Left 4 Dead
Review by rabies_delight
"Zombie fans, this is it"
For all of us zombie freaks out there our time has arrived. Instead of killing hapless aliens, terrorist or other notable shooter enemies we get to slaughter our favorite nemesis online. This game blends all of your favorite movies with great cooperative team play.
Graphics 7/10
Lots of people have griped about the graphics of this game. Is it the greatest visual experience to hit the next gen consoles? However it really looks pretty good, and you can have scores of undead on the screen without so much as a bit of slowdown.
Sound 9/10
Creepy as all hell. The boss noise are unsettling and the cacophony of the horde is slightly less than maddening at times. If your not listening for the special infected you probably wont make it past easy.
Control 9/10
Controls are intuitive and simple. Shooting and jumping mechanism are smooth. Healing yourself or others is easy, but requires attention to your surroundings. This may not seem that much of a bit deal. But get surrounded by a horde with a smoker and a boomer in the mix and if you can react in an instant get ready to start back at the spawn site.
Gameplay 9/10
Apocalyptic landscapes. Countless infected. An extremely malicious A.I. that makes the game new each time. Add these up and you have one of the best games for the next gen consoles yet.
Mutli vs single.
This game is meant for multi player. If you want the true L4D experience you have to play online. Also its a good idea to find people to add to your friends list that you can trust not to leave you hanging. It cannot be stated enough that this game runs on team work. No one survives if you don't have it. Don't help your teammates and you die. If your teammates die, you will follow in a matter of minutes.
Overall score 9/10 This game is great. Lots of shooting. Great replay and variability. Wonderful use of the zombie/infected theme. The game is always intense. You can never stop looking and wondering were they will come from next. Other than the end of level safe rooms there is no safety place to stop for healing or reloading. Any possible moment is capable of turning into a game ending disaster. And Horrifically sadistic AI to keep it interesting. And finally a system that makes it nearly impossible to not use teamwork and strategical coordination. The only thing the game could use is slightly better melee attacks, but the unlimited pistol ammo makes up for this flaw.
