// Introduction //
//==========================================================================//
One of the more useful but nonetheless massively detailed parts of
Dead Rising is the Juice mixing part of the game. In a few places in the mall
you can find Blenders. Combine two food or food-related items in the Blender
and you'll get a type of "Juice" back. There are seven varieties of Juices,
and each has a "special" or "power-up" effect on Frank. These range from
useful effects like making you temporarily undamageable to oddball effects,
such as making your spit turn into bullets. There is also one type of Juice
which will effectively disable you for a short period at somewhat random
intervals. All of these Juices restore large amounts of health in addition to
providing certain effects, and you can use any of them as an ingredient in the
Blender to make another type of Juice.
Certain parts of the game are notoriously difficult to get through
without the help from one of the Juices. At the very least using Quickstep,
which makes you run at somewhere from double to quadruple speed, will shave
vital seconds off your travel time.
This guide will eventually list all of the possible ingredient
combinations and their resulting Juices. However, as there are no less than
fourty-four (44) ingredients you can use to make Juices, including the Juices
themselves, it may take some time before this list contains all 990 possible
combinations. In the meantime ingredient combinations will be added in order
of relative convenience, based on how likely a player is to come across key
ingredients within decent range of a Blender.

Because this FAQ is primarily intended to be posted on the GameFAQs
and Gamespot websites it was necessary to format it as a basic text list. The
actual list I use when I research new ingredient combinations is an Excel
(.xls) spreadsheet, which in my opinion is the ideal format to display the
information in, particularly because you can scroll the table in any direction
and the row and column titles (y'know, that tell you what ingredients you're
looking at) will stay on screen. You can download this version from my
website, which I have tinyurl'd here: http://tinyurl.com/jm5gp
If you don't have Excel, no worries! Microsoft offers a free viewer
for all Windows users, which I have tinyurl'd here: http://tinyurl.com/5az9k
You can also consider using OpenOffice, found at OpenOffice.org. It's free,
open source, and works on pretty much every operating system out there.
If there are any additional ingredient combinations you've discovered
please feel free to email me at yukichigai (at) hotmail (dot) com. You can

// How To //
//==========================================================================//
I would be a bad FAQ writer if I didn't at least explain the basics of
how to make Juices properly. In order to mix two items together in a Blender
you must first switch items in your inventory until you get to your first
ingredient. With the ingredient in hand go to the Blender, and when the
yellow indicator is highlighted and tells you to press B to "Examine" it,
press B. This puts your first item in the Blender. No, you can't get it back
out. To add the second item, you guessed it, switch to it and Examine the
Blender again. The Blender will do its thing for a bit, then spit out a
colored thermos-looking container. The color is indicative of the Juice you
made, and it will have the name in parethesis when you get close enough to it.
//==========================================================================//
// The Juices //
//==========================================================================//
There are a total of seven (7) Juices in the game, 6 with a variety of
useful abilities and one that will f%$# you up. Save for the latter, each has
a place in the game where it is most useful, some more than others. Knowing
what each does and how to use them will make a complete play-through of the
game that much easier. You may also consider carrying Juices with you even if
you don't intend to use their particular abilities, as they heal more than any
other consumable/health item in the game.
It should also be noted that you can use multiple Juices at the same
time and have their effects applied simultaneously. In particular, this does
apply to Zombait and Untouchable.
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------//
// Quickstep (White) //
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------//
I'm listing Quickstep first because it is probably the most useful out
of all the Juices in the game. Quickstep has a very literal name: it makes
you step quickly. It's hard to figure out exactly how much faster you go when
using it, but I would estimate anywhere from double speed to quadruple speed.
Quickstep is useful for much more than just getting from point A to point B in
a hurry; many Psychopaths who are normally impossible to get close to for any
period are much easier to take down using Quickstep, as you can attack and
then dart away quickly. Zombies will also have a hard time attacking you;
unless you run straight into the middle of a pack of zombies they shouldn't be
able to even touch you.
