Godzilla Generations
Review by JBone
"What were they thinking?"
"GODZILLA GENERATIONS: When hurting Yourself is'nt such a bad idea anymore."
When I first heard of this game coming out and gazed at the wonderful screen shots, I said to my self, "Finally...a good Godzilla game is coming out..." I was expecting a good, not great game. The graphics had a good amount of polish and, in some screens, it was hard to tell if it was full motion video or in game shots! explosions, radioactive breath, and other eye candy had pretty good lighting effects. As you can tell, I'm not bashing this game for graphic reasons...It's the engine and gameplay.
First of all, Godzilla controls like a fat bear with a broken leg. He drags out of the ocean, waddles at an eye blistering .2 miles per hour. It feels as if you have no real control over our tail dragging friend. As you begin to really get into the game, mediocre level after level, it never picks up the pace and never really gets any more fun. (If it was fun to begin with) The only big graphical flaw is the buildings crumbling effect...They look like card board ripping apart.
Generation's engine is about the worst one I've come across. Imagine Microsoft's Flight Simulator, but the plane is Godzilla. Rarely ever do you get attacked, and when you do, the AI is so bad it's like the tanks are only decoration. You walk around and find the buildings that show up pink on the radar. The green ones on the radar Godzilla does not want to destroy. Go figure. Once you destroy the pink buildings the level is over. And it is so much fun, just imagine it like this...
You go to the store, pay fifty bucks, play as a diseased, slow walking, might as well be dead, Godzilla. Then walk around baron cities and only destroy certain ones, which makes no since what so ever. And then you can kick yourself in the head knowing well that you could have bought Sonic, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and so on.
So here's the basic overall stats...
XGraphics: 7.0 good characters and eye candy X
XSound: 2.0Familiar sounds and forgettable music X
XGameplay: 2.0 Or lack there off.... X
XReplay: 1.0 A few little extras...but that's it. X
X Over all: 2.0 Avoid this game! X
Note: This review is based on the Japanese game...If they fix the game before it comes to America, don't send me hate mail!
