This is a FAQ/Walkthrough for DK Jungle Climber which is for the Nintendo DS. If you need help with any part of the game, then this is the guide for you.
This was originally a Challenge FAQ for DK Jungle Climber, but since there were no other FAQs for this game, and I didn't have a single FAQ/Walkthrough in my contribution page, I thought 'Why not?' and decided to start a FAQ/Walkthrough. This will probably be my only FAQ/Walkthrough however, so enjoy it while it lasts ;).

I also changed the Legal Stuff section so that this guide would be a little less restricted, (please note that this guide still has some restrictions, however). Along with that, I made many other minor changes throughout the guide.
These are questions that will probably be asked a lot. Therefore, they will be answered here.
Question 1: Help! I'm stuck on a level!
Answer: Make sure you read the help for that level.
Question 2: Help! I'm STILL stuck on a level even though I read the walkthrough for it!
Answer: Either you need some practice, or I made a mistake. Catch me on the message boards and let me know if there is a mistake.
Question 3: Can you help me with Multiplayer mode?
Answer: Sorry, but I don't really play with other people often (sadly). But basically, it's a special mode where you play a couple minigames with up to four people, with only one person needing a game cartridge.
Question 4: How do I save my game?
Answer: Simply complete a level or challenge. Your game will save automatically.
Question 5: How do I erase a file?
Answer: Select the file that you want to erase and press 'X'. Please note that an erased file can't be restored, so be careful.
Question 6: How do I copy a file?
Answer: As far as I'm concerned, you can't. Sorry. But at the same time, you can only have a maximum of three files, and that's pretty limited for copying...
Question 7: When Funky Kong asks me if I want to go to a little island, I try to say 'Yes', but it won't let me. Why not?
Answer: Check the top screen. Do you have enough oil barrels?
Answer: It's not really a barrel. It doesn't launch you anywhere like the other barrels, you collect it instead. For that reason, I don't really consider it a 'Barrel'.
Question 9: How do I receive 100% on my file?
Answer: You will have to collect all the DK Coins, (and in the process, you will collect all of the other needed items as well). You will also have to receive at least a C rank on every level in Challenge Mode.
Question 10: What's the reward for reaching 100%?
Answer: Nothing except the last Story cutscene. Sad, isn't it?
Question 11: Hey! Your walkthrough says to do this, but you're supposed to do it like this!
Answer: There are many ways to complete a level and collect all the special items. I just list one way to do it, but there may be dozens of ways to do it. If you think you know a SIMPLER (not different, but simpler) way to do it, let me know on the message boards.
Question 12: Why is it that the numbers of the Banana Coins that you have listed in a walkthrough are sometimes out of place? For example, you sometimes call the first coin Banana Coin #2, and the second coin Banana Coin #1. Why is that?
Answer: On the top screen of the pause menu, there are five slots for Banana Coins. I like to base a coin's number by which slot it appears in when it is collected, with #1 on the far left and #5 on the far right. I do this just because...
Question 13: Why is it that sometimes you link a certain item to its section, and sometimes you don't? For example, in one part of your guide you have Donkey Kong, and in another part you simply have Donkey Kong.
Answer: This can be based on several factors. One of them is that I feel that I have said it so many times in a row, I might not want to link it every time it's used. For example, you might see Barrel Cannon used so many times in one paragraph, that there is no need to slap the link on all of them. Another factor is that it might not be as important. For example, I might not link characters as much since their section is really only a further detailed explanation for their role. The final factor is that the mood I am in can affect how much I take the other factors into practice.
Question 14: Why is it that in the Challenge Mode section you include the C rank score for max levels?
Answer: I do this because receiving a C rank on every level in Challenge Mode is a requirement to getting 100% on your file.
Question 15: Help! Im trapped inside a box! How do I get out?
Answer: Please, ask questions that involve my guide or DK Jungle Climber ONLY.

Story & Characters
In this section, I will explain what the adventure is about and some of the characters that are involved in the game.
While on Sun Sun Beach, the members of the DK crew hang out for a little while. Soon however, the Kongs start to get a little bit hungry. Diddy Kong notices a giant banana on top of a mountain, which Donkey Kong decides to go out and fetch. While on his adventure however, it starts to become a little bit more than just a search for food...
The main character that you control. He is one of Nintendo's biggest characters and is back for another game!
Donkey Kong's 'little buddy' and 'sidekick'. In this game, he takes Donkey Kong's back from time to time.
The oldest, and possibly wisest, member of the DK crew. He teaches you everything there is to know about the game, but he complains a lot, as well.
King K. Rool
Donkey Kong's main villain. He is always up to no good. In this case, he has stolen the Crystal Banana to use its powers for evil!
A strange alien from the planet 'Plantaen'. that looks like a banana. He has never appeared in a Donkey Kong game before. He's on your side, but when you first meet him, he mistakes you for Kremlings and attacks you. He originally had the Crystal Banana, but it has been stolen from King K. Rool.
The 'coolest' member of the DK crew. He is in charge of flying you to extra levels. You can play as him in multiplayer mode along with Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, and Dixie Kong.
A female member of the DK crew. She is in charge of Challenge Mode.
Diddy Kong's girlfriend. She is in charge of the Extra Stages. You can play as her in multiplayer mode along with Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, and Funky Kong.
She was originally Cranky Kong's wife, but she has passed away. Don't worry though, she is still with you as a ghost, a friendly ghost.
Basics & Controls
In this section, I will explain the basics of what to do in each level, and the basic controls.