It should be noted that while you walk faster while using Quickstep,
the rest of your actions are not sped up. Switching items, jumping, or any of
your normal or special attacks will drop you back to normal speed temporarily
while they are performed.
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------//
// Untouchable (Red) //
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------//
Untouchable is another Juice with a very literal name: it makes you
untouchable. That is NOT to say it makes you invulnerable or undamagable.
All Untouchable does is prevents zombies from attacking you or grabbing you.
They will still wander towards you as normal, but once they get within your
immediate vicinity they will appear to lose interest. Unfortunately the area
around you that is affected does not seem to be wide enough to completely stop
some armed zombies from attacking while you are running, particularly the
knife-carrying yellow-shirt zombies. Untouchable also has no effect on non-
zombie enemies.
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------//
// Nectar (Orange/Yellow) //
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------//
Nectar is one of the first and easiest juices you are able to make,
but its effect is not noticable until partway through Day 1, when you see your
first Queen. After that, drinking Nectar will cause a Queen to appear in your
immediate vicinity. However, drinking another Nectar while the Nectar
"effect" is shown in the bottom-right of the screen will not produce another
Queen; you must wait for the "effect" to wear off before it will work.
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------//
// Energizer (Green) //
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------//
Energizer has perhaps the second most misleading name in the game.
Drinking Energizer will render you temporarily invulnerable to all attacks.
You can still be knocked down, grabbed and otherwise physically halted, but
any damage that would be associated with that will not be applied. For all
that this Juice does, however, it is remarkably short in duration. From the
moment you drink the juice you will have perhaps ten seconds of its effect.
This can, of course, be lengthened by using the Cooking book, found in the
Entrance Plaza in Everyone Luvs Books. Beyond that, it is only effective in
a few select situations.
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------//
// Spitfire (Blue) //
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------//
Spitfire is the most oddball Juice of all. It is easy to overlook its
effect if you don't know how to find it. After drinking Spitfire, switch to
unarmed combat by pressing up on the D-pad, then hold RT to go into aim mode.
Once there, aim at, say, the head of an unsuspecting zombie and hit X. Frank
will spit at the zombie, only instead of just gobbing on its face the spit
will tear through its head like a bullet. That's because Spitfire turns your
spit into bullets! Save for a little travel lag, Spitfire-affected spit
behaves much like bullets from a Handgun, though the damage may be higher from
Spitfire spit.
How useful Spitfire is remains highly debated. Some claim it is only
meant as an amusing ability with no significant reason for use, whereas others
say it is a useful (though hard to master) ability which one can use as a
secondary or fallback ranged weapon, particularly for some Psychopath battles.
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------//
// Zombait (Purple/Pink) //
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------//
Zombait, as one can guess, turns you into zombie bait. Just about
every zombie in whatever area you are in will move towards you, for the most
part ignoring everything else in the area. The latter part is what makes it
useful, as certain Survivor escort missions can become all but impossible
depending on the areas you need to go through due to the sheer number of
zombies. At the cost of taking a little more damage you can ensure your
escortees are relatively safe as they travel towards the Security Room. Just
make sure to set a waypoint for them, rather than having them follow you.
Though it was mentioned earlier, you CAN use Zombait in conjunction
with Untouchable so that you are only surrounded by zombies, rather than
mobbed and eaten by them.
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------//
// Randomizer (Black) //
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------//
Randomizer has the most deceptive name in the entire game. Despite
what you might thing Randomizer does not apply a random Juice effect. The
only thing Randomizer randomizes is your bowels. Yes, I mean that. After
drinking Randomizer Frank will clutch his gut, drop whatever he has in hand,
and you will hear a most unhealthy gurgling come from his intestines. This
will continue for about 10-20 seconds, though you can speed up the process by
button mashing and wiggling the L stick. But that's not it, no no no. After
that the "gastrointestinal distress" will reoccur at random intervals three to
five more times, leaving you vulnerable at unexpected moments.
