First, play out the game. You'll unlock evolution when you
reach a certain point story-wise.

Second, keep playing after that. You're probably wondering
how do you evolve those. There's more story to go through.

A while ago, my message board name was Lee Eric Kirwan. Now,
the GameFAQs Username Reconciliation took place, and it now
matches my contributor name, FatRatKnight. This is for all
those who were familiar with my old board name.
Hello, I hope there will be less confusion in the future.

This FAQ covers evolution. That which takes place in the
game, in particular. When can it happen, what you get from
it, the pitfalls, all that neat stuff.

Thankfully, most information that applies to Sky regarding
evolution can equally work for Time/Darkness as well. Not
much changed between the two, but there exists differences.
Small differences, but not enough to split the whole FAQ up
for it.

In order to evolve any Pokemon, the following must be met:
 - Completed Mystifying Forest
 - Specific requirements for Pokemon reached (level, item, IQ, etc.)

Your two starters need a little more, however:
 - Unlock Marine Resort (Keep playing after beating Dark Crater)
 - [Time/Darkness versions only] Recruited Palkia

Before you can evolve anything, you must complete a certain
dungeon. This dungeon takes place after the credits, so you
must have beaten the final chapter (20) and then some.

The place to beat is Mystifying Forest. Luckily, this is the
next dungeon that shows up after you see the credits, so you
don't have to wait long. Once beaten, you can evolve most
Pokemon...

... Except for your starters. The random ones you recruit
can evolve just fine, but not the two you start the game as.
For these two, you need to have unlocked Marine Resort.
In Time/Darkness, you also need to recruit Palkia. Whatever
the version, the whole game is just about done by then.

When you complete Mystifying Forest, you'll unlock Luminous
Spring, the place you'll visit often for your evolution
needs. A new bit of text shows up in the Summary screen for
each Pokemon. In the last page, right under Size, you'll see
Evolution. What do they mean?

  ==> Evolution: Possible now
Whatever the requirements are, they are fulfilled. You can,
whenever you feel like, visit Luminous Spring to evolve the
Pokemon. It does not need to be in your party. All Pokemon
who can evolve now will appear in the list when you select
Evolve at Luminous Spring.

  ==> Evolution: Not possible now
The Pokemon can evolve, but hasn't reached the requirements
yet. Figure out what you're missing! What they could be
missing might well be levels, items, IQ, or even something
unusual like knowing the right move or having another
Pokemon.

  ==> Evolution: No further
The Pokemon can't evolve, for there is no evolving to be
done. The same text is used whether the Pokemon has reached
its top form or the Pokemon has only one form. In any case,
don't bother trying to evolve it.

Your two starters, however, will likely have it say that
it's not possible now. It's going to look like that for a
long time. You need to beat all the stuff that shows up
after the credits, finally finishing Dark Crater then do
more random jobs until Marine Resort gets automatically
added to the list of available dungeons.

Once that's done, players with Explorers of Sky can go ahead
and evolve their two starters now.

Those with Explorers of Time/Darkness aren't done, however.
They need to dive back into Spatial Rift and recruit Palkia,
as an extra requirement. This can be done anytime after you
complete Dark Crater. But remember, Time/Darkness needs both
Palkia and Marine Resort if you want your two starters to
evolve.

 3 -O-*O*-O-*O*-O-*O*-O-*O* EFFECTS OF EVOLUTION *O*-O-*O*-O-*O*-O-*O*-O-*O*
*|*****|*****|*****|*****|***************************|*****|*****|*****[wht13]*

Upon evolving, your Pokemon takes on the parameters of the
new form.

Basically, what it will get from evolving:
 - How it looks, classification in Summary, etc.
 - EXP is reset to lowest possible for current level
 - A set boost to stats
 - New types. Usually, the evolved form has the same types.
 - New mobility, though most are the same anyway.
 - New list of learnable moves, some are actually different.
 - A chance to be nicknamed, if not named already.

However, there are some things that are kept:
 - Level
 - Stats (with a set boost)
 - Current moveset
 - List of moves to be remembered
 - IQ
 - Nickname, if there is one

The boost to stats are a set amount, as follows:
  +5 Attack +5 Defense +10 Max HP
  +5 Sp.Atk +5 Sp.Def

Whatever the stats were before evolving, your new stats are
boosted by the above. It does not care what the evolved
form's stats would be at that level, it just cares about
what stats you have at this moment, and boost it by the set
amounts as above.

3.1 -------------------------------- Moves -----------------------------<31fgt>

When you evolve is important, as at Electivire's Link Shop,
you can remember moves that a previous form can learn by
level up, as long as said previous form was a high enough
level when it evolved.