Your goal in each level is to make it to the end. The exit is represented by the arch with 'DK' on it. If you die, you will be sent back to the beginning of the area you were just in. All bananas and jewels you collected in that area will still be counted, but special items, like banana coins, will have to be re-collected in that area. If you enter a new area, you can't go back to the previous area without restarting the level, so make sure you did what you want to do in the area before leaving it. If your amount of lives reaches 0, you will still have one more actual life. If you lose that life, you will have to start the entire level over. You may find Diddy Kong in a DK Barrel. He is very useful, as he is needed for certain things and gets hit instead of you if you ever 'get hit'. At the end of the last level of each island, you will face a boss that holds a Crystal Banana, some of which are very difficult. During the levels, you will run into special items and such that are explained in other parts of my guide. You don't need to collect these, and you can always play the levels again to collect them if you haven't. The A Button is used to attack. This goes for attacking enemies/bosses, and breaking open stuff. Attacking enemies and breaking open barrels may give you some bananas, crystals, or even valuable things, like banana coins. Anything else you need to know is explained in other parts of my guide. Good luck!
NOTE: The gameplay screen is the screen you are on while inside a level, a menu screen is any screen that has menu selections, and the map screen is the screen where you select a level.

You may notice in the controls section that the L and R buttons "clench" the hands. This means that they will close up and grab any pegs/pegboards/other climable objects infront of them. If you are holding on with only your left hand, you will spin counter-clockwise. If you hold on with only your right hand, you will spin clockwise. If you hold on with both hands, you will stay still. If you let go, you will swing in the direction you are facing. There are many different kinds of pegs in the game, including individual pegs, pegboards, pegs that fall when you grab them, slippery pegs, etc. Unique features throughout the game may include wierd ways of climbing. I will explain these features when we get to them. Overall, it's hard to explain in words, but I'm pretty sure you will get used to it.
This is where I talk about the items in the game that you will collect along the way it what is special about each one.
NOTE: All of these require Diddy Kong, and they each last for about twenty seconds from when you start using them in the air. When they only have a couple seconds left of use, they will start blinking red. You can't attack while using any of these either, but the hammer and torch attack for you, and the wings can knock enemies away from you. Each of these tools also have a special cheat. (See the Cheats section for more details).
While climbing, Diddy Kong will swing around hitting everything around you with this hammer. It can break almost anything, and it also collects items if it touches them. While climbing though, try to ignore the hammer and focus on Donkey Kong to keep your climbing accurate.
While in the air, Donkey Kong will hold a feather on the left, and Diddy Kong will hold a feather on the right. Press the L button to have Donkey Kong swing his feather and fly to the right, and press the R button to have Diddy Kong swing his feather and fly to the left. You will need to press the buttons quickly to actually fly though.
While climbing, Diddy Kong will hold this torch and have it blow fire towards the direction you are facing. The fire destroys enemies, and melts snow that makes pegboards unclimbable.
This barrel is a simple barrel that you can break with a simple attack. There are many different items you might find inside.
This barrel is like a regular barrel, except there is a ? on it, and instead of finding an item when breaking it, an interesting event, usually pegs/pegboards appearing, will occur.
This barrel has the letters 'TNT' on it, and will explode with anything that gives it a start, such as bombs, torches, etc. Stay away from the explosion, as it can be painful.
This barrel is almost unbreakable. Bombs, hammers, and other things might be able to break it open, however.
This barrel has an arrow on it. It's a special barrel that flies up high in the sky and you control it with L/R or left/right on the control pad.
This barrel is represented by a wierd image that is supposed to be showing a 'blast'. When you hop in this barrel, it will simply shoot you the direction that it is facing. You can't control them, but some of them move by themselves.
This barrel is represented by an arrow that spins counter-clockwise. You can change the direction if faces by pressing L/left on the control pad to spin it counter-clockwise and R/right on the control pad to spin it clockwise. Press A when you're ready to launch.
This barrel is represented by the letters 'DK' on it. If you don't have Diddy Kong with you, touch this barrel to open it up and reveal Diddy, who will join you. If you do have Diddy, touch it for a red jewel.
This barrel is represented by a 'B' with a 'Flash' around it. They aren't very common, but if you find them, you can jump inside to play a bonus minigame. In this minigame, there is a line of barrels that come in four different sizes. The order is like this: 1321412 and repeating, with 1 representing the smallest barrel, and 4 representing the largest barrel. The line will constantly move, and to stop it, press the A button. To get the largest size, try stopping at about the time when the '3' size barrel is above Donkey Kong's head. Once you get your barrel, you will have ten seconds to catch as many of the falling bananas you can. At around the last two seconds, the screen will be filled with bananas. At the end, the amount of bananas will be tallied and added to your total amount of bananas. You will also get an extra life for every 100 bananas.
Bananas & Lives
Bananas are scattered all over. They come as individuals, bunches of 5, and bunches of 10. If you collect 100 of them, you get an extra life. There is a counter for bananas in the top-left corner of the gameplay screen. Lives are valuable. Whenever you die, you get sent back to the beginning of the area (NOT ENTIRE LEVEL!) that you were just in. If you lose all of them, you can either quit or continue, but when you continue, you are sent back to the map screen. There is a counter for lives on the center part of the top of the gameplay screen. Once you reach 99 lives, the banana counter will stay at 99 when it gets there.
