I. Introduction
Hello and welcome to my GTA IV Walkthrough and FAQ.
R* finally gives us the next generation of Grand Theft Auto, this time on both
the Xbox 360 and PS3.
A. About This Guide
This will be (at least trying to be) a complete GTA IV walkthrough.
It will hopefully have mostly everything about the game like secret places,
where to find stuff, how to complete missions and so on.
I will not mark spoilers with spoilers, so I can anytime drop some story
bomb. If you don't like it, play the game without this guide.
B. What I Want (And Don't Want)
Here is what I want: I want NOTHING until the guide is up to 1.0. After
that, it would be nice with corrections of things I have wrong, and things
I have missed. And PLEASE have something with GTAIV in the subject or else
I can miss it.
What I don't want: Questions about things that already are in this guide,
spam or viruses.

III. About the game
What does the American dream mean today?
For Niko Bellic fresh off the boat from Europe, it is the hope he can escape
his past. For his cousin, Roman, it is the vision that together they can find
fortune in Liberty City, gateway to the land of opportunity.
As they slip into debt and get dragged into a criminal underworld by a series
of shysters, thieves and sociopaths, they discover that reality is very
different from the dream in a city that worships money and status, and is
heaven for those who have them and a living nightmare for those who don't...
Rockstar North is back with a new Grand Theft Auto game. Liberty City is once
again rebuilt from scratch, this time with a more realistic touch.
So what's different from earlier games? And what makes it worth buying this
game?
First of all, it's a totally new game engine called RAGE (Rockstar Advanced
Game Engine). R* used the RenderWare engine (created by Criterion Software)
in earlier GTA games. In 2004, EA acquired Criterion Games and Criterion
Software. R* chose not to license the RenderWare engine due to concern over the
information gathering clause in EA's license agreement. Or so the story goes.
The result was that R* created their own game engine that was first used in
Rockstar Games presents Table Tennis.
We have a new controller system. It's never been easier to control your GTA
character. The vehicles acts different from earlier games so you need to
relearn how to drive in order to truly master the game.
More radio stations than ever. And if you don't like the music, just hit your
Xbox Guide button and play your own music.
The police chases are more realistic. When you are hunted, you have a red ring
on your minimap where the cops are searching for you. If they see you, you are
placed in the middle of the circle. To get away, you have to either hit a good
old Pay & Spray or getting away from the ring. The more stars you have, the
bigger ring and more vehicles are searching for you.
Less loadings. You can enter and leave buildings without any loadings this
time. You can play most of the game without getting any loading screens at all.
You can get them if you fail at the game however, but that's your own fault ;)
Mobile phone. You have a mobile phone that you can use to call your friends.
Or call 911 to make them send out some cops. Later you will get a better phone
that allows you to take, send and receive photos as well.
GPS. You are never lost with a GPS in your car. Just tell where you will go and
you will get help with how to get there.
Autosaves. Your game is not autosaved after each mission. You can still save
normally in your hideout.
And much much more.

IV. Controllers
We can choose between two different types of controller configurations. The
first one is called Standard and the second is called Classic.
In the Options menu, we can also turn Vibrations On/Off, turn Auto Aiming
On/Off, change Inverted Look On/Off, change the Sniper Aim from the Right Stick
to the Left Stick and we can change the Aim Sensitivity between Low, Medium and
High.
For Free Aim / Target Lock On, you have to press the button halfway in to get
Free Aim and pressing it fullway in to get Target Lock.

V. TV
You can watch TV in your safehouses. Walk to the TV and you will see that the
game asks you to press LB to watch TV. Then you can change the volume, change
the channel, change the camera...
If you can read, it's no problems.
Basically it exist two different TV channels that you skip between. If you keep
skipping, they will jump in the TV schedule as well. Together it's almost 95
minutes of watchable TV.

