Devil May Cry 4
Review by darkjak951
"Check it out, its got wings!!! ~Dante, mission 11"
Devil May Cry 3 was the greatest DMC in my opinion, and I had high hopes that 4 would make improvements. Unfortunantly I was only half right. However, that does not stop DMC4 from being a great DMC game.
Story: The beginning takes place in a church where a session of praying to the "Savior"(they could not say god I guess) was commencing. This is all ruined when Dante breaks in and murders the priest, or "His Holiness" as the people call him and all hell breaks loose from there. Now you must play as Nero, a youth with a possesed arm(devil bringer) that must hunt down Dante. But not everything is as it seems however, but I will not spoil anything.
Gameplay: The combat in DMC4 is hella fun. Both Nero and Dante have interesting techniques to bring to battle. Nero has the use of his Devil Bringer to smash enemies or kill them in a very awesome way. He can also grab enemies from far away as well making close combat easier. It also leads to some impressive combos also. Dante has all his styles from DMC3 but now you can switch each of them on the fly with the D-pad. He also has the greatest weapon in gaming history, but I won't spoil that neither. The environments for the most part are nice to look at but seem repetitive, lets find out why. You play as Nero for the first 11 missions and then you play as Dante for the next 7 missions and you go back to Nero for the last 2 missions. It seems like a nice Idea and it would be, if it was not an afterthought. Once you enter dante's missions, you will get a different combat options but you will have to go through the environments Nero went through backwards. This was not a good idea.
Sound: The music is pretty good, even if a few tracks are corny. But "corny" describes another part, dante. Dante just is not funny anymore and this is proven through corny 1 liners he spits out every second. Nero does it too, but not as often and most of his diologue is in-tact for the most part. Dante did give me some giggles(especially when he tried to act like he was on broadway in one of the missions which is still funny) but he is just starting to loose his funny. Everyone else sounds good though.
Overall: This is a good Devil May Cry game to add to the collection, just don't expect it to be better than the third one. Buy the Xbox 360 version if any, because the ps3 version needs a 20 minute download while the 360 has relitively short loading times. Play it, you won't be dissapointed
8.5/10 good job Capcom, keep it up!
