Heaven - $3,500,000 - 10 car Garage

So, as you can see, houses can range from a regular home to a coastal
escape, so save your money!

There you have it! You're now ready to live it up in Oahu! But wait,
this game is a racing game right?! Check out the next chapter to find
out what kind of Cars, Bikes and more, are available to you!

CHAPTER TWO

[Vehicle Information]

Ahhh yes, the open emerald roads of Oahu, and all their awesome real-
world attractions come to life in Test Drive Unlimited. In this section
we're going to learn a little about the police, and A LOT about the
Car's, both those out and available on Xbox Live Marketplace.

Police - Oahu's finest may be a rare sight, but all it takes is one
swell accident, and they come at you like bats out of Hell. Let's not
forget, if you speed or drive recklessly, you'll also be pursued. If
you're just speeding, pull over and accept the minor ticket. But if
you've gotten into a few nasty wrecks, then put the pedal to the medal,
and haul ass. While at first it may seem easy, the more you run and
DON'T getaway, the worse It gets.

There are three levels of police enforcement

1 Badge - Minor Offense - Police cruiser(s) will chase you at high
speeds, ticket price minor.

2 Badges - Major Offense - Police cruisers will chase you at max speed,
but cab still be lost, but takes a little longer to do so. You may
encounter road blocks.

3 Badges - Maximum Offense - Police are violent, and odds of getting
away are slim. Ticket price is mind numbingly bad. You should never
have to go to 3 badges, its common sense that if you reach two and
start having a hard time, to just give up so that your ticket isn't so
damaging to your bank account.

NOTE: If you don't have enough money, and you are pulled over, you will
be sent to jail. Now, in game it makes you wait 30 seconds, and then
you're allowed out, but they take all of your remaining money, which
sucks. So remember, unless you're a multi-millionaire, don't try and
out run a 2 or 3 badge rating. That is unless you know a trick, but
this is still recommend for all new comers.

Some Tips for losing the fuzz

#1 - Don't bother trying to "throw them off", you can travel down a
bunch of different roads, and either way you end up with the cops
following right up the rear.

#2 - Traffic is thick on smaller roads, so if you got a badass road car
like a Z06 or some kind of Ferrari, use that wicked cornering to your
advantage, and swerve in and out of oncoming traffic, and this should
get at least one cop off your tail. The same tactic can be used against
the police using light poles, and it's always a great feeling to watch
them smash into one.

#3 - Don't try to smash your way through a roadblock, you'll thank me
later.

#4 - On a bike always attempt to stay in the middle of the lanes or at
least one of them! I was once going just over 170 with a Kawasaki
driving on the line between lanes, and the cops just went crashing into
everything. Works pretty good once you learn how to use a bike the
right way.

The cops aren't encountered as much as I may make it sound so don't
fret, the game is more about fun than run.

Time for the good part...

Vehicles - Here's the good part! In this following section I will go
over each Car and bike in the game IN DETAIL. That includes the Cars
that are downloadable. So let's get to it!

First, I'll List the Cars real quick, those that are available both
from the Start and after downloading the four cars packs. An * will
Indicate the fact that the Car is DLC.

After this list, I'll go into detail.

These are all in game stats, and can be viewed at any showroom and or
garage.

Mauser's Favorites: Corvette Z06, Spyker C8, Ferrari 308, GT500, and
anything with Lamborghini on the hood. Heck, I like a lot of the cars
in this game, and what's great is that you can customize them to some
extent. So cars, like the Mustang GT, will change their look when you
mod them. For instance, the Mustang GT changes into a Saleen Mustang.
But for the most part, it's all motor stuff. Also, don't be afraid to
buy a car of a higher class early on in the game. You can save it for
later, and have a toy to free ride in.

Points of interest in Oahu

There are a lot of cool places to go in Oahu, so try some of these to
keep you entertained.

Ford Island - No traffic, but one emotional drive, as you Re-visit the
site of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

Mountains and Volcanoes - Some back roads that lead in land will take
you up and down these amazing paths and the sites are amazing! Although
you may have to get lost a little.

Dirt and Gravel roads - Follow these to see some neat things, like
hidden farms and mansions.

Oahu Raceway - A race track, I think that pretty much says it all.

Got your drive on now? Good! Now let's learn about some fun stuff!

CHAPTER THREE

[Unlockables, achievements and a late good bye]

Unlockables

Bike Showrooms - You're going to have to drive around the island and
unlock every car showroom first. You will then receive a message saying
they are now open.

Photos Mode - Awesome if you like making your own sweet pics. Select
this anytime in the pause menu and select the tab photos and make one.
You can zoom in and out as well as change angles and effects. Rad eh?
Unlock this mode by simply achieving the level of amateur.

Editor Mode - Make your own race, basically like a quick challenge but
with a few more options. Reach pro level to unlock.

Deluxe Paint Shop - Unlocked by completing the race challenge, "around
the bowl". Once unlocked, it allows you to make any color you want and
toss it on your car. Some preset colors are actually pearlescent, but
cost a bit more. Adds some flavor, so you can stand out.

Bonus Home - Explore all roads and you unlock a house with a 10 car
garage. This takes about 40 hours.
