ECW Hardcore Revolution
Review by Payzmaykr
"Hardly worth the money....."
Giving this game a ''3'' is generous of me. As I said in the title of this review, it is hardly worth the money, but I guess if you are incredibly bored, it wouldn't be that bad of a frisbee.. just kidding. I always carefully research each game I buy, but it this case, it was sort of free. I purchased a Dreamcast on the internet and it came with this game. I put it in, because I am a wrestling fan, and I was totally disappointed. It had pretty bad graphics, about 10 moves, cheap intros, and wrestlers from the stone-age. In fact, the only person who I was familiar with was Rob Van Dam.
Graphics: 03/10
These graphics remind me a lot of cardboard cut-outs. In modern wrestling games, you can see muscles tightening when performing a move that requires a lot of power, but in ECW Hardcore Revolution, it was a different story..... the colors were not very great, but I have seen worse. As I say, it is not the graphics that make the game, it is the gameplay.
Gameplay: 02/10
I am not going to sugar-coat it... the gameplay downright sucked. The controls were undeniably bad. Instead of having buttons for things like countering, attacking, and rope moves, there were things like punch and pin, pretty much. For some reason, to make things worse, your opponent was always FAR superior. I played on easy mode, and it was far too hard. If the gameplay makes the game, then I almost wish it weren't in this one.
Sound: 05/10
The sounds, I suppose, weren't that bad. They by far exaggerated the noises. When somebody got punched, it sounds like you take a shotgun to a pumpkin. But to make it better, affects like the sounds of running were added. The sounds are just gravy to the game, they don't mean much to me, but they happened to make this one better.
Extras :N/A
Some extras were good. One was that you could create your own wrestlers. Good feature, I would say. You could make the wrestler into a person with masks, hoods, shirts, pants, shoes, belts, height, weight, everything. Then you added a move set to it and used it. Come to think of it, that seems like all the extras there were!
Overview
ECW Hardcore Revolution is not the worst, but it is certainly not the best. For the five dollars that it sells for now, it might even be worth it if you are a hardcore wrestling fan or an ECW maniac. However, I think it was a good thing that they made this game, because it sets a foundation for present and future wrestling games, seeing the mistakes and trying to fix them. If you want, then get this game, but I wouls recommend renting or borrowing it first.