Jewels & Crystal Stars
Jewels aren't as common as bananas, but they are still scattered around. A green jewel is worth 1, a blue jewel is worth 5, and a red jewel is worth 10. Jewel points are counted on the top-right corner of the gameplay screen. If you get 100 jewel points, you get a Crystal Star. Crystal Stars are very special items. They are on the bottom-right corner of the gameplay screen, and if you touch them with the stylus, you will be invincible and can fly around for eight seconds. You can have up to three Crystal Stars, but you can also have up to six using the Crystal Stars cheat. If you have the maximum number of Crystal Stars, then the amount of jewels will stay at 99 when it gets there.
There is a golden K, O, N, and a G hidden in most of the levels. If you collect all of them in one level, you get an extra life.
Five of these are hidden in just about every level. They are gold coins with a banana bunch minted on them. If you collect them and replay the level, they will be replaced with a bunch of 5 bananas. You can collect these to unlock Extra Stages. (You can't play any of them until you beat the game, however. See the Extra Stages section for more details).
One of these are hidden in most of the levels. They are blue barrels with a flame on them. If you collect it and replay the level, it will be replaced with a bunch of 10 bananas. If you collect all of the oil barrels for an island, you can go to Funky Kong and fly to a little island.
One of these are hidden in just about every level. They are gold coins with the golden letters 'DK' on them. If you collect it and replay the level, it will be replaced with a bunch of 10 bananas. You can collect these to unlock special cheats. (See the Cheats section for more details).
These floating objects are grabbable. When you grab them, hold the button of the hand you are grabbing with to hold on to it. When you release the hand that is holding it, you will throw the stone. Stones are useful for many things.
These objects are similar to Stones, but they will explode in about five seconds from when you grab them. Their explosions are dangerous, but useful.
This is the main part of the guide. Here, I explain how to complete each level.
How to use this Walkthrough
In this walkthrough, I will tell you the best way to complete each level. I will also give the location of KONG Letters, Oil Barrels, DK Coins, and Banana Coins during the process. They will be in the middle of the level walkthroughs, so they will be in bold to make them easy to find in the text. I will also point out each Bonus Barrel, and special rooms with lots of bananas or jewels. I won't give you the location of every banana or other things that aren't needed to be collected, though. I will also list the enemies of the level in the beginning of its walkthrough. Most of the enemies are from the Donkey Kong Country games, so I will base their names from those games. If there is an enemy that doesn't appear in the Donkey Kong Country games, I will name them by their species name. If one of their names are in bold, that means that the level is their first appearance, and the way they attack and the best way for you to attack them will be explained. There are also some random features in the game, which I will explain the first time they come around, and if they ever appear again, I will link back to the level they first appeared in incase you want a re-explaination. I will also rarely, tell you to use a Crystal Star. You may use them if you like, but since you might not have one all the time, I won't make you use them a lot. The only time I WILL make you use them is when it is required to get a special item (such as a DK Coins, Banana Coins, etc.), and that will only be the case when you are in a room where 100 jewel points are provided right there for you, anyway. Alright now, on to the walkthrough!
Sun Sun Island
There are five levels in this world (with the first one being a tutorial level that does not have any special items). This is the first and simplest world of the game. Good luck!
Cranky's Teachin's (1-1)
In this level, Cranky will pretty much explain the basics to you. You will play Rolling Panic, where you will have to earn atleast 80 points, Banana Grab, where you will have to score 50 points, and Speed Climb, where you will have to race Diddy Kong to the top. If you want to, you can press Start during a lecture to skip the level, or press the B button to skip a section. If you are playing a challenge, the pause menu will have the option to 'Keep Going', which means to skip the challenge. Overall, this is more of a tutorial level, not a real level. I won't explain the enemies in this level, as most of you will probably just skip it.
Sun Sun Beach (1-2)
New Features: None
Start off by climbing the set of pegboards. At the top, you will notice the K Letter. Collect it, then go to the right to talk to Cranky Kong about Banana Coins. Climb up the next set of pegboards above you and go to the right to find a small pegboard with Banana Coin #1, and the entrance to the next area.
In this area, go right and talk to Cranky. He will explain scrolling the screen vertically. Scroll the screen down to reveal that there is Banana Coin #2 with a Cannon Barrel on the ground below the ledge. Collect the banana coin, enter the cannon barrel, and climb the pegboards nearby with the O Letter on the left just as you start climbing (or directly above you or on your right depending on where you start climbing). Continue climbing the pegboards, and find Banana Coin #3 slightly above the top. Collect it, then go to the right and use the individual pegs to reach a Bonus Barrel. When you are done playing the bonus game, go right to enter the next area.
Go right and talk to Cranky for information on Oil Barrels. When he is finished, climb up the arch of pegboards and pegs with the N Letter right on top of the highest point. Then you will notice a set of three pegs with a barrel above it, and two pegs and an Oil Barrel above the barrel. Hold the top two pegs of the group of three, then attack up to go through the barrel and reach the oil barrel. Go right to enter the next area.
Go right and talk to Cranky (ugh... again!) for information on DK Coins. When he is finally finished, climb up the arch of pegboards (don't forget the barrel with the G Letter right above it near the top of the arch!), then go right into a slight opening in the mountain. Break the barrel there to reveal Banana Coin #4. Climb up the individual pegs, and when you reach the pegboards, go to the left to find three pegs with Banana Coin #5. Collect it, then go back to the pegboards and climb up. You will find two pegs with a barrel above them, and a DK Coin above the barrel. Attack through the barrel to reach the DK Coin, then go right to finish the level. Congratulations!
