What is the significance of the eye?

In the long hallway it looks at you and floats around outside the window, right after the clocktower moving towards the outer wall

As far as in game significance, I can think of none. The eye is there for scenery.

Peeping Eyes are pretty common enemies in the gba and ds castlevanias.