For example, suppose you have a Growlithe. You decide to get
Agility (Lv 39) before evolving. Cool, Growlithe now has the
move so evolve away! Now you have an Arcanine, who knows
Agility! Now on your way through the next dungeon, you
realize you shouldn't have replaced that Ember. Now what?

Because Arcanine was at least level 6 upon evolving, you
can just stroll over to Elecivire's Link Shop to remember
Ember. While it is true that Arcanine can't learn Ember,
a Growlithe can at level 6, and you evolved this Growlithe
at level 39, so Ember, along with many moves, is available.

Then you read up on this awesome move called Heat Wave,
which Growlithe would have learned at level 45. You level up
Arcanine to 45 and hope to... Nope. Not there. What about
Electivire? Nope, not there either. You level up to 100 and
still no Heat Wave. Oh dear, seems you evolved the Arcanine
too early, and locked yourself out of Heat Wave...

This is a problem you crash into by evolving too early.

The reverse, evolving too late, is not a problem. No matter
how late you evolve, you can always remember all earlier
moves of the evolved form, below or at the level you evolved
at. Drop by Electivire's Link Shop and take a look at all
the new moves of the evolved form!

Let's take Slakoth. Let's say you want to evolve to Vigoroth
and stay there, because you don't like Slaking's ability,
Traunt. But first, let's grab all of Slakoth's moves. At
level 43, you finally get Flail, then you evolve.

But you know, it really would have helped if you got Slash
on that Vigoroth. Vigoroth learns Slash at level 31, but you
evolved Slakoth at level 43. Thankfully, the only thing you
need to do is stroll over to Electivire and ask to remember
some moves. And yep, there's Slash alright!

There is no "too late," evolve at level 100 if you wish.

In short, try to level up enough to cover all the level up
moves that the earlier form can learn that the later ones
won't. This way, you'll have a wider range of moves that can
be remembered at any time.

And don't worry about leveling up too much before evolving.
You can't lock yourself out of any moves by waiting too long
by the time you finally feel like evolving.

3.2 ------------------------------ Nicknames ---------------------------<32eep>

Should a Pokemon have no special nickname, then upon
evolution, you will be prompted to give the Pokemon a new
name. This will happen if the "nickname" is the same as the
form of whatever the Pokemon is. A Bulbasaur with the
displayed name "Bulbasaur" will be prompted for a name when
it evolves.

This is true even for the main Pokemon that you play as. If
you go through the starter quiz and name yourself whatever
you ended up as, you are given a chance to rename yourself
when you evolve.

If the Pokemon does have a special nickname already, even
something like "Joe" or "WTF, man?", those names stick,
whether you want them to or not. You're not prompted when
evolving in this case, so if you don't like the name, your
best choice is to get rid of the Pokemon. In the case of
your two starters, restarting the game is your only choice.

Shedinja is a unique case. When you evolve Nincada, Shedinja
just appears in Chimecho's Assembly, without any special
name. Select this Pokemon, and the option to rename it is
there. You can select it only once, however. Why this option
isn't there for everything else is anyone's guess.

There is also a glitch, in the USA Explorers of Sky games.

Having a nickname with 10 symbols has been reported to crash
the game on any attempt at evolving. Your named Bulbasaur
"Mr. Saurus", for example, has 8 letters, a punctuation, and
a space, which is 10 symbols, and would crash the game at
any attempts at evolving this Bulbasaur. And you can't fix
the nickname before evolving, sorry.

Worse, there are Pokemon whose forms are 10 letters in
length. Thus, if you're in a habit of not naming things,
then watch out for the following:

    #004 Charmander #005 Charmeleon
    #039 Jigglypuff #069 Bellsprout
    #070 Weepinbell #125 Electabuzz
    #200 Misdreavus #449 Hippopotas

If you don't name these Pokemon, there's a good chance you
won't be able to evolve them to their next form, because
their default names are 10 letters long.

This only exists in some USA versions of Sky. All copies
from Japan and Europe do not have this glitch. This freeze
did not exist for Time and Darkness versions. Again, if you
live in the USA, and have Explorers of Sky, there's a fair
chance you have this evil glitch.

It's easy enough to tell if you have a glitched game. Go
find a Caterpie or Weedle in Apple Woods, give it a 10
letter name, then evolve it as soon as possible. If it
freezes, limit your names to 9 symbols if you plan to evolve
your Pokemon someday.

... Of course, you can't tell until after you can evolve
things, where you must see the credits and finally beat
Mystifying Forest before you can know your game is glitched.

There is a code for the Action Replay which gets around this
freeze. It does so by skipping nickname reads at Luminous
Spring. If you have an Action Replay for the DS, try out the
following code!

