Aegis Wing

Review by wolverinefan

"One of the best titles on the Live Arcade"

Aegis Wing is a free Arcade title for the 360. Let me just say, if you don't have Live Gold then please don't bother downloading this game. It's all about the on-line play. The game was made by some Microsoft interns and Microsoft is giving it to gamers free for a month, is it worth the time to download or just a poor project? Read on!

I know the game has a plot since it's a little paragraph at the bottom of the loading screen but it doesn't matter. Blow up the enemy.

Graphic wise this game is kind of bland. The backgrounds are really boring on the eyes and they all kind of look alike. The ships are colorful and I like that they each have their own colored beam so you can see who's shooting.

The sound in the game is okay. Sound effects are average. No voice work. Music was alright as well.

The control in the game is silky smooth. Works wonders and maybe it's too smooth but it was close to perfection. It's even easy to join other ships.

If you've played a shoot'em up then you know how this plays. 6 levels of auto scrolling to the right. Blow up the enemies that appear and dodge craters.

It's pretty simple and the entire game runs on an exact enemy placement. The only time things change is when you cause a ship to chase you. Other wise they always appear in the same place and do the same things. This makes the game easier than it should and their patterns and stuff are a bit weak.

The levels are kind of interesting. The first has a boss. The second has no boss but it's much longer. Then it mixes it up with no enemies or a few bosses in a level.

The main idea is to play this game with other people. The on-line play is awesome. Up to four people and it's worth waiting for a fourth player. You can join with the other ships and one person will control the big ship mass while everyone else can shoot 360 degrees.

The game isn't the most impressive around but it's easily some of the most fun I've ever had on LIVE. It actually made Live Gold to be worth while. I actually played through the game three times on LIVE because it was so much fun. A mic isn't need as no one really seemed to talk during the game any way.
