"Good game with poor execution"

Great idea, poor execution

On a whim I rented "Bullet Witch" not really knowing what I was getting myself into. I found that it a a great poorly executed game:

Sound: Pretty lackluster, the gunfire is not as sharp or clean as other games. Also the voice acting of some characters are lacking. The music is fitting and does create a mood. There are some creepy sound effects that could potentially freak you out a bit.

Graphics: This is by far the most criticized aspect of this game. Some people claim PS2 last-gen graphics but I disagree. Most of the environment textures are decent and fitting for a post-apocalyptic world. The character textures are actually pretty good. Alicia is sleek and looks really good. The world is extremely destructible but much of the larger debris is very straight edged..and blocky. The issue I have with the graphics is the clipping. During some levels you are able to run through barrels, boxes and other random object. This kind of thing is just sloppy and should not be happening in a next-gen game. Overall, not "Gears of War" super graphics, but it is not PS2 type graphics.

Gameplay: As people say this is a run and gun shooter with magic mixed in. This is not a game that claimed to be anything but. It can get a bit monotonous at times..but the ability to get and upgrade new types of guns keeps things interesting. Along with the use of different spells. The spell wheel needs some time to get used to but once I figured it out I had no trouble casting jaw dropping "whoo hoo" spells. The game is challenging. I managed to die quite a few times. But this game is not meant to be a cake-walk. Gamer's get spoiled with easy games like GoW, Crackdown, etc. I find it fun and dying just meant I learned a lesson. The game is short..but it is meant to be replayed each time upping the difficulty.

Overall a fun run and gun shooter that you should pick up if you want a challenge with some nice eye candy and some jaw dropping moments. 7/10