3.3 ----------------------------- Other Stuff --------------------------<33hmm>

There's not a lot to say about the other stuff that I listed
at the top of this section. Moves and nicknames are the two
major important things that need explanation.

There's visual changes in the Pokemon, naturally. When the
Pokemon evolves, it looks different, gets a different
animation, and its classification in the Summary is also
different. All this is visual, but sometimes it gives a
clue that your Butterfree can hover around where that
Metapod couldn't.

For stats, it gains a set boost. I already mentioned that it
gives +10 max HP and +5 other stats on the spot, whatever
the old stats may be. However, the EXP is reset to the
lowest possible amount while still keeping the Pokemon at
the same level.

Some evolutions change type, like when you evolve an Eevee.
Some change body size, such as Mantyke to Mantine.
Some give different mobility, and Kakuna to Beedrill is one.

And if nothing else, remember that you can save before you
evolve anything, and if you try it out and find you don't
like it, you can reset and load your saved game.

On a final note, evolving your starters will change their
waking up animation with each game day. Specifically, they
will look as though they are walking in place rather than
waking up. This hardly looks appealing, but it's simply a
visual change.

Some advance warning on the following evolutions:

| 063 Abra       [Hover] -> 064 Kadabra    [Usual] | Loss of

| 355 Duskull    [Ghost] -> 356 Dusclops   [Usual] |
+--------------------------------------------------+

Of note, Dusknoir has ghost-like mobility, so one can go
Duskull -> Dusclops -> Dusknoir and enjoy the "walk through
walls" stuff again.

Also notable, Swablu and Altaria learns an IQ Skill known as
All-Terrain Hiker. This gives [Hover] mobility to the
Pokemon with this IQ Skill, meaning the evolution to Altaria
wouldn't reduce mobility at all, with enough gummis.

 4 -O-*O*-O-*O*-O-*O*-O-*O* REQUIREMENTS *O*-O-*O*-O-*O*-O-*O*-O-*O*

There are six different requirements to evolution:
- Reached a certain level 171 evolutions
- Have the right item_______ 57 evolutions
- Get high enough IQ 14 evolutions
- Know the right move_______ 7 evolutions
- Be the right gender 5 evolutions
- Recruited a Remoraid______ 1 evolution

There is no location-based, time-based, trade-based, Feebas'
Beauty-based, or happiness-based evolution in the Mystery
Dungeon series. Those mechanics simply don't exist here.

Instead of location, time, trade, or beauty, they are in
item form, like Coronet Stone, Lunar Ribbon, Link Cable, or
Beauty Scarf.

Instead of happiness, the game uses IQ to see if it's ready.

For levels, just level up. Not high enough? Level up more!

For items, Kecleon shops in certain dungeons have most of
them. There are three items not found in them, but are found
in high-rank jobs or Golden Chambers. A few might even be
found in boxes dropped by enemy Pokemon.

For IQ, eat those gummis already! Usually 2-star is needed.

For the right move, it usually involves leveling up to get
the move anyway. If you forget it, Electivire's Link Shop
can help you remember it.

For the right gender, search odd floors for male and even
floors for female. Recruits from jobs and Spinda's Cafe tend
to be randomly male or female, however. All gender-based
evolution is paired with some other requirement.

Mantyke needs a Remoraid to evolve. Just have one recruited
and existing in your list of recruited Pokemon.

| ### Pre-evo    -> ### Post-evo   | Lv.| Notes

There are 171 evolutions that require a high enough level.
The most straight-forward evolution requirement!

Simply be a high enough level, and the Pokemon can evolve.
Usually, there's no strings attached. It's just pure level!

Basically, enter some dungeon, beat stuff up, and get EXP.
How you beat stuff up and where you beat them up may give
EXP at different speeds. Somewhere like Beach Cave has foes
who give virtually no EXP, and Zero Isle gives literally no
EXP. Other than that, later dungeons tend to give more EXP
than earlier dungeons.

Also, depending on how you defeat them, each enemy also
give varying EXP. As follows:
0% - Defeated by an effect that didn't come from your team
50% - Regular attacks or items only
100% - Hit with a move at least once
150% - Hit with linked move at least once

An enemy that uses a move on itself, like Defense Curl, is
counted as an enemy that is hit with a move at least once,
and will give 100% EXP, even if you only use regular attacks
to defeat it. It is not necessary to defeat a foe with a
move to get the full EXP, just hit once with a move!

Also, each member of your current team will get full EXP, no
matter how many Pokemon. If that foe gives 100 EXP to your
solo Lucario, it will also give 100 EXP to each Pokemon in
a team of four.