Enemy: This blue dragonfly will fly in a constant horizontal (and maybe even vertical) pattern. It will hurt you if it simply touches you. Simply attack it in any way to defeat it.
NOTE: Although, a Flitter does appear in this level, you will not be running into it if you follow my walkthrough for this level, so there is no need to worry about it for now.
Enemy: This strange mouse will walk around in a constant pattern on a pegboard. It will hurt you if it simply touches you. Simply attack it in any way to defeat it.
Feature: This special flower can send you to places you can't reach by yourself. What you do is grab onto it and hold on. Once it launches you, let go of the button, as holding it will affect your flight, which isn't a good thing. The giant flower can send you in both directions. Whenever it launches you, it will be ready to launch in the other direction. You don't have to actually 'use' it to have it switch, though. You can simply grab it and let go right away. In order to have the most accurate landing, you might want to grab as close to the center of the flower as you can.
Feature: These float in midair. If you end up in one, Donkey Kong's body will be sticking out, but you won't fall out. You have two options to choose from. One of them is using the left and right buttons on the control pad to shake around eight times. You will get some green crystals with a blue crystal, and end up falling down. You can also press one of the attack buttons to get only a blue crystal, and fly up. Using the control pad will get you more crystals, eight to be exact, but it's more of a hassle, and sometimes you might want to fly up instead. Although, you can use the control pad to get a few green crystals and then fly up with an attack.
Feature: Whenever you are in water, you will move a little bit slower than usual. You may also jump a little bit higher, too. There are some enemies that are found only underwater. There are also some unique features that can only be found underwater. Just like all the other Donkey Kong games, the Kongs have no problem being underwater, so you can stay down there for as long as you like.
Go right and talk to Cranky for information on the Giant Flower. You will notice the first giant flower just to the right. But don't launch yourself just yet! Grab the flower, but quickly let go so that it switches its aim. NOW let it launch you. You should end up at a set of pegboards for you to grab onto, and right next to you is the Oil Barrel. Collect it, then break the ? Barrel above to make a line of blue crystals appear next to the Cannon Barrel. Enter the cannon barrel, and you will end up in a place with pegboards on your left and right. Go on the ones on your left first, and you will end up at some individual pegs, some more pegboards, and finally, Banana Coin #1. Collect it, then go back to the area the cannon barrel shot you to, and then go on the pegboards on your right. You will end up at a bunch of individual pegs, and the K Letter will be above you. Collect that, then keep going right until you enter your next area.
You will notice a giant flower right near the entrance to this area. Simply grab it and quickly let it go to have it change directions, then grab it and let yourself launch. After you land, use the small pegboard and fly yourself up to get Banana Coin #2. Collect it, then go a little to the right and grab one of the small pegboards and fly up to the cannon barrel. It will shoot you right and through a bunch of breakable blocks (which are fairly common in this game and are breakable by just about anything). Banana Coin #3 will be right above you to collect. After you do, run left, let Donkey Kong jump off the ledge for you, and hold the L button. You should just barely grab the pegboard with the O Letter above it, but if you don't reach it, keep going left to reach a giant flower, and use it to launch you to the right and try again/have it launch you right to the pegboard. Once you finally collect the letter, go right to enter the next area.
Go right, and climb down on the pegboards. There is a Bush at the bottom that will give you a few crystals. Once you end up on the platform below the bush, you will notice a tall pegboard on your left with a Neek climbing around on it. If you would like, you may wait for the right moment, and grab the pegboard and attack it. From there, you can go right below the platform you were just on to collect the N Letter. If you don't want to do this, you can also grab the pegboards on your right and collect the letter the opposite way. If you happen to not get the letter and go too low, jump into a bush and use the attack button to fly up. Anyways, once you collect the letter, keep progressing down the pegboards with Neeks and bushes. Once you reach the bottom, you will notice a set of three individual pegs, and above that, a small pegboard. Use the individual pegs to reach the pegboard, and from there, go left into the mountain. Go down to the cannon barrel, and let it launch you up to the DK Coin. Go back down to the bottom again, and go right to enter the next area.
Go right, and you will soon end up Underwater. Keep going right, and you will end up at a cannon barrel. Try to jump over it. If you aren't successful, it will launch you into another cannon barrel that will launch you to the right to another cannon barrel that will launch you down. If that happens, use the moving pegs to reach the ledge high on the left. Either way, collect Banana Coin #4 below the first cannon barrel, then use the two individual pegs on the right of it to reach the Bonus Barrel on the small island. When you are done with the minigame, go right to the pegboards and collect the G Letter that will soon be above you. After collecting that, go into the cannon barrel right of it. While underwater, go right to the moving individual pegs and use them to reach the ledge far up right. Go right into a secret room with a bunch of pegboards with crystals and Banana Coin #5 in the middle. Once you collect all the goodies in that room, exit it and go left and enter the cannon barrel left of the individual pegs that you climed to enter the secret room. It will launch you to another cannon barrel that will launch you right infront of the exit. Simply walk right through it to complete your second level.
Enemy: This little creature will fly in a horizontal pattern. It is found in dark environments. They can only hurt you if you touch them gently. A simple attack should finish it off easily.
Feature: This giant rock is like a large round pegboard. However, it rolls depending on where your weight is, and it lays on ground that you aren't able to walk on. If you hold the right side, it will start rolling right, and same with the left side. Since you will roll along with it, and you might want to keep it rolling in the same direction, you might want to make it start rolling, then release, and grab on to the side again, then release, grab, and so on. It takes practice, but you will get use to it eventually.
