Vampire Rain
Review by kingleg
"A Fun low-budged game for fans of SC and Vampire lore that keeps you glued to the end."
Believe it or not, I can't stop playing the game. A lot of people put it down for it's sixty dollar price tag, but I personally find the game a lot of fun. I'm up to level 9, and once you start using the uv knife (which should be unlimited though I might add.....), it really picks up.
And wow; so the controls copy splinter cell. Maybe I'm the only to say this, but since when is that a bad thing??
I personally like the, 'if you're seen, you're basically dead approach, but for the most part, you have enough ammo that the game gives you the opportunity to waste one vampire who's coming straight for your heart....
As for value, the game is surprisingly long; as are other FUN but budgety feeling games like Tenchu Z and EDF 2017.
As for graphics; I've never seen quite a mixed bag. The water is phenomenal. It looks downright awesome on the character models, and the safe, dry haven of the van makes it stand out even more.
The comments are also cool. It's particularly funny that the nightwalkers have human type conversations....but then you flip on necrovision and they're red nightwalkers....it kind of reminds me of the the movie "They Live," and in this case Necrovision is actually useful, since you do actually encounter the occasional human!
But lastly, sorry developers, but seriously, why in the name of sam hell is our main character named Lloyd!! Please!!! At least in Project Sylpheed, Square enix had the decency to kill of the character named Brandon in the first mission.
And lastly lastly, I tend to find the checkpoints fairly evenly spaced in this game, so you're not backtracking too much. It would definitely suck if you had to play a whole level over upon death....Gameplay is definitely fun, with your goals being clear cut from the outset by in-game cinemas.
Overall;
Graphics; 6.5/10 (very mixed bag; some stuff average, some stuff great)
Sound; 7/10 Very quiet game, but everything's fitting, and the voiceovers are decent
Gameplay; 8/10 Lacks that big budget feel, but like EDF, you find yourself just playing and playing!
Replayability; 3/10 probably won't replay it much, since you can't carry over weapons. Honestly though, it would have really made this game a LOT of fun if you could replay levels with acquired weapons....
overall; Not for the casual, non patient gamer, but the SC fan who happens to like vampire lore and science fiction, a fun game, and long enough to warrant buying!