I have heard very scattered reports that this Juice can in fact behave
as you would think it should, i.e. give you a random Juice effect from any of
the other six Juices. However, I have tested this Juice into the ground, as
it were, and every time I've used it I've gotten the "randomized bowels"
effect and nothing else. If the former is how the Juice is supposed to behave
then I think it is safe to say that some coder at Capcom screwed up.
As you can imagine, this is a useless Juice, other than the health it
provides. The only possible reasons you should have for making up any
Randomizer are to mix with another ingredient to get your desired Juice, to
complete the Gourmet achievement, or to get rid of a "spoiled" product, i.e.
Rotten Pizza and Spoiled Meat, and eventually turn it into something useful.
//==========================================================================//
// Useful Mixes //
//==========================================================================//
Before I start in with the complete list of every possible mix you can
make in the game, let me give you some of the more useful and readily
accessable mixes, ones which you are likely to use frequently.
COFFEE CREAMER + ORANGE JUICE = QUICKSTEP
FROZEN VEGETABLES + ORANGE JUICE = QUICKSTEP
These two mixes are likely to be the most common mixes you use, as the
ingredients can be semi-reliably found between the Security Room and Colombian
Roastmasters in Paradise Plaza, which is probably the most convenient Blender
location in the game. Early in the game, Coffee Creamer will appear regularly
in the Security room. Combined with the infinite supply of Orange Juice found
in Colombian Roastmasters you can mix up Quickstep for most of the key scoops
and battles during the first parts of the game. In later parts of the game
the Security Room will suddenly stop offering Coffee Creamer. Fortunately
there are several cardboard boxes (6) on the path between the Security Room
and Colombian Roastmasters; while their contents are not guaranteed, more
often than not breaking open all the boxes you see on your way through will
give you at least one package of Frozen Vegetables.
ORANGE JUICE + PIE = UNTOUCAHBLE
PIE + PIE = UNTOUCHABLE
You can find these ingredients in Colombian Roastmasters, and if you
need to head through some area of large zombie density this will save your
tookus right quick. Seeing as there's an infinite, inexhaustable supply of
both ingredients there for the game's duration you should have no trouble
making up some Untouchable whenever you want.
ORANGE JUICE + ORANGE JUICE = NECTAR
Probably the easiest to remember, OJ + OJ will give you Nectar. This
is best used at Colombian Roastmasters, using their infinite supply of OJ.
Personally I can say that I was only able to rescue Pamela from the horde of
zombies surrounding her in the Paradise Plaza waterway because I mixed up some
Nectar and grabbed a Queen real quick before I ran down to help her.
WINE + COOKING OIL = RANDOMIZER
WINE + ROTTEN PIZZA = RANDOMIZER
WINE + SPOILED MEAT = RANDOMIZER
WINE + RANDOMIZER = RANDOMIZER
WINE + ANYTHING ELSE (LITERALLY) = QUICKSTEP
I've heard a few people say "Wine + Anything = Quickstep". While they
aren't completely right, for almost all intents and purposes they might as
well be. Except for those four combinations listed, adding some Wine to the
mix will give you some Quickstep. Since the Food Court is littered with the
stuff you should have no problems if you need to make some on that end of the
mall.
BAGUETTE + CORN = ZOMBAIT
BAGUETTE + GOLDEN BROWN PIZZA = ZOMBAIT
CONDIMENT + CORN = ZOMBAIT
CORN + CORN = ZOMBAIT
CORN + GOLDEN BROWN PIZZA = ZOMBAIT
GOLDEN BROWN PIZZA + UNCOOKED PIZZA = ZOMBAIT
UNCOOKED PIZZA + YOGURT = ZOMBAIT
The few times you seem to need Zombait are usually when you're trying
to make it through Al Fresca Plaza or Wonderland Plaza. The Food Court has
everything you need and then some to make a batch. Mix up some Zombait and
lead the hordes of zombies away from your survivors.
