Answer

Gabriel is only the second strongest boss in SG (you should face the Etheral Queen and see). Well, you should need at least a team lv100 to be able to face him. He mostly use magic, you can use Prundentice tune (Capell's flute) to disable all magic (it wont hurt you), and run around with the healer, let the other 2 battle. When I faced him, my party was around lv 120, they are Capell, Edward,Eugene, and Sigmund. I already obtained Alzured Blaze (the strongest sword for Capell - which will get you an achievement as well). I used Grind Valestine all the way to take him down fast. When he begins to use lightning skill which attacks everyone in the area, use Prundentice tune to avoid it, and keep on attacking him with Grind Valestine and smash Y for party healing or ressurrection. I was able to defeat him from 6 - 10 min (don't remember the time, but it should be very easy when you know how to fight him). Good luck!

Answer

80 is definately not enough :/ Go to the mines or something and get lvl 90-95 at the least. Deck yourself out with the strongest weapons you can get. My strategy was simple. As soon as you get in there Use reginleif then Grinn Valesti, This is the most damaging combo ive seen. I was doing 25-35k Regin leif and 20-25k Grinn Valesti's. Of course you wont always hit him as he teleports alot. If you're on normal he has around 1m hp. I took him down in 3-4 minutes. The biggest moves to watch out for are Critical Flare and Noble Play. As soon as he casts either just run away from him as they deal high damage but nothing overwhelming. Smash that Y button throughout this fight and just keep whacking. He'll fall eventually. My team was Capell, Edward, Balbagan, and Eugene. The prize for defeating Gabriel is i believe ''genesis'', a spell book for michelle( i think ).

If you can't beat a boss in this game, just follow the rule of thumb (works for all RPGs). Level up. Level up more until you can beat that boss. A little fun fact for you, the boss isn't from Star Ocean. It's a boss that Tri-Ace throws into their games and Star Ocean just happens to be one of them. =P And yea, Star Ocean is amazing, I need to get the next one. It looks amazing.

I am about to fight him, myself. Literally after I get done posting this. Thanks for the tips, even though I didn't start this one. My team is Capell (lvl 115), Sigmund(lvl 90), Komachi (Lvl 109), and Eugene (lvl 100). I have been doing great thus far. I just want to make sure my team is ready, so I've been farming the enemies right outside of the area where you fight Gabriel Celeste. I have thought about making the trek back to Kolton so I can make more weapons and save, but the last thing I want to do is make that tremendous trek back through the dungeon. I will let you know how it all goes.

Answer

Alrighty, so I managed to beat him just fine with that team. My ass made a fist throughout most of the match because I had so many levels riding on it. Anyway, I just spammed Grinn Valesti over and over, using it on the black balls that appeared as well. You don't want to let those black balls stay around. If you do, and he casts a death spell on you, you're screwed, because those balls are like detonators for it, likely killing not only you, but everyone around you. Anyway, watch out for the area of effect lightning attack of his. It hurts... a lot. He never got a chance to use his earth based attacks on me, but my party managed to stay alive just fine amongst his other attacks, except for when everyone got caught in a lightning attack. Eugene managed to survive, barely, and he revived everyone. Unless Gabriel Celeste is teleporting randomly, he seems to move slowly.

Unlike the Star Ocean games, there is no opening scene where he challenges you... Odd. But yeah, AbysmalNight, you DEFINENTLY want to get the new Star Ocean: TLH. I was addicted to that game for a WHILE. I never did finish the wandering dungeon bonus in that game, but I did manage to beat the other bonus dungeon, Cave of the Seven Stars. That's where you fight Gabriel in that one.
