    =INTRODUCTION=========================================================/mmsf0=
    =============================================================================
In Dragon Quest IX a few select enemies drop seeds. These seeds permanently
increase one statistic for the vocation they are used on. These statistic
increases remain on that vocation permanently, even after revocation. If one
puts the time and effort into gathering enough seeds it is possible to make
every single statistic for your vocation the maximum value of 999. You can
apply seeds of defence to your sage so that it can take hits like a paladin
or you can apply seeds of strength to your priest so it can hit like a
    gladiator.

This sounds great, however the part that is not great is that seeds drop at a
rate of 1/256. On top of that, seeds increase the base stat by a very small
amount so you need a lot of them to get the desired results. This is where
    the map method comes in.

    =============================================================================
    =WHAT IS THE MAP METHOD?==============================================/mmsf1=
    =============================================================================
Without getting into too much detail, the map method allows you to set a
series of events in motion which will result in you getting a seed from every
single encounter. When you display your list of treasure maps, the last map
displayed on the screen starts a series of events. If the correct sequence
is followed precisely then after the fight you will get a seed. The series
of events is different depending on which map is displayed in the last spot
on your list. Also it is possible that more than one series of events can
    lead to the same result.

In order to keep things simple I am going to detail only one sequence using
only one map. The map I will use is Granite Tunnel of Woe Lv. 1 which is the
map that everyone gets as a reward for completing the quest from the injured
man just outside Zere Rocks. The Japanese nickname for this map is Usugura
so from now on I will use that term when referring to this map.

The Usugura map will need to be the map that is listed at the bottom of the
page whenever I give the instructions to open your map menu. It does not
matter which page it appears last on, it can be last on the first page or on
the last page or any page in between so long as the page it is on it is last.
The easy way to make this happen is to tag someone with the map over and over
until you have enough copies of the map to fill an entire page. That way no
matter what it will always be last on at least one page. If you can not tag
anyone then complete the map so that it is listed after all incomplete maps
and then then obtain new incomplete maps until your Usugura map is listed as
last on the page. In order to make sure that when you open the map menu that
the correct page is listed, activate your Usugura map before you begin seed
hunting by choosing to go treasure hunting using your Usugura map.

Once you have your Usugura map listed as last on the page and your have it
activated you are ready to begin hunting your seed of choice. Just be aware
that the timing on each of these is crucial and difficult to master. If you
do not get the desired results immediately keep trying and before long you
will have it down. Even when you have the pattern well rehearsed sometimes
the process is just fickle and will not work. Even with that in mind, using
the map method is far faster than doing things the old fashioned way.

Your characters must first be strong enough so that the prescribed attack
will kill the monster in question in a single hit. One way to help with this
is to use a fource ability. The fource abilities are similar to using defend
in that they do not affect the overall result. Another way to increase your
damage is to farm seeds of strength first. Seeds of strength drop from a
very weak enemy, the brownie, which is guaranteed to die in one hit early in
the game. On a similar subject, I recommend seed of deftness to be last as
high levels of deftness seem to somehow mess with the procedure. Instead of
farming seeds of deftness last you could just change to a different vocation
with a lower deftness to continue farming.

One additional note, the instructions will require that your party members
perform their actions in a specific order. It is up to you to make them act
in that order. You can do this in one of several ways:
-Choose a vocation with higher or lower agility
    -Equip items that raise agility
-Use weapons that allow you to instantly go first

    Ally 2-No requirements.
    Ally 3-No requirements.
One character must be level 99 and holding the Thief's Theory book.

To begin, go to the light bridge West of Wormwood Creek.

    Procedure:
1)Leave the light bridge on the side that leads to Upover.
2)Immediately open and close the treasure map menu.
3)Run diagonally down/left and engage the moosifer.

    In Battle:
-If there is only one moosifer-
    Hero-Boulder Toss

stop just outside the yurt closest to the entrance.

    Procedure:
    1)Enter the yurt.
2)Immediately and as quickly as you can open and close the treasure map menu.
3)Immediately run upwards towards the stairs with the desk at the top. You
will see a sorceror spawn as you are running up, but you should pass
through him without entering the battle.
4)Continue going up and get to the top of the stairs but stop just slightly
      before touching the desk.
5)Walk straight down. This time when you touch him it will engage and start
      the battle sequence.

    =SEED OF STRENGTH=====================================================/mmsf4=
    =============================================================================
    Dropped by Brownie
    Easy Timing
    Very High Success Rate

    Party Configuration:
Hero-Must attack first, must know the move Clap Trap
    Ally 1-Must know Wolf Whistle
Ally 2-Must know Twin Dragon Lash, equip a whip
    Ally 3-No requirements
One character must be level 99 and holding the Thief's Theory book.

To begin, zoom to Zere and walk inside the city.

    Procedure:
    -During the Day-
    1)Leave Zere
2)Immediately turn up and open up the treasure map menu. The fastest way to
do this is to hold up while the screen is black, then as you appear outside
Zere press X, X, up, X. This must be done very quickly. Your character
must be facing upwards when the menu opens. If done perfectly you will
turn to face upwards without taking any steps up.
3)Immediately exit the treasure map menu.
4)Walk directly left until you are above and slightly to the right of the
ragged reaper (it will get an ! above its head).
5)Walk directly right until you are over the brownie then engage it.