CABBAGE + PIE = ZOMBAIT
COFFEE CREAMER + PIE = ZOMBAIT
FROZEN VEGETABLES + PIE = ZOMBAIT
SNACK + PIE = ZOMBAIT
THAWED VEGETABLES + PIE = ZOMBAIT
If, for some reason, you need to mix up some Zombait on your way
through Paradise Plaza, the above mixes should help. Snacks can be found in
the fountain in Paradise Plaza, Coffee Creamer appears during Day 1 in the
Security Room, Pie is, of course, in infinite supply at Colombian
Roastmasters, and the rest can be found semi-reliably in Cardboard Boxes on
the way from the Security Room to Paradise Plaza.
MILK + COFFEE CREAMER = QUICKSTEP
YOGURT + MILK = QUICKSTEP
...
<DAIRY PRODUCT> + <DAIRY PRODUCT> = QUICKSTEP (generally)
Another generalization, I know, but I've not seen it proven wrong yet.
If the ingredients you are mixing together at one point came out of a cow (or
are at least attempting to pretend they came out of cow, e.g. Coffee Creamer)
then mixing them together should give you Quickstep.
//==========================================================================//
// List of Mixes by Ingredient //
//==========================================================================//
Here it is, the comprehensive list of all 990 possible ingredient
combinations. Well, almost. As I said, there are 990, and most of them are
combinations you would never try or even have the opportunity to try in a
normal play-through. As I continue to try out combinations I will update the
list; by simple convenience this will be approximately by order of, well,
convenience. The less likely you are to be in a position to mix two items,
the longer it will take for that mix to appear in this list.
For the sake of thoroughness I've included mixes I've heard from other
sources, namely forum posts on GameFAQs/Gamespot. The mixes I have not been
able to verify myself will have a question mark (?) after them.
Many of the ingredients can only be found occasionally or in certain
semi-remote locations. Every ingredient, save for Pie, can be found in Seon's
in the North Plaza; however, if you have your heart set on making a certain
type of Juice first make sure there isn't another mix using ingredients you
have in your current location. You should also check to make sure that you
can't make the Juice by mixing ANOTHER Juice with some ingredient, or even by
mixing two Juices together.
Not every ingredient you use will show up as a food item. Many of the
ingredients are actually weapons, albeit weapons of questionable usefulness.
These are: Baking Ingredients, Canned Food, Canned Sauce, Condiment, Cooking
Oil, and Pet Food.
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------//
// Apple //
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------//
Apples are most commonly found in the early parts of the game in the
Security Room. Several also appear in Sir Book-A-Lot's in Wonderland Plaza
when/if you go to escort the Japanese Tourists. Later in the game these are
somewhat scarce.

Dog Food? Cat Food? Perhaps Seon's has found some magical dried food
source which both cats and dogs appreciate. It's almost an exact copy of

quite as convenient as Orange Juice. You can find Pies in both Colombian
Roastmasters locations on the counters, but what you may not know is that if
you break the display case facing outward in either Colombian Roastmasters
location you will have access to an infinite supply of them! It's not right
next to the Blender like the OJ is, true, but it's not very far away either.
Pie is the only food item which does not appear in Seon's in the North Plaza.

This item brings about flashbacks of my days in the dorms, of the time
when I ordered a Shrimp and Onion pizza at 2am, then somehow buried it under a
pile of dirty laundry and forgot about it. For three weeks.
Yeah. Ew.
Frank is not a refridgerator, and as such certain items melt or go bad
after he's been carrying them for too long. Uncooked Pizza is one of them.
It takes a good long time for it to go bad, somewhere around 15 minutes, but
when it does there's really not much point to keeping it around. Rotten Pizza
will heal one health bar, but it'll make Frank grab his gut and sway in a most
unhappy manner for a while, all the time completely vulnerable to zombie head
biteyness. If you pull out what you thought was an Uncooked Pizza and hear a
fly buzzing about you may want to throw it in a Blender instead. Or you could
chuck it at a zombie, your call.

somehow got wrong, please email me or contact me through Gamespot/GameFAQs and
let me know.
