"It got a really bad rap."

Okay, most reviews for Ninety Nine Nights have been in the low score area. Everyone complains and thinks "OMG THIS GAME SUX LOL" since the Gamespot review rated it rather low. If you come into this game expecting something groundbreaking and new, of course you'll probably be disappointed. The game does exactly what it's suppose to do, and looks good doing it. That is about all there is, it's not going to floor you with awesome gameplay, an immersing title, or amazing characters. It is what it is, and that's all.

Graphics: 8/10
The game looks very, very good. I don't know see how anyone could complain about this part. Hundreds of soldiers at once with various characters doing all sorts of crazy combos, it really looks nice. All of the weapons look different and the characters are all different. It's solid for a next-gen title, and above average of any other game of this genre.

Gameplay: 6/10
The gameplay is a beat 'em up. That's it. You press only two buttons to do two different attacks (X and Y, B is a special charge attack, and A is jump). It has for the most part, the same attack setup as Dynasty Warriors. You don't get any sort of horse or any other transportation, you run (it's not as slow as some would make you think, either). If you were expecting anymore than a solid, above average game, again, you'll be disappointed.

A lot of the first previews for this game made it seem as though this would be a triple-A title. It seemed like this would be a rival to the Dynasty Warriors series. I will say I enjoy this game quite a lot, and I've played all of the Dynasty Warriors titles to completion. If you come into this game and experience with an open mind and your expectations under control, you'll enjoy Ninety Nine Nights. It's rather short and not overly challenging, but it's solid. Hopefully the developers can build off of this and make that "gamebreaking" game Ninety Nine Nights 2.