VI. Tips & Tricks
A few tips to help you survive in Liberty City.
Take care of your health
Alway s take a look at your health. The less you have, the bigger chance you
have to die. If you know that the next mission will have people shooting at
you, make sure that you eat something before you do the mission. Restaurants,
hot dog vendors, it exist many ways to regain lost health. And keep it up
between the missions as well, who knows what will happen when you freeroam
around...
Remember that if you eat while out on a date, you will refill your health.
Use armor
The body armor doubles your chances of surviving against enemy forces. It
cost money, but it's worth it compared to what you have to pay the cops or
the hospital bills when you die. Buy it from underground gunstores, get it
cheaper from Little Jacob or find it free in some hidden places.
Stealing cars
Take a look around you before you steal a parked car. If some cops are close,
wait until they leave. Unless you want their attention. It may be fun getting
them chasing you, but sometimes you just want to drive around without some
cops hunting you.
Same thing with manned cars. Unless you need a car really fast, wait until
the police is away to keep running to another street. Some drivers will try
to take back their vehicles so be sure that you can drive away fast. It's not
a good idea to try stealing a car that's stuck in a traffic jam. If you are
holding a weapon while stealing a car, it's a smaller chance that the driver
will try to take back the vehicle.
Weapons weapons weapons
It is always a good idea to have some type of weapons. You never know when
you need one, either in a mission or if you want to kill some random ped.
The fastest way to get some is to buy them from a underground gunstore.
Or buy most of them cheaper from Little Jacob. Sometimes you can get weapons
when you kill peds or enemies. And you get 5 shotgun shells when you enter a
policecar. Or search for hidden stashes all over the city.
Explore the city
Explore the city. You will find some nice hiding places. Or sniping places.
Or hidden gun/bodyarmor stashes. Or see something happening. Or learn the
fastest way from point A to point B. Or secret packages.
Save your game
ALWAYS go to your safehouse and save before you turn off your system. Even
if you have autosave enabled.
It exist 12 ordinary savefiles and one autosave file. The autosave file is
used for all players. So if you played 20 missions and only used autosave and
your brother starts to play the game... Opsie, autosave after the first
mission, your lost for being stupid and not saved on a real save slot.
Keep your friends close
You will meet different friends and girlfriends while playing the game. Most
of them will give you some kind of reward if you keep their friendlevel high
enough. Like free taxi rides. Or cheaper weapons. Or...
You can always call them on your phone and go out on a date with them. If
you stay away too long from them, their friendlevel will drop and they will
call you. If you know that you really don't have time with them, don't say no
to a date. Say yes and call them back and cancel the date. Your friendlevel
will not drop this way. If you say no or miss the date, it will go down
however.
Play minigames
Take a break from the game and play minigames from time to time. Take your
dates out and play minigames. Or play the puzzle arcade game called QUB3D.
Take the taxi
The fastest way from point A to point B is to take the taxi. Unless it's a
really short way. Either call Roman for a free ride or take a yellow one.
You can put a mark on your map anywhere an the map and the taxi will take you
there. Or close to it. And if you press the A button, it will just take a
moment. It will cost some more, but it's worth it.
The cops are your friends... and your enemy...
The police will try to arrest you if they see you doing something bad. And
they will try to help you if they see somebody attack you. You can always
call the cops with your phone with the number 911. Or if you are in a
policecar, you can access the police computer to call for backup. Just be
sure to not shoot while they are coming...
Cash
Getting cash is easy. Do missions, do sidejobs for Roman or Little Jacob,
kill random peds and steal their cash, wait at a ATM machine for some random
ped to take out cash before killing them...
Food, clothes, guns, bodyarmor, it always exist something to waste your cash
on. Always keep some cash in case you need some.
Busted or killed?
If the cops takes you, you will loose some cash and your weapons. Or you are
killed, you will loose some money and keep your guns. It's your choice if
you want to search for new weapons all the time...

First Safehouse
Off the boat Achievement
Niko is finally in Liberty City. His cousin Roman comes to give him a lift.
Roman is so happy that Niko finally is there so he is drunk. Which results in
that you have to drive home. Follow the GPS, read how to drive and you will get
there pretty fast. Listen to Roman talking about boobs and walk into the
safehouse. Discover that the American dream that Roman had wrote about was
nothing more than a dream. You will now learn how to save your game and how to
save vehicles. Mission done.

Required: The Cousins Bellic

Roman as a phone contact
You will learn that Roman owes Vlad a lot of money. And that he is in love with
his secretary Mallorie. So instead of paying back som money to Vlad, he wants
you to drive him to a hardware store. Which happen to be a front of some
gambling. Follow the GPS and you will soon be there.
He wants you to look out for some loan sharks that may want some money back.
After a while, you will see them. Call Roman on the phone and he will come
running out. Do NOT hurt the loan sharks in any way.
Follow the GPS and drive home.

Three's a Crowd
From: Roman
Required: It's Your Call
Reward: Free clothes
Michelle as a phone contact and girlfriend
Roman is having trouble with some loan sharks in his office. Niko helps him out
and Roman's telephone calls. Mallory and her friend Michelle needs some lift so
Roman sends out Niko to drive them. Follow the GPS and you will soon get there.
Mallory introduce Michelle with Niko. Drive them to Michelle's apartment and
Mallory decides that they should date eachothers. Niko talks to Roman on the
phone and decides that Niko should buy some new clothes. A clothing store
flashes on the screen so follow your GPS once again.
The first piece of cloth is free, so pick anything you want.

