I would like to thank Andrea Robinson for providing the lyrics via her
Lyrics FAQ, which is the core element of this FAQ. I would like also
to thank Nintendo and iNiS for bringing us such a great game. We
can’t wait for the next one!

    ===
    1. Getting started
    ===
    --
    1.1 Elite Beat who?
    --
Elite Beat Agents is a rhythm game developed by iNiS for the
Nintendo DS. It is the american version of "Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan",
a Japanese rhythm game released in 2005. The game was released
on November 6, 2006 in North America, May 3, 2007 in Australia and
in Europe on July 13th, 2007. Elite Beat Agents was released under
Nintendo's Touch! Generations label in North America, which markets
games to audiences outside of the traditional gaming community.

The game is simple: as you listen to music, you must hit pallet-shaped
beats with your stylus, just like you would for dance arrows on a
Konami’s DDR dance pad. You are acting as a dance choreographer.

The story is simple: you’re part of a secret federal organization called
the Elite Beat Agents. Your mission is to cheer people up when they’re
down using music and dance. You’re given a briefing before each
mission in a form of comic strip where you get to know what’s going on.
When someone calls for help, in a rather hilarious way, Commander
Kahn dispatches a trio of agents on the spot to save the day.

    --
    1.2 Hard what?
    --
Hard ROCK is the last difficulty level you unlock in the game. To do so,
you must beat Sweatin’ mode, but to get Sweatin’ mode, you must beat
Cruisin’ mode. In other words, to get Hard ROCK, you must complete
Cruisin’ and Sweatin’ modes. In this game, the difficulty is coded as
follow: “Breezin’” (easy), “Cruisin’” (normal), “Sweatin’” (hard) and
“Hard ROCK” (very hard). So if you were wandering what’s the use of
this FAQ, well it’s to guide you to the hardest difficulty level of the game.

Aside from the change of agents, Hard ROCK is similar to Sweatin’ mode
in terms of beat patterns. However, the whole patterns have been flipped
(up to down), mirrored (left to right) and delayed (the beats appears only
a second before you must hit instead of 2 seconds). I hope that clears
    things up.

    --
    1.3 Meet the divas
    --
For this difficulty level, you’ll be playing as the divas, a trio of rancher
-like cheerleaders. Taking the lead at the center is agent Starr, a
blonde lady with a daring attitude, to her left is agent Foxx, a silver
-haired girl who’s using a laptop, and to her right is agent Missy, a
brunette girl with pigtails wearing large glasses. They say they’re the
best agents the organisation have, and they are usually dispatched
when the job is too hard for the boys. Now that you 4 have met, let’s
go to the basis. One more thing, these girls won’t embarrass
themselves by doing some wacky dance moves during the chorus
    of a tune.

    --
    1.4 How does it work?
    --
While you should already know how the game works if you’re this far, let
    me recap the basic elements.

    - Beats
When the tune starts, you’ll see round-shaped beats with numbers on
them. You must hit the beats in the correct order. However, you must hit them
    at the right timing. This timing is shown by a shrinking loop around the beat;
when the loop gets the exact same size as the beat, hit it with your stylus.
If you hit the beats at the right timing, you’ll get a 300, if you are very
    slightly off, you’ll get a 100, if you are off-beat, you’ll get a 50, and if you
miss the beat, you get an X. Beats mostly follow the lyrics of the tunes,
but sometimes it will follow the instruments

As for the numbers, if you get all 300 beats in a sequence, you’ll get an
Elite Beat 300; if you get a single 100 beat, you’ll get a Beat 300; if you get
    a 50 or a miss, you’ll get a Beat 100.

In this FAQ, beats are written as numbers, like 1, 2 and 3.

    - Stacked beats
When you see multiple loops around a single beat, you must hit the beat
that many times, as other beats are hidden underneath.

In this FAQ, stacked beats are written like this: (1/2), numbers separated
    by a slash inside parentheses.

    - Phrase markers
When a beat gets stretched with a long line, you must not only hit the beat,
but you must drag your stylus along the line. A ball will follow the lines and
you must keep the stylus on the ball. If you see curving arrows at the end
of a phrase marker, the ball will bounce back and you must still keep your
stylus on it no matter what.

In this FAQ, phrases markers are written like this: (1----------), and
    bouncing markers like this: (1-----------)(-------------)

    - Spinners
When you see a large wheel and the word SPIN, you must put your touch
screen to the test and spin the wheel with your stylus. You must fill the
meters on the side to the max before the shrinking loop reaches the center.
If you fill the meters before so, you’ll get bonus points. While spinners are
usually present at the end of a tune, you see a few of them during some
    tunes.

In this FAQ, spinners are written like this: (SPIN-----------)

    - Elite-o-meter
That’s the ever-dropping gauge on the top of your touch screen. The more
you hit beats at the right timing, the more it fills. If you’re off beat, the
gauge will drop. If you hit the red zone, the girls will stop dancing and
kneel down a bit to catch their breath. If the gauge is still dropping,
you’ll get a close-up at Starr’s face, meaning “Better get back on track
    or you’re toast.”

    - Combo meter
The more you hit the beats, the more your combo meter increases and the
more you get points. Should you miss a beat, like getting an X, missing a
phrase or spinner, the girls will fall down and the combo meter will reset to
zero. Getting a perfect combo is a key element to an S rank.

    - Sections
The game doesn’t let you play the entire tunes; each is cut into sections
where you get see if your mission is going well or not. When the touch
screen fades out, you’ll see a comic page on the upper screen with the
events. If you have kept the Elite-o-meter in the green, you’ll get a good
cutscene and an O, but if you ended the section in the red zone, you’ll
get a bad cutscene and an X.

In this FAQ, sections are written like this: >>lyric parts that play between
sections<<, *** to split the section. In between sections, the tune will
keep running, if you see lyrics between sections, it indicates that you
    don’t play them.

Now that you’re set, let’s go!

    ===
    2. Agents are… GO!
    ===
Here’s the main part of the FAQ. You can check out all 19 songs in here
with the beats underneath. As you might have guessed, this isn’t a 100%
accurate guide, as some tunes go insanely fast that it’s hard to pinpoint
the beats, but what I have should help you out. As I said before, most
beats follow the lyrics, so I’ve place the numbers under the word to hint
you when you must hit the beat. If the beats don’t seem to follow the
lyrics, that because the beats itself follow the instruments instead, but
by keeping up with the lyrics, you can see where the song is going and what
    kind of pattern to expect.

When you’re ready, hit the OK button after select Hard ROCK, and watch
a cutscene showing the girls in front of a car while a massive garage
door opens. You’ll see a spot with the word HELP on it. Hit it and hit the
    OK button to proceed.

2.16 Episode 16: Mission: No More Music!? The Last Hope!! (Part Two)
Song: “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” by The Rolling Stones
    Difficulty: 8 stars

    Target: Unknown
    Age: Unknown
    Sex: Unknown
    Misc. Info: N/A
    Situation:
Following the last cutscene at the end of the last mission, the divas get
turned into stone by the Rhombulan eye beam and that in front of everybody.
Everyone then starts crying over the death of the divas. However, Lucy keeps
her head up and starts clapping her hands while saying “E… B… A…” The
others soon get the idea and starts cheering the divas. As the cheering gets
louder, the divas’ statues start to crack and not before long, the divas burst
open the statues and are ready to dance. (Note: this tune goes way fast, so
the beats do not follow entirely the lyrics.)
