Streets of Rage 2 FAQ/Walkthrough For Sega Genesis Version 1.1 Written by Chris Nash October 1999 Hello and welcome to my first FAQ, and my first UPDATE of it! My topic this time is the Genesis classic, Streets of Rage 2. Conventions in this document: -------------------------------------------- When I write character names such as Galsia for example, this indicates all the enemies that look like the original Galsia but have different names and clothing as well. New this version: ------------------------ Added new hidden code that allows both players in a 2-player game to choose the same character. Added info on hidden lives, submitted by Tyler Gold, Westin Deats, Patrick Unson and Melzo McPhun. Repaginated the document. Added copyright info. Basic Overview of the game: ----------------------------------------- Sequel to the original, Streets of Rage 2 puts you on the...um....Streets of Rage, where the mysterious Mr. X has kidnapped your pal Adam and let loose his minions to terrorise the population. Four people - two of which are Axel and Blaze, heroes of the original game, plus Max, a wrestler and Skate, Adam's kid brother, stand in their way. Choose one of these characters and clean up eight locations then do battle with Mr. X himself. Sounds impossible, don't it? The Good Guys - Character Profiles: ---------------------------------------------------- Max: Extremely powerful (but very slow) wrestler, Max's special move is like getting hit by a truck. Hint: Get behind any scumbag, grab onto them, jump and attack before you touch the ground and see what happens. Rating:3 Axel: Run-of-the-mill fighter, Axel is semi-fast and quite powerful. Jumping is his speciality. Rating:4 Blaze: Quite possibly the best of the bunch, Blaze is well rounded (in more ways than one!!), a fast attacker, a powerful jumper and very quick on her feet. Rating:1 Skate: The fastest fighter, but not too powerful, Skate is good when you need to make a fast getaway. Hint: Grab onto anyone from behind and attack. Rating:2 Level and Baddie Guides. ------------------------------------- Level 1: Standard conventional 'easy first level' stage, this was designed to get you into the swing of things. Clear the street, trash the local bar then face off to the amazingly muscular bartender. New baddies encountered: Galsia: Extremely pathetic local yob, can be despatched very easily. A couple of hits should suffice. Donovan: Traditional skinhead, but a bit more powerful than Galsia. Watch out when you're trying to flying kick him as he will try to uppercut you. Y or R-Signal: Yellow-coated long haired geek, don't get too close or he'll throw you. Jack: Knife-throwing maniac who seems to have about a thousand knives in his jacket. Beware. Electra: Lady with electric whip and powerful kick, treat with caution. Barbon: Malicious bartender. Will kick, throw or punch to get you out of his yard. Hint: At the start of the level, head to the bottom left hand corner and press B for an extra life. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- Level 2: Slightly harder than Level 1. Avoid the bikers on the bridge, clean out a truck then battle with a flying foe. New baddies encountered: The Weather Conditions Bike Gang: These guys have names like Calm, Storm etc. and are of varying strengh. Knock 'em off their bikes if you can. Karate Ninjas: Strong, but not too smart. Watch out for their flying kicks and punches. Jet: High-flying boss that can perform three moves only: Punch, Kick and Takedown. The latter is one to be avoided. Also: Galsia, Y and R-Signal, Donovan and variations of them return. Hint: After you finish the truck, head up to the top-left corner of the screen and press B for an extra life. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- Level 3: In the amusement park, wake up sleeping Donovan and Galsia, then kill them. Smash arcade machines (notice that they are Bare Knuckle, the original version of Streets of Rage?), invade the Pirate Ship (check out the free life up on deck) and enter the Aliens ride, where you'll meet two mysterious challengers.... New baddies encountered: Sword/Knife Ninjas: Tricky to grab hold of or do flying kicks on, watch out for their Shinobi- esque death stars. Vehelis: Mechanical menace, zooms about trying to knock you to the ground. Flying kick is the most effective move on this guy. Claw Guy: Powerful villain with razor-sharp claws. Try and pick him up wherever possible, but make sure he doesn't do the same to you. Also: The regular crowd return (Galsia, Donovan e.t.c) plus Electra and Jack's brother and sister. Notes: Watch the pods in the Aliens ride, they explode if you hit them. After you defeat Vehelis, search the bushes on the bottom of the screen for a 1- up. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- Level 4: A typical, normal ball park...except it's populated by hordes of Galsias. Take the lift down to the basement and find out who's controlling this area. New baddies encountered: Big Ben: Anyone who's played the original Streets of Rage should recognise this guy. He's a lot less tougher than the original, though. Look out for flame attacks. Abadede: Another remnant from the original, he can to much more than punch this time. Don't get engaged in a Flurry attack (rapid presses of the B button) or disastrous consequences will follow. Also: The regulars plus some ninjas. (Is it just me or did the game programmers run out of small, easily disposable enemies that they hadn't used before at this point?) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- Level 5: Inside the ship, watch out for Wayne (another variation on Barbon) and his kickboxing friends. Up on deck, see off another form of Jet and destroy the boxer awaiting you... New baddies encountered: Kickboxing Birds: All of these share their names with birds. Dodge their kicks if you can. R. Bear: Big 'n beefy dungaree wearing bald guy, and about the only character who can get out of being held by you. Unfortunately, the only way to get out of his hold is to use your special move. Dangerous and deadly. Also: Regular crowd plus ninjas and various other old bosses. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------- Level 6: On the beach and in the jungle, take down ninjas, bikers, fat guys, whip-ladies and extremely agile claw-swinging dudes. No new baddies encountered on this level (told ya they'd run out of ideas!). One final point of advice: when you get to the boss, don't bother with Jet; just take care of the claw guy and they'll both fall down. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------ Level 7: You're inside a huge factory. Kill the regulars and some clanking metallic enemies. New baddies encountered: Molecule and Particle: Robots who have lasers and maces. Destroy them and they'll explode, so watch out. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------ Level 8: This is the final level, and it features every boss and character that you have fought so far, except: Shiva: Mr. X's bodyguard who is strangely more powerful than Mr. X himself. Flying kicks seem to work best on him, but don't under any circumstances try to pick hm up. You'll regret it.... Mr. X: Finally, you get to meet the big boss. Like last time, he has a machine gun, and he can hit his own people with it, so when he fires, get out of the way and watch him anhilate his own men! For best effect, have Max get behind him, grab onto him, jump and press Attack for that final winning move. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- The ending sequence: ------------------------------- I'm not going to spoil it for you. Complete the game and watch it yourself. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- Tips and Tricks: ----------------------- Hidden options: If you complete the game on Hardest mode, you'll get to see a hidden code that goes like this: On the game select screen (with 1 Player, 2 Player, Duel and Options) hold A+B together on the 2 Player control pad and have Player 1 go to Options with his control pad. If you've done it right, you'll see the options screen with some new options: Difficulty now has two extra settings: Very Easy and Mania. Players can now go up to 9. Level Select lets you select your starting level. Play as Same Character - PAL version On the title screen, push Right + B on Controller One and Left + A on Controller Two. Then with everything held down press C on Controller Two. Now just select two players and both players can pick the same character. Unfortunately, they will both be the same color, so it can be confusing. Note: This code only works on the PAL version of Streets of Rage 2.