Go right and start climbing up the set of pegboards. Once you reach the set of pegboards with a Flitter, attack it to get it out of the way, then go right and destroy the breakable blocks to reveal a small area with three barrels and an Oil Barrel. Collect it, then go left back to the pegboards. Go up to the next set of pegboards, then go right to collect the K Letter. Go back left and, before you climb the individual pegs, defeat the Flitter] nearby to receive Banana Coin #1. Climb the individual pegs to reach the [[Cannon Barrel, which will launch you to the entrance to the next area.
Yikes! We are in a cave now! Don't worry, there isn't any need to worry, really. It's just a place with a few extra features and enemies is all. Just follow my instructions and you will be fine. Go right to the Boulder, and grab the left side. Use the strategy explained in the Boulder section to roll it to the left and reach Banana Coin #2. Then roll the boulder right, and jump to the ledge. You will find your first DK Barrel, and a Neek climbing around a set of pegboards. Grab the DK Barrel to get Diddy Kong, and climb up the pegboards while clearing the Neek out of the way. Grab the nearby boulder, and make it roll to the left as far as it can go. Jump up to the ledge when you get there, then grab the individual pegs above. Attack the Neek to get it out of the way, then jump up to the platform to reach the Cannon Barrel just to the right. When you land, go left into the Cannon Barrel below the pegboards. After getting up to the top screen, go left to collect the O Letter, and continue left to the pegboard to collect Banana Coin #3. Once you collect it, go all the way right, jump off the ledge, then continue right to the next area.
Go right and talk to Cranky. He will explain the Diddy Attack, which you use by tapping the A button twice while having Diddy Kong with you. If you don't have him, go right and get the DK Barrel. Before you use the Diddy Attack to break the ? Barrel however, go a little to the right and use it to collect Banana Coin #4. After you collect it, grab the pegboards and then the individual pegs, and use the Diddy Attack to break the ? Barrel. Use the pegboards that just appeared to make your way up. Once you reach a ledge, grab the pegboard above it and use the Diddy Attack to break the ? Barrel above. Use all the small pegboards that appear to reach a new ledge. Use the larger pegboards and use the Diddy Attack to break another ? Barrel, and use the large pegboards to reach a new ledge. Before going to the right however, collect the N Letter above the top pegboard, THEN go right to enter the next area.
Before climbing any pegboards, go to the right and jump onto the ledge. From there, you will notice a set of pegboards with a Neek. Get it out of the way, then use your Diddy Attack to break the high barrel on the right, which contains Banana Coin #5. After breaking the barrel, go left to the pegboards and go up, breaking the breakable blocks along the way. You will notice your first Bat above, and many more. Ignore them for now, and go the right to find a high ? Barrel. Break it to reveal a bunch of pegboards. Climb them to reach the G Letter (attack a Bat if it gets in your way!). Go back to the highest pegboard and break the breakable blocks. Jump onto the small platform on your left, and attack the Bat when you have a chance to clear it out of the way. Once you do, climb up the two pegboards and break the breakable blocks. Once you are in the open sunshine again, don't go right and finish the level just yet. Instead, use the set of pegboards to reach the high ledge to the left, then go left to enter a secret room. In this room, there is a DK Barrel on the right. Break it whether you have Diddy Kong or not, then use the Diddy Attack to collect the crystals above. There is also a DK Coin above an unbreakable block. To collect it, simply use your Diddy Attack at an angle. Once you collect everything in there, exit the room, then go down to the pegboards and to the right to finish the level.
Enemy: This evil bird will either fly in it's own little pattern, or spit nuts that hurt you. You can destroy the nuts no matter what, so you will just have to avoid them. This bird can also hurt you simply by touching you. A simply attack should defeat it, but if it is spitting nuts, watch out.
Go right and talk to Cranky about moving in midair (I honestly think that this lecture is just for people who have never played a platformer video-game before. Seriously, just about every platformer involves moving right after jumping). Once he is finished, jump into the Cannon Barrel right nearby. Once you are in the air, move to the cannon barrel on your right. Now, wait until you fall just a tiny bit, then move right onto the ledge to collect the Oil Barrel. Jump into the Cannon Barrel that is right above you, then move to the Cannon Barrel on your right. While in the air, move to the right just a little bit to collect the K Letter, then move a little bit back to the left and land in the Cannon Barrel that you were just launched from. When you are in the air again, move to the Cannon Barrel on your left. It will shoot you to Banana Coin #1. After collecting it, hold right to end up at another ledge and jump into the Cannon Barrel to enter the next area.
Go right and talk to Cranky about the Rolling Barrel (he will call it the 'Spinner Barrel'). Jump into the one right nearby, and shoot yourself up and right to collect the O Letter. Go back into the same Rolling Barrel and launch yourself up and left into the next Rolling Barrel. In that one, point yourself straight up and break the barrel right above you to collect Banana Coin #2. After collecting it, shoot yourself up and right to reach a ledge with another Cannon Barrel that will shoot you to the next area (if you don't have Diddy Kong, you may get the DK Barrel right off the ledge if you would like to).
