""Shut Up and Move Your Butt!""
After years of playing Crazy Taxi in the arcades, I finally broke down and bought it for the Dreamcast early in 2007. Boy, was I missing a lot. This is a super fun and well made game. Yes it is not groundbreaking or anything near that, however it is still a good game, as game play will tell you.
Game play: 9/10
You can get into this game instantly, another fantastic pick up and play game. The main concept is to drive around, and pick up fares. After you bring them to their destination, you receive money. The only thing is, there are no rules on how to get to your destination. You can jump over buildings, drive in the ocean, anything to get your fare to where they have to go. An added bonus is the Crazy Box mode, where you can unlock certain items, and have more fun! Erm, yeah. Story will be next.
Sadly, no story in this game, and really, there could be one, but I guess AM3 decided against it. Graphics will be next.
Great graphics in Crazy Taxi, everything is super detailed, from the vehicles/your cab, to the pedestrians/fares, to the surrounding area of San Francisco, everything looks just great. The menus look great too, as there is yellow everywhere in the game, a nice yellow. Sounds will be covered next.
Crazy Taxi has some of the best in-game sounds and in-game music of any Dreamcast game. With the sounds of the yelling pedestrians, to the sounds of the taxi and traffic, they are fantastic. What really causes this element to shine though is the music. Bad Religion, and the guys who have become synonymous with Crazy Taxi, the Offspring. Nothing but great stuff here, same with replay ability.
Replay ability: 8/10
This game will have you playing for a long time, its just one of those games. Also, the crazy box mode is very, very tricky, and completing it fully will prove a fairly difficult task. But that is alright, as you'll keep on playing, until you beat it.
Buy or rent?
This is a game to buy, nothing else.
There's a reason why this game is so popular; because its awesome, a game that exudes fun and simplicity, and with characters such as B.D. Joe and Gus, well, how can you go wrong? "It's Party Time! Let's Have Some Fun!"
