Prey
Review by luburulz
"Quite immersing, though lacking."
Prey was a game that many people viewed to be a sort of "Halo killer" (almost any FPS that comes out nowadays is put up against it as a measuring stick). The game was suppose to bring in a great story for the single player mode and some of the better multiplayer available. Well...they got it half right.
Graphics: 9/10
The graphics in this game just blow you away. It's a bit gory and disgusting (body parts and guts everywhere :D) but if you have played Doom or Quake you know what you're in for. The weapons are all supposedly "living" and you noticed that as you run around that the guns have constant movement from some sort of part on it. The enemies all look very detailed and everything looks very well put together and rivals that of Oblivion in graphical terms.
Gameplay: Single Player: 9/10 Multiplayer: 3/10
Now we got the the area that holds this game back. But first, let me tell you the single player campaign is very good. The story behind it is very well thought out and written and has a ton of little twists and turns that makes the game somewhat un predicting at times. This is the immersing part of the game...
...and the lacking part, is the multiplayer. Ouch...I don't know what to say. Online has a ton of disconnects and lags quite often. Granted, when you get in a good game, it's quite fun. But most of the time, you won't. Think Perfect Dark Zero at the beginning of its release. It should get better, eventually. But, it really seems poorly put together right now.
Finally, I must say this game was a pleasure to play. The single player is one of the best I've played in a very, very long time. I have enjoyed every moment of it that I have done (still got a bit to go). But, this one is a bit of a stinker online. If they somehow get all the issues on it fixed, this is easily a 9/10 title. But for now, it'll hold a solid 7, and the only drawback is on Live.