    -During the Night-
    1)Leave Zere
2)Walk right a step or so until your character is about even with the wood
      post.
3)Press X, X while still holding to the right (this opens the items menu).
4)Release right, press up one time and release, then press X again. This
must be done quickly but not nearly as quickly as during the day.
5)Immediately exit the treasure map menu.
6)Walk left until shortly after you pass above the boppin badger. The boppin
badger should be spawning as you run towards him. If he has already
spawned and is just sitting there when you see him then you messed up steps
3 and 4 so start over.
7)Angle upwards to go diagonally up/left until you are about even with the
      brownie that appears above you.
    8)Engage the brownie.

    In Battle:
-If there is only one brownie-
    Hero-Defend
    Ally 1-Defend
    Ally 2-Twin Dragon Lash
    Ally 3-Defend

    =============================================================================
    Dropped by White Tigertaur
    Easy Timing
    High Success Rate

This seed is different from all of the others because you need a second map
in order to perform the procedure. The name and contents of the second map
are not important, but it must be located on the Cringle Coast just a bit to
the south west of the little peninsula where the thinkinscence spawns. The
reason you need this map is because you will be using it as the "walk in walk
out" point. This means that the map will need to be activated instead of the
    usual Usugura map being activated.

Since we need Usugura listed as the last map on the page we open and since
the treasure map screen always opens to the page that the currently activated
map is on, the second map must be listed on the same page that Usugura is
listed on but Usugura must be the last one on the page! The second map can
be anywhere else on the page as long as Usugura is last.

    Party Configuration:
Hero-Must go first, must equip Magma Staff
Ally 1-Must be equipped with a hammer, must have the book Hardcore Hammering
           in inventory.
    Ally 2-No Requirements
    Ally 3-No Requirements
One character must be level 99 and holding the Thief's Theory book.
Hardcore Hammering grants Ally 1 the Big Banga ability.

To begin, activate the treasure map at the correct location on Cringle Coast.
Go to the grotto entrance and enter. Again, your Usugura map must be on the
same page as this other grotto and last on the list.

    Procedure:
    1)Exit the grotto.
2)Quickly turn left and while still holding left press X, X to open the item
menu. If done correctly you will be facing left but will not have actually
taken any steps in that direction.
3)Release left then tap up once then press X again to open the treasure map
      menu.
4)Run left until you are directly above the white tigertaur then stop.
5)Wait for the white tigertaur to get an exclamation mark and run down into
      the wall.
6)Run down and engage the white tigertaur.

    In Battle:
    -In all cases-
Hero-Use Magma Staff as an item
    Ally 1-Use Big Banga
    Ally 2-Defend
    Ally 3-Defend

    Dropped by Cumulus Vex
    Hard Timing
    Low Success Rate

There is a rough process available on Japanese boards that has very little
chance of success but I will not be testing it or ever trying it because when
it comes down to it the Magical Might stat just isn't needed. Here is a copy
and paste of a rough translation from GameFAQs user yab:

    POP stability: normal
    Drop stability: bad
    Procedure difficulty: difficult
    Hourly rate: 10-30

    Preparation:
    Ally 1-3 Gladiator 99
    Main with falcon knife earrings
    Ally 1 unarmed
    Ally 2 uber falcon blade
    Ally 3 strongest bow
Whoever holds Thief's Theory is OK.
Usugura lowest on a page of maps

    POP procedure:
    1. In Realm of the Mighty go right of the front entrance (neighboring hill)
and exit (when the screen blacks out, press left)
    2. Walk to the left, to the left of the front entrance in front of the fire,
open/close map screen, see below. * is where the main character is. (After
pressing b it will black out, press down/left)

    PFGGFP
    _*____
    (P = pillar, F = fire, G = gate, * = where you should be)

Exit from lower left, touch a cumulus vex and fight him (keep lower left
    pressed down and touch him)

    Battle procedure:
    -single (non-preemptive)
    Defend -> Multifists (2 hits) -> Defend -> Defend
30-40% seed drop or steal. Many times it'll be a thunderball. 4 time .. ?
    -1 companion (non-preemptive)
    attack (1 hit) -> defend -> clap trap (1 hit) -> defend
Companion should be targeted first. 20-30% drop or steal. Many times,
companion will rare or double drop.
    -2 companions (non-preemptive)
mercy -> defend -> defend -> rain of pain (2 hits)
30-40% seed drop or steal. Many times it'll be a thunderball.

    Notes:
    * If main character's strength is maxed out, if there is one enemy companion,
main should use Have a Ball for 20-40% chance of getting a seed.
    * Don't care about preemptive attack since the chance is low. The same
      procedure will fail.
    * This POP & touch procedure, this area is limited.

rare drop of the third enemy which may or may not be a wight king. Note that
the use of Fire Fource is only to increase damage to make sure all of the
    monsters die in one hit.

    Dropped by Whirly Girly
    Medium Timing
    Low Success Rate

One character must be level 99 and holding the Thief's Theory book.

To begin, go to the light bridge West of Wormwood Creek.

    Procedure:
1)Leave the light bridge on the side that leads to Upover.
2)Walk up about one step until you are standing at the upper corner of the
square tile on the ground with a dragon's head on it.
3)While still holding Up, press X, X to open the items menu.
4)Release Up and tap Up again then press X to open the treasure map menu.
5)Press B immediately to exit the map menu. Steps 2-5 must be done very
quickly even in comparison to other seed farming methods.
6)Run diagonally down/left until you see a whirly girly spawning at the edge
of the forest. If it has already spawned and is just standing there then
you took too long and need to try again.
7)If you see the whirly girly still in her spawning animation then run at her
and engage. The final direction you should be running in when you touch
her should be left or diagonally down/left.
