Wing Commander Arena

"Sub-par shooter"

I never played the Wing Commander series but I did see the horrible film starring Freddy Prince Jr. So imagine my excitement when I heard Wing Commander was coming to the 360. I would finally get to play the series! Alas it wasn't meant to be because we got some lame multi player title that's all about mindless shooting with brain dead ai and an Asteroids clone.

The game offers a number of modes to play. One that's a giant death match. Which is you vs all of the other fliers and you try to kill each other over and over.

Then we have Meteor Storm which has to guarding a satellite from asteroids and later it's asteroids and other pilots. And we have 2 other modes but I didn't both after the first two.

It isn't that the game is bad per say. It just lacks anything worth while. Sure the graphics are pretty good for an Arcade title but there is no originality to any of the stages.

Not only that but we get a nice generic sci-fi soundtrack and some of the most boring explosions I've heard in years.

To add insult to it all we get two sub weapons. One is a homing missile and the other is a three shot missile. I saw no other weapon options. But that's okay right, we get other fighters right? Sure and they are all the same.

The game can be fun over Xbox Live but the title is so dead you'll be lucky to ever find anyone. Hell, I don't think a single person on my friends list has the game.

What's the point of the game though? You just fly around and shoot stuff. it's a 2d title in a 3d space. By this I mean you can move all around an around but you never go up or down. And you just fly around shooting stuff. The enemy AI isn't too bright so you won't find much of a challenge playing solo.

In the end I'd have to give Wing Commander: Arena a low score. It's a very average game that doesn't really do anything different from all of the clones. Sure it could be fun on Live but no one plays it so why bother.
