    I. Introduction/Version History
    ===============================================================================

Did you ever play Carnage Heart on the PlayStation? Well, Marionette Handler
is the next generation of the Mech Programming game. You buy and build the
perfect robot, and then send it into battle. Just one problem: you don't have
any control of the robot while it's fighting. You must create a program to
hunt down and destroy enemy robots while staying alive on its own.

This FAQ is a very early work in progress. I haven't even entered my first
tournament yet, so I'm still learning the game myself. This guide should be
enough to let those unfamiliar with Japanese get a good head start into the
game and at least as far as getting their first Mech hunting and killing with
    ease.

    II. Getting Started
    ===============================================================================

So, you bought this great game and you have no idea what you're doing or how
to play the game? Just follow these simple directions to get started and
you'll be blowing up stuff in no time!

    1) From the title screen press Start and select "Single Mode".
    2) Select a controller and VMU with at least 31 free blocks.
    3) You'll be taken to the MARCS login screen to enter your name and handle.
See Section III-A for more information.
    4) After creating your login, you'll be taken to the MARCS Menu. Section
III-B has more information about the menu.
    5) The first thing you have to do is buy a Mech. Go to the Shop (the sixth
menu option, third from the right). Section III-F has more info here.
    6) As you enter the shop, you'll see the first Mech, Type I. Go ahead and
buy it by selecting the mech from the menu on the right (highlighting it
by moving the cursor over it and pressing the A button).
    7) To check out, select the button in the far lower-left hand corner of the
screen. Your money will be deducted, and your Mech will be delivered
        shortly.
    8) Go to the Body Selection menu (the first item on the menu bar).
    9) Once your Mech arrives, you'll get a chance to give it a different name.
    10) Now, go to the Program menu (the second option on the MERCS menu).
    11) You'll see the program menu now and a basic program for your Mech.
Let's give it a try! On the Program Menu, select the second option from
the right, and then choose the first option on that menu.
    12) Tah-dah! Your robot will now enter simulation mode against an identical
opponent and attempt to track it down and kill it.

Of course, the initial program is kind of crappy, and your robot probably won't
be able to find its hand in front of its face. But, you've now got a robot,
a program, and the means to get it up and running. Read the rest of this FAQ
    for lots more information!

    ===============================================================================
    III. Single Mode
    ===============================================================================

The single mode is the basic one-player mode of Marionette Handler, and it's
probably where you'll be spending most of your time. To begin playing, select
a controller and VMU with at least 31 free blocks.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
       A. MARCS Login
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first time you play Marionette Handler, you'll be asked to log in to MARCS,
the Marionette Adjusment Reactive Control System. The first screen you see
allows you to enter your name. The four options at the top of the screen are:
     -Hirigana- -Katakana- -Kanji- -English-

You'll probably want to pick the English characters to enter your name. Press
    the Enter button to continue.

The second screen selects your "Handle", a 10-character shortened version of
your name. Only simple English text here. Press the "Shift" button to change
betweeen an "ABC" and QWERTY keyboard, and press the Enter key when you've
entered the handle you want. After login, and then after each time you play,
you'll go to the MARCS menu.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
       B. MARCS Menu
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The MARCS Menu is the main menu of Single Mode. There are seven options across
the top of the screen, from left to right:

    -Body Selection-
This allows you to change between your multiple robots (if you have them),
as well as getting detailed information about your robots.

    -Program-
This is the "meat" of the game, where you create the programs that
determine how your bots will behave in battle conditions.

    -Weapon Selection-
This allows you to change your Main, Sub, and Special weapons from all the
    ones you currently own.

    -Parts Selection-
This allows you to change your various parts from all the ones you
    currently own.

    -Maintenance-
This allows you to fix up broken parts as well as tweaking settings on
    some of your parts.

    -Shop-
The shop is where you buy your bots and all their parts, as well as
    entering tournaments.

    -Trial-
The Trial Mode is where you go to build up your ranking. Many
tournaments and robot parts are only available to you if you have achieved a
    certain rank with your robots.

    -Exit-
This option returns you to the title menu.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
       C. Selection Menus
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are three selection menus available from the MARCS menu:
     -Body Selection- (option 1)
     -Weapon Selection- (option 3)
     -Parts Selection- (option 4)

Each of these three menus works pretty much the same, so I'll go over their
    basic operations all at once.

On the Weapon Selection screen, you can choose from three options on the left
    side:
     -Main Weapon-
This is your primary missile weapon.
     -Sub Weapon-
    This is your melee weapon.
     -Special Weapon-
Your special weapons include grenades and mines.

On the Parts Selection screen, you can choose from the following:
     -CPU-
The CPU determines how fast your program is carried out.
     -Memory-
Memory is where you store your programs. The bigger the memory card, the more
instructions you can place on it.
     -Accelerator-
The accelerator helps to determine how fast your robot can accelerate and stop
    on a dime.
     -Main Motor-
The main motor determines the speed and agility of your robot.
     -Damper-
The damper absorbs damage your robot takes from enemy fire.
     -Radar-
Your radar is used to track enemy robots, obstacles, and incoming fire.
     -Energy Pack-
The energy pack powers your robot. The more energy you have, the longer your
robot can run and the more devices you can install at once.
     -Armor Plate-
Your Armor Plate is, well, your armor that protects you from harm.

To change robots, parts, or weapons, use the left and right arrows at the
bottom (under the "Command" sign) and use the middle button to select.

To get detailed information about your robot, hit the button on the right just
    underneath your robot's profile.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
       D. Detailed Information
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The detailed information menu has five options under "Selection":

The program menu is laid out as follows:

     -Memory Switch-
This lets you switch between Memory cards.
     -Range Select-
After selecting a range (highlighted in green), the menu displayed is:
         -Move-
         -Copy-
         -Delete-

This command pastes a previously moved or copied range (via Range Select).
     -Undo-
    This un-does your last command.
     -Trace On/Off-
This turns on or off the visual trace of the program code.
     -Automatic Debug-
If you select this, any program chips that are not part of the current program
    will be automatically deleted.
     -Simulation Test-
This allows you to test out your program against an exact copy of your robot
and program. The four options are:
          -Inactive Opponent, No Obstacles-
          -Inactive Opponent, No Obstacles-
          -Active Opponent, Obstacles-

This returns you to the MARCS menu.

Positioning your cursor over a program space and pressing the A button brings
up the chips menu. The menu reads as follows:
     -Movement-
Moves, turns, jumps and stops your robot.
     -Acceleration-
