What are the point of Rare Monsters?

After running through a few areas mutliple times, I have run into and defeated a few Rare Monsters. The stat upgrades they gave were pitiful at best, not even comparing to the stats from what the game considers "Weaker Opponents". Also, they gave me no items..... What exactly are these Rare Monsters for, are they just there to give you a hard time? I'm not talking about the major monsters like Dominator or the ones for the achievements, just ones like the rare beetle you run into in Blackdale Map 2.

MasterBasch, yes, i played FFXII, and I often got rare items off the rare monsters, but in this, Ive killed a few and didnt get any items at all

If you capture a rare monster, they usually sell for a ton of cash. Also, the guild has quests for defeating a few of them.

Have u ever played Final Fantasy 12? if so then u will know there are rare monsters on that too, they are similar to the rare monsters on this game, they show no real purpose, just rare to find and more powerful than the other monsters in that area and they drop considerably rarer items. so its nice to find one.