The next part has many different paths to take. This is just one way to do it however. Climb up the pegboards to reach the Rolling Barrel. Launch yourself to the Cannon Barrel up and right, which will launch you to another Cannon Barrel that will launch you to another Rolling Barrel. Launch yourself to the right through breakable blocks to Banana Coin #4 (yes, not #3, but #4. Don't worry, #3 will come soon). A Cannon Barrel will launch you back to the Rolling Barrel. Launch yourself to the Cannon Barrel up and left. It will launch you to Banana Coin #3 (told you!), and to another Rolling Barrel. Launch yourself to the Cannon Barrel up and right, defeating a Flitter (actually two!) along the way. It will launch you to another Rolling Barrel. From there, launch yourself up and right to reach the DK Coin. From there, you will end up on a ledge. Move slightly to the left to collect the N Letter, and let yourself fall down to a Rolling Barrel. Launch yourself up to a Cannon Barrel that will launch you to the right through breakable blocks. You will end up right below a Cannon Barrel. Jump inside to enter the next area.
Climb up the moving pegboards and watch out for the Necky above. Clear it out of the way, then go to the right through breakable blocks and end up in a little room with a bunch of crystals and a Rolling Barrel. Collect everything, then launch yourself to the platform up and right. Go left, grabbing the DK Barrel along the way, and use the pegs right above you to get rid of the Necky, collecting the G Letter along the way. From there, climb up the pegboards, clearing the Necky along the way, and once you reach the highest moving pegboard, collect Banana Coin #5 on your left. Continue up and jump into the Bonus Barrel. Once you are finished, go right to watch a cutscene, and then...
This strange flying ship will try to launch carrot bombs that will slowly fall towards the ground. As they fall, they might move left and right a little bit. As it flies by, the ship will move up and down a little bit, too. In order to defeat this boss, you will need to use the set of pegboards and attack the ship in any place while avoiding carrot bombs. When you attack it, a red button will pop out of the middle of the bottom. The ship will fly off the screen, and it will fly across the screen quickly three times. If you attack the red button, the ship will lose one of its three lives, and some bananas might pop out. You will then see the ship fly in the backround and launch a bunch of carrot bombs. Just watch the top screen carefully and move around to avoid them. Repeat this process two more times, and the ship will go down. Oh yeah, and if you don't have Diddy Kong, you can grab the DK Barrel on the right. Once you defeat the boss, you will watch a cutscene and you have completed the first world. Congratulations!
There are five levels in this world. This is the second world of the game. Good luck!
Enemy: This evil yellow jacket will slowly fly around in its own pattern. Just like almost all the other enemies, it simply touches you to attack you. You have to be carful with this one though. In order to attack it, aim for the front. Don't hit the back where the spikes are, or else you will get hurt and this enemy will be no more than pushed around.
Feature: You may notice a small yellow peg with a strange fan of some sort spinning around on it. It's kind of difficult, but if you look closely, you might be able to tell if it is spinning clockwise or counter-clockwise. If you grab a clockwise-spinning peg with the right hand, or a counter-clockwise-spinning peg with the left hand, you will spin normally. If you do the opposite, you will spin backwards, but the same effects still take place: you will spin at a faster speed than usual, and if you let go, you will fly pretty far, which is the main use for this feature.
Climb up the pegboard to your first Rotating Peg. Although, it does seem proper to spin forward, it could still work if you spin backwards. Use the extra boost to make it up to the higher of the two platforms (if you end up on the lower one, go right and use another Rotating Peg to make it to the higher platform). Use the pegboards to reach the K Letter you see above, then go right and up to the next rotating peg and use it to make it to a much higher platform up and left. Grab the pegboards and go right to the individual pegs. When you reach the tall set of pegboards, break the barrel above to reveal Banana Coin #1. Let yourself fall down and then go right to enter the next area.
Go right and grab the rotating peg and swing straight up. Go right and you will find a pegboard with a Neek. Clear it out of the way, and climb up to the rotating peg. Use it to reach the pegboard just slightly above, then go left into the mountain. Grab yet, another rotating peg and swing yourself up and grab the left ledge to collect Banana Coin #2. Defeat the Flitter to your right and cross the gap to reach the right ledge. Continue right to collect the O Letter and enter the next area.
Go right and talk to Cranky about enemies with spikes and stingers. You will notice your first Zinger above, but you really don't have to worry about it. Just use the pegboards to reach the ledge to the right, and continue right to find a Giant Flower and a DK Barrel. Have the giant flower swing you to the left, and jump into the Bush. Attack from it, grab the individual pegs, and swing to the individual pegs to the right, collecting Banana Coin #3 along the way. Continue right to the pegboards and climb up. There will be a Zinger above. If you want to, you can try to attack it, but if you want to play it safe, wait until it is on the right side, then climb up the pegboards and to the left. Grab the giant flower you see, but quickly let go so that it switches sides. Then grab it, let it swing you, and grab the pegboards that you come across. Swing right to collect the Oil Barrel, then go down and right to enter the next area.
Go right and talk to Cranky about the Hammer. Then grab the pegboard to reach the hammer you see above (if you don't have Diddy Kong, go right and grab the DK Barrel first). Climb up the pegboards, destroying each Metal Keg and Zinger. As you start climbing, make sure you get the N Letter towards the right. Continue up the middle of the screen, collecting Banana Coin #4, which is floating on a small pegboard that is being guarded by a few Zingers that are no match for the hammer! Continue up, then go the right to a Cannon Barrel that will blast you to the next area.
