Question from Phantasmguy

How does a Pokemon get pokerus?

I know what it is, but just don't know how to get it.

Phantasmguy provided additional details:

Is there any way, shape or form, to tell if a Pokemon has it or not?

You can catch pokerus by fighting or pokemon that contains the desease. Capturing would do way better, especially bcause you usually need to fight 2-3 times with a pokerus pokemon to get it.

Once you have it, it's only active for 24-48 hours, depending where you keep them. Usually when you pass 23:00-24:00, the status will become permanent, meaning the pokemon that has it, can't spread it anymore.

Usually people counter this by putting the pokemon in the pc in the centre. Theres no limit on time there as long as it's in the pc.

Don't confuse this: Pokemon can have pokerus and pokemon can have a smily next to their pic. When the status pkrs (purple status in the personality screen) this means you can give other pokemon the status. A smily face means it overcome it. The EV's will still rise double the way but you can't give it to other pokemon. This also means that you can't give it pokerus anymore (which is useless as it already is doubled permanently).

EV and the rus are explained in the "read for posting FAQ".

To get Pokerus, you need to battle (or capture) a Pokemon that has it.

Don't expect to catch it quickly, as finding an infected Pokemon is incredibly rare.

The chances of you getting it are very slim you have about a 1/10 chance of getting it about the same as shiny pokemon.

Pokerus is a beneficial infection that affects pokemon in the game. there is no definite way to contract it. But if you do have it, it will spread to the other pokemon in your team(assuming that you have a pokemon infected in your team), if you box the pokemon that is infected the condition will be frozen on that pokemon and it will not go away untill you remove the pokemon and use it for a while. The infection itself helps increase stats faster when the infected pokemon levels up.
