Lost Planet: Extreme Condition
Review by Tak36
"Lost Planet: Extremely Overrated"
Lost Planet, although a good game, is completely average. Once I bought this, I couldn't wait. The screenshots on the back made it seem as though it with be horrifying, creatures jumping at you from the dark! Sadly though, this game couldn't scare an infant.
Story: 4/10
You play Wayne Holden, a man who had his father murdered by some company named Nevec, who are trying to rid the planet of aliens called Akrid and make the planet nice and green so humans can live on it. They have a machine that will not only wipe out all Akrid, it will also kill all the humans on the planet, making it your mission to stop them. In your travels on this snowy planet, you join a group of Snow Pirates (Original) and go kill some Akrid aleins for no real reason. After a few missions, you finally start fighting Nevec. You also meet a guy that looks like every anime villain squashed together, an albino guy with long hair. Apparently, this is supposed to make him tough looking. You kill him, take back your Dad's VS (Some kind of robot) and kill the leader of Nevec. Sadly though, you use a chip to power up your VS that erases your memory, making for an extremely depressing ending.
Controls: 6/10
In the very first mission you play, they set you in a level, leaving you to find out the controls. After a few minutes though, they finally stop laughing at you accidently throwing grenades at your buddies and tell you. You go through a mission, and then you learn the extremely complicated controls for VSs. Capcom should have stopped advertising and started working on these horrible controls.
Gameplay: 6/10
After about one mission, the gameplay gets extremely repetitive. Shoot the orange spots, collect orange goo, repeat. Also, when using any other gun that's not a rifle, headshots don't really seem to matter. Not much else to say about it other then it sucks.
Graphics: 9/10
The graphics are amazing. Cutscenes are beautiful and the only thing they could do to make them better is to take out that annoying Rick kid with the horrible early 90's hair and very small voice box. Explosions are good, but they just don't mesh with the areas around them, making them look very fake. The Akrid are very detailed down to their tiny beady eyes.
Sound: 9/10
Explosions and gun fire sound perfect, voices are almost perfect (Rick) and you will always be turning a 360 to see a huge Akrid rolling towards you. Music is good, but can sometimes feel like it doesn't belong in that level.
Replay value:
I would rather destroy my X-Box then go through the main storyline again, but I have not tried the multiplayer yet, so I have yet to see how that is. After about 6 missions, the game starts to get extremely complicated and is hard to follow. Although the mission briefings say so many things to do, all you really need to do is shoot and follow arrows, making it a very mediocre game.