This area is a bit of a maze, but just follow my steps and you should be okay. Go right, and jump off the edge while holding the R button/right on the control pad. You will end up in a small place with some bananas. Continue right, and enter the cannon barrel, which will launch you into another cannon barrel that will launch you near an edge. This next part is a bit tricky, so listen closely. Do you remember what the area around the first cannon barrel looked like? Jump off of the edge and stay close to the right. When you are below the ledge with a bunch of ten bananas, go a little bit more to the right, and you will end up on the ledge with Banana Coin #5. If you don't do this correctly, you might fall to the bottom of the screen and have to start the area over, so be careful. Now, jump off of the ledge and hold left. You should end up in a little area with the DK Coin. Collect it, then go back to the first cannon barrel you entered. From where you end up, climb up the pegboards and enter the lower cannon barrel pointing straight right. You will end up collecting the G Letter and in a bit of an awkward place. As a bit of a bonus, once you are shot out of the last cannon barrel, go a little to the right and land into the lower cannon barrel that points straight up. You will end up in a special area with some crystals. You will be back in the same place you just were once you exit the area. From there, grab one of the pegboards and jump into the cannon barrel pointing up and right. From where you end up, climb up the set of pegboards and enter another cannon barrel pointing up and right. From there, go right to finally finish the level.
Glass Labyrinth (2-2)
NOTE: If you have not completed this level yet, the name of it will be '??????'. Once you do complete it, it will be called 'Glass Labyrinth'. This will be the case for levels that involve the Device.
Enemies: Lockjaw, Shuri, Flitter
Enemy: This evil fish is only found Underwater. If they notice you, they will do a slight charge towards you. They swim in a horizontal pattern, and can easily be killed simply by attacking them.
Enemy: This evil little starfish is only found Underwater. It spins around, swimming in its own little diagonal pattern trying to hit you. A simple attack is all it takes to take this guy out.
Feature: This is a pretty wierd feature. Basically in some levels, Xananab will be there and will tell you that King K. Rool has escaped to another world. In order to get to this world, you will need to bring the device to him. The device is in the same area as Xananab, and once you collect it, and icon of it will show below the banana icon of the banana counter. Once you bring it to Xananab, he will create a wormhole with it, and you will enter a special world that appears only a few times throughout the entire game. Near the end of the level, you will do the same thing and enter another wormhole that will bring you back to the island, and you will complete the level there.
Feature: This strange switch is made up of two pegs. If you grab both of them and hold them for a couple seconds, a special event will occur, usually an opening to another area being revealed. I'm actually quite surprised they didn't use this feature any earlier in the game.
Feature: In Glass Labyrinth stages, Donkey Kong will occasionally be by himself, and top screen will become a copy of the bottom screen... almost. The top and bottom screens vary in not only shades of color, but where bananas and pegs/pegboards are located. If the two screens end up not matching up because one DK grabs a peg that isn't there on the other screen, the top screen will shatter, and you will have to start the area over (you won't lose any lives, however). When I guide you through this, I will tell you what specific pegboards to grab by saying their color. Some pegboards, however, may be on both screens, but will have a different color depending on which screen it's on. If this happens, I will say the color that is on the bottom screen. Make sure you remember that! Also, be aware that I will only list one of many methods of getting through this task.
Feature: This floating piece of glass can either be useful, dangerous, or both. Some of them have spikes on the sides, which are very painful, and some don't. The middle section, however, is always safe, and you might be able to use it as a platform to get to other places. You can also shatter it by attacking it, (if it has spikes on the sides, though, watch out!). They also appear again when you exit an area and enter it again.
Start of by simply walking right to end up Underwater. Once there, start walking to the right. Once you jump off of an edge, grab the pegboards, and attack each Lockjaw nearby (there should only be two of them). Once you get them out of the way, go down and you should see a Barrel Cannon pointing downward, but don't enter it just yet! Instead, enter the pit on the left of it. You will collect Banana Coin #2 (don't worry, I haven't forgotten about #1), and you will enter a Barrel Cannon that will shoot you back into the previous area. From there, go right into the barrel cannon that I mentioned earlier.
You should now be in an area with many jewels and the K Letter in the middle. Collect everything, then enter the Barrel Cannon on the left. You will be shot into a second barrel cannon, and from where you end up, walk right into yet, another pair of barrel cannons. After being launched from the second one, however, you will notice the O Letter on the left in an opening of the cliff. Before moving onto the top of the cliff, let yourself fall straight down and try to fall left into the opening to get the letter. It may take a few tries, but you will get it. Now, once you collect it, launch yourself to the top of the cliff and use the pegboards to swing yourself to the left at an upward angle. From there, you should land on a Regular Barrel (with another one under it). From there, walk left and jump over to a single barrel, then walk left again to reach another pair of barrels, and then jump down to the Bonus Barrel. Now, once you are done with the bonus game, don't go right to the next area, but left. You should end up Underwater after a slightly large fall. Climb up to the pegboards that are above water, and try to use the Diddy Attack to break the Regular Barrel above that does not have a twin (if you don't have Diddy Kong, you can get him from a DK Barrel that is right near the start of the level Underwater. Now, go back to the pair of barrel cannons that you used to reach the top of the cliff, and walk right to enter the next area.
Walk right, and you will notice Xananab standing there. If you want, you can talk to him about how he saw K. Rool escape to another demension and the Device. Continue right, and take a slightly large fall to end up Underwater, (watch out for the Flitter on your way down!). Once there, walk left to jump over the Lockjaw, and continue left to jump over another one (as long as you keep walking, they shouldn't hurt you). Once on the left side, climb up the pegboards and end up above water. Go right onto the cliff to collect the Device (watch out for another Flitter!), and jump into the Barrel Cannon. Walk left to Xananab, and jump after him into the wormhole that opens up.
