Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Review by BoneSmasher20
"Comic Geeks and Non-Comic Geeks alike will enjoy this game."
Marvel Ultimate Alliance is one of the better superhero games to hit this decade. As a Marvel Comics fan, I can honestly say this game made my jaw drop. This game nails the target in nearly every area.
Let's cut to the chase now, shall we?
Gameplay: 8/10
Mystical hammers, flying shields, clawed killing machines, plasma beams, sword slashes, spindling web, ground-smashing, cosmic surfers, OHHHH MY!!!! This can sum up most of the gameplay involved in the MUA. Forget World of Warcraft, here's a game that can REALLY suck you in.
Story: 9/10
The story is riveting and very in detail/depth. It's all about Dr. Doom, and his supervillain group known as The Masters of Evil. They plan on world domination, and even go to the lengths of attempting to steal the powerful Odin's power (Odin is a VERY mighty god in Norse mythology) All in all, this story keeps you on the edge of your Laz-E-Boy chair while your eyes are glued onto the screen, wondering what happens next. Even a non comicbook fan can get into the story.
Graphics: 10/10
WHOA! It's not completely cel shaded or cartoony, yet it still looks A-W-E-S-O-M-E!! I dare you to prove me wrong on this one. Head to Asgard and look at the environment. Stop to watch the cut scenes, and see how advanced these graphics are. The graphics is what REALLY brings this game alive.
Sound: 7/10
The sound is quite good, but the dialogue? Bah, too cheesy. It's mostly the same corny stuff that most superheroes say. IE: "Blah blah blah you wont get away with this blah blah blah the power of good triumphs over evil blah blah blah oh goody we saved the day!" Voice acting is outstanding, the only character that doesn't have a voice that fits is Galactus. All the other characters have voices that describe thier uniqueness. Again, the music and voice acting rocks, but the dialogue could've used some improvement.
The Verdict: Buy
Well worth the $60. Renting the game won't give you enough time to get the full experience. You may beat the game, but there is so much more to this game then just beating it. Nope, buying the game allows you to conquer it, to get everything out of this game. Spending that 60 bucks can lead to nearly a month's worth of play...The replay value is just too high to rent.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance is simply one of the better super hero games to come out this past decade. Even if you're just one of those guys that hates comics/fantasy, you'll still have a good time playing MUA, and could even possibly change your mind about comics.
One word to describe this game? Dare I say it....?
EXCELSIOR!!!!