VIII. Achievements
GTAIV have 50 Achievements worth 1000 Microsoft Points.
I will list the name, how many points they are worth and the small description.
After that, I will write shortly how to get it because I will get tons of mails
from people that can't read the description...
Off the Boat (5)
Complete the first mission.
Start the game. Get into the car. Follow the GPS. Done.
One Hundred and Eighty (10)
In a darts game score 180 with 3 darts.
Start a Dart game. Hit the 20x3 points with 3 darts in a row.
Pool Shark (10)
Beat a friend at pool.
Start a Pool game with a ingame friend. Win.
King of QUB3D (15)
Beat the High Score in QUB3D.
Play QUB3D. Beat the highscore.
Finish Him (15)
Complete 10 melee counters in 4 minutes.
Fight. Do 10 melee counters in 4 minutes. You can hit around two counters
on each ped. The invisible time will continue even if you die, so keep
countering.
Genetically Superior (25)
Come first in 20 singleplayer street races.
Do 20 singleplayer street racers. Win them all. You gain these from Brucie.
Wheelie Rider (30)
Do a wheelie lasting at least 500 feet on a motorbike.
Drive a motorbike. Pull your Right Stick down. Hold it up for 500 feet or
longer.
Gobble Gobble (10)
Score 3 strikes in a row, a turkey, in 10-pin bowling.
Play Bowling. Do 3 strikes in a row. Train much.
Driving Mr. Bellic (10)
Unlock the special ability of taxi.
Raise your friendlevel with Roman Bellic high enough.
Rolled Over (30)
Do 5 car rolls in a row from one crash.
Drive a car. Crash. Make it roll 5 times in a row. Pray a lot.
Keep trying. Try to find some kind of place where you can jump with your
car and hope that it will work.
Walk Free (50)
Lose a 4 star wanted rating by outrunning the cops.
Get a 4 stars wanted level. Drive a vehicle until you are close to the
police radius. Be sure no cops are close, get out of your vehicle and walk
out of the radius. Wait until they have lost you.
It seems that you can "cheat" to get this achievement at the moment. You
can drive out from the search area and get out from your vehicle and still
get it. I got it when I exited a vehicle at the exact same time as when the
police stopped searching for you.
Courier Service (10)
Complete all 10 package delivery jobs.
Do the Package Delivery job for Little Jacob once your friend level with
him is high enough.
Retail Therapy (10)
Unlock the special ability of buying guns from a friend.
Raise your friendlevel with Little Jacob high enough.
Chain Reaction (20)
You must blow up 10 vehicles in 10 seconds.
Make 10 vehicles blow up in 10 seconds. Place 10++ vehicles close to
eachothers, attack with explosives.
One Man Army (40)
Survive 5 minutes on 6 star wanted level.
Get a 6 star wanted level. Keep it for 5 minutes and survive.
Lowest Point (5)
Complete mission "Roman's Sorrow".
Keep playing the story missions. Complete "Roman's Sorrow".
Order Fulfilled (10)
Complete all 10 Exotic Export orders.
Do 10 Exotic Export Orders. You get these from Bruce that sends emails to
you. When one vehicle is done, go back online and check your mail for
another one.
Manhunt (15)
Complete the most wanted side missions from the police computer.
Get a policecar. Access the Most Wanted Side Missions from it. Do them.
Each of the 3 islands have 10 criminals that needs to be killed. Most of
them have a gang with them that will try to kill you. Some of them even
have rocket launchers...
If you can't access them, try later in the game.
Cleaned the Mean Streets (20)
Capture 20 criminals through the police computer.
Get a policecar. Access the "View Current Crimes" from it. Do 20 of them.
If you can't access them, try later in the game.

A: It does not exist. You have to hit your Xbox Guide button in order to play

A: They did'nt. It's you that failed. The vehicle physics are more realistic
in this game. Try driving 110 Mph in real life and make perfect handbrake

compensate by oversteering and other things.

A: The game have blood. It's just that it's not as much as earlier games.
It fits better in the more realistic world we have in GTAIV.

Drive over somebody or get hit by a car. Look where it got hit. Blood
stains on the vehicle.
11: Where are the paramedic and firefighter missions?
A: They got cut.
12: Which version should I get? Xbox 360 or PS3?
A: The difference between them are slightly. You need to install a part of
the game on the PS3, which you can't on the 360. It looks a little better
on a PS3 in my eyes, but it's no big deal. So look at your friends. How
many of them have GTAIV on which system. Then choose the one which have
most friends that will play online.
...yes, the Xbox 360 will get two exclusive DLC that are supposed to be
believed to add 10 hours++ gameplay each. But those are not released yet.
And future DLC can be made for both systems.
13: Do cheat make it impossible to get 100%?
A: No.
14: Do cheats disable achievements?
A: Some does. They will tell you which they disables.

A: It exist no planes. Only helicopters. You don't need a plane in one city.
33: Why does not the screen fit on my HDTV?
A: Because your TV overscans the picture. Try zooming out or look around in
your TV settings.
34: I can't find anything, how do I fix it?
A: Does it look like I know what kind of TV you have? Read the manual. Buy
a new TV.
35: How you get rid of weapons to get into the strip club?
A: Press left/right on your Dpad until you equip your fists.
36: Why did they attack me in the stripclub?

A: If it's something you have earned from a friend, raise their friendship

39: I was looking on the internet cafe and it said that they had new themes

A: You will get a better phone later, keep doing the story missions.
40: How do I use a Taxi? I can only steal it.
A: If you press LB when close to a Taxi, Nico will try to make it stop.
When close to a Taxi, HOLD the Y button. HOLD it and you will enter the
taxi.
41: I can only find 199 pigeon, where is the last one?
A: I'll use my 1337 interweb powers to locate the last one for you.