Go right and talk to Xananab about the special area you are in. From there, climb up the pegboards and go left to the individual pegs and position yourself just right to use the Diddy Attack and reach Banana Coin #3 (if you don't have him, you can get the DK Barrel right under the Switch Handle). Once you collect the coin, grab the two pegs of the Switch Handle to open up a path to the Barrel Cannon. Enter it to reach the next area. In the next area, a mirror will appear infront of Donkey Kong, and Mirror Madness will begin! Xananab will then explain it to you. Once he is finished, jump up and grab any pegboard in the first row. From there, swing to the third row, then climb the fourth row to reach the Switch Handle. Enter the Barrel Cannon that is open to you to reach the next area. Now, grab either of the purple pegboards in the first row, then climb up the second row. From there, swing up to the fourth row, then climb up to the Switch Handle enter the Barrel Cannon to reach another area.
Listen carefully for this part. Grab the purple pegboard above you, then grab ONLY the green pegboard right above you. Then, climb (or carefully swing) to another green pegboard just up and to the right. Climb over the the purple pegboard just on the right, and swing over to the two smaller pegboards on the right. From there, swing over to the slightly larger purple pegboard, then carefully climb to the green pegboard just on the right. Now, grab the two small pegboards just under the Switch Handle, then climb up to it. Enter the Barrel Cannon to get to the next area.
This part is tricky, but just listen closely. Jump up to the purple pegboard in the middle of the second row. From there, climb up to the blue pegboard right above you. Now, use any of the individual pegs to reach the individual green peg at the top. Then, grab the larger green pegboard just to the right and CAREFULLY grab the individual green peg up and to the right. From there, grab the purple individual peg, then the higher green peg, then the blue peg on the left, then the higher green peg, then the higher blue peg, then the higher green peg, then the larger purple pegboard. Finally, grab the individual pegs just to the left to reach the Switch Handle and use the Barrel Cannon. Once you enter the next small area, Xananab will speak to you about standing infront of the mirrors to go back to normal. Use the pegboards on the right or left side to reach the mirror on the platform and do just that. Then climb up the set of pegboards to reach the Switch Handle and use the barrel cannon to get to the next area.
The next area is basically two seperate areas, and going to the right of the right screen will lead you to the left of the left screen, and vice versa. To start off, attack the glass on either side to break through and enter the second screen. No matter which way you go, you will have to shatter some more glass and end up in a small area with a DK Barrel and a couple of pegboards. Leave the barrel there just in case, and use the pegboards to break through a layer of glass, climb more pegboards, and break more glass. From there, climb up the set of four pegboards and you will see some Floating Glass with spikes above. Shatter it by attacking only the mid-section, and try to avoid the spikes! Once you have gotten rid of it, go just left from where it was floating to enter a small area with Banana Coin #4 (you can also go into a small area on the right for a bunch of bananas). After collecting it, go back and climb another set of pegboards and go right. You should see the N Letter above. Since there is a block in your way, you will have to use the two pegboards and the Diddy Attack at an angle. Once you get it done right, walk right to enter the next area. (If you want, you can go to the left side and use the Diddy Attack to get a bunch of bananas).
Grab the pegboard and face downward. Attack the glass below to shatter it and end up in a Barrel Cannon. After breaking more glass, grab the pegboard at the top of your height and swing right. Continue right to find Xananab, who will talk about how he just saw K. Rool leave and that he needs the Device again. Go left and grab the set of pegboards and break the glass below. As you fall, grab another set of pegboards and you may notice two pieces of Floating Glass below you, both of which have spikes. Very carefully, attack one without getting hit by the other, and grab the pegboards below to attack the second one while facing upward. Now, go right of the spot where the pieces of Floating Glass were to collect the Device. Before returning it to Xananab, however, go back down to the bottom set of pegboards above a layer of glass and use it to break the glass. Destroy another layer, and go down to a larger set of pegboards with the DK Coin. Once you collect it, break the one piece of glass to the left to enter the barrel cannon. From there, go right to Xananab to give him the Device, then jump into the wormhole.
In this last area, walk right and let yourself fall to end up Underwater, but stay towards the left near the cliff. You will probably see a Lockjaw nearby. Attack it to get it out of the way, then continue right. You will soon end up at an edge with three floating individual pegs nearby. If there is a Lockjaw nearby, try killing it to get it out of the way. Now, grab the floating individual pegs, and go down and right to collect the G Letter nearby. There are also three more individual pegs below, so use them if you have to. Now, from where you collected the letter, hold left go reach another edge. The Oil Barrel is just further left. Once you collect it, however, the area behind you will be blocked off! No worries, just pull the Switch Handle right nearby to open up the area further left. Now, you will need to pull the Switch Handle further left so you can go back right, but you will have to get each Shuri guarding it out of the way. No big deal really, just kill all three of them with a few simple attacks to get them out of the way, then pull the Switch Handle. Go all the way back right and use the individual pegs you used earlier to get back up. Now, after you use the individual pegs, go right and attack each Lockjaw (there should be two of them). From there, enter the Barrel Cannon, but don't go right to finish the level just yet! Instead, go left, and once you reach the edge, jump off and grab the individual peg just below it. It may take a few tries, but you will get it soon. From there, use the other two individual pegs to the right to reach Banana Coin #5, which is just beneath the exit. Once you collect it, jump back on to the platform with the exit, and walk right to finish the level.
