Guitar Hero II
Review by nm14
"Guitar Hero II is really addictive!"
Whether it be single or multiplayer, Guitar Hero II is a game that will last. There is a large enough set list to keep you playing, including tons of bonus songs that you can buy from the store. In terms of Xbox live, you can always check your high scores in comparison with other people around the world. In general, it is a game that anyone can learn and enjoy, whether they have musical talent or not.
The guitar is essentially the same as the PS2 version, but with a slightly new model and color. There are five buttons, or frets, that can be played. Each note can be played by strumming the bar and holding the correct fret down at the same time. There are several difficulty levels, including Easy, Medium, Hard, and Expert. Each introduces a new element in Guitar Hero, whether it be pinky finger notes, faster notes, chords, or shifting. You really get the full experience as you climb your way up the scoreboard and begin playing like a pro. Whether this proves your talents on a real guitar is something I have yet to determine.
The graphics on this game are significantly improved from the PS2 version, not that graphics are a major element in this game. There are more characters, guitars, and finishes to choose from, as well as several new songs. The xbox 360 version is not significantly better than the PS2, but if you truly enjoy Guitar Hero, it would be worth the buy (or rent).
You will notice from the beginning of playing Guitar Hero until the end, how much your fingers have improved in flexibility and how well you concentrate on the notes. It's honestly amazing how fast you are able to catch on. Many of the songs found in Guitar Hero are older hits. You will find a few songs from the 90s, but nothing too recent. A lot of the bonus songs include heavy metal hits, which if that is your thing, is certainly worth a buy.
So in my opinion, this game has few flaws. It would be nice to see some newer music, but many of the hits are cool and are recognizable. After you master this game (which will take up plenty of time and effort), you will be yearning for the third make of this game, which is sure to break records in the video game industry.