There's also items to hold that boosts EXP, and even a late
IQ Skill can do so as well. They are handy to have.

An alternative is to eat a Joy Seed (+1 level) or a Golden
Seed (+5 levels), but they are particularly rare.

There are 9 evolutions that should be noted for having
something unusual about them...

Tyrogue has 3 different evolutions. They depend on what his
stats are. In particular, whether his Attack is greater than
his Defense.

If Attack is higher than Defense, Tyrogue becomes Hitmonlee.
If Attack is lower than Defense, Tyrogue becomes Hitmonchan.
If the two stats are equal, then Tyrogue becomes Hitmontop.

If you're having some trouble, recall that Protein raises
Attack by 3 and Iron raises Defense by 3. If that's not good
enough, you can also try gummis for some chance of raising
one of these stats by 1. Be patient, it'll work eventually!

Wurmple has 2 different evolutions. Which one the game
chooses is determined long before you attempt the evolution,
so don't bother resetting hoping it changes. It's
unfortunate, since you can't tell what Wurmple will become
when you first get one. Hope the next one works out...

When Nincada evolves, you'll see the usual animation where
Ninjask hovers where Nincada once stood. But take a look in
Chimecho's Assembly, and what a surprise, a Shedinja sits in
there quite suddenly! There will be an extra option that
allows you to name the newcomer Shedinja, but only once.

This Shedinja has the same stats and moves as the Nincada
prior to evolution. That's right, no +10 HP or +5 stats.
You may want to boost Nincada's stats a bit prior to
evolving. Shedinja also follows the usual rules about
remembering the previous form's moves.

Burmy evolves to Wormadam or Mothim depending on gender.
Female for Wormadam, and male for Mothim.

Combee only evolves if its gender is female. Male Combee
will never evolve.

+----------------------------------+--------------+--------------+

There are 57 evolutions that require items in some form.

You just need to have the item. It doesn't matter if it's in
your bag or in the storage at the time, you can evolve
whenever you feel like, as long as you have it. The item is
used up and disappears upon evolution, so you'll need
replacements if you're not done with the item.

However, some evolutions may take 2 items. That's fine, just
have both items somewhere in your bag or storage. And yet
other item-based evolutions use IQ as another requirement.
Simply have the appropriate item and feed enough gummis to
meet both. Dawn Stone needs the right gender, so check that
as well.

Certain Kecleon shops have evolution items. They hold nearly
all evolution items, and these shops are a decent source of
these items. They tend to be pricey -- all of them cost
1000, or 800 for a leader with Haggler.

These shops also come in two flavors:

In addition, there are three items that can be found from
jobs. They are as follows:

| Not in shops | Find where? |
+--------------+----------------+
| Sun Ribbon | Golden Chamber | Happiny, Eevee, Budew, and Riolu
| Lunar Ribbon | 5* ~ 9* jobs | Eevee, Chingling, Sneasel, and Gligar
| Beauty Scarf | 5* ~ 9* jobs   | For evolution of Feebas -> Milotic
+--------------+----------------+

Beauty Scarf and Lunar Ribbon can be found from the random
jobs at the guild. Any missions ranked at 5* or above may
randomly select these two items. The chances for each are
as follows:

|Rank|Lunar Ribbon|Beauty Scarf|
+----+------------+------------+
| 5* | 1.6680% | 1.6680% | Yes, their chances are
| 6* | 2.0850% | 2.0850% | identical. I'd rather
| 7* | 2.0850% | 2.0850% | not mess up telling you
| 8* | 2.0850% | 2.0850% | that in words. Tables
| 9* | 2.6775% | 2.6775% | ensure I don't fail.
+----+------------+------------+

As for Sun Ribbon, find a mission that talks about a Golden
Chamber. You will need to escort a client to the destination
floor, but the floor will, amazingly enough, be replaced by
a gold sparkly chamber.

In this chamber are two Deluxe Boxes containing gold items.
Among the possible items is a Sun Ribbon. As it's blocked
off by water, you will need a Pokemon that can travel over
water, or items that can remove water or grant mobility.

On a final note, it is possible to find some of these items
from the random boxes that enemy Pokemon may drop. But other
than the fact I found an Electirizer from one box, I have no
further information.

+----------------------------------+--------+--------------+

There are 14 evolutions that require a high enough IQ.

The Pokemon here needs 2.0-star IQ if they don't need an
item, or 1.0-star if they need a Sun/Lunar Ribbon. It's
actually closer to 2.5-star or 1.5-star, but technically,
it's the high-end of 2.0-star or 1.0-star.

IQv is what I call a hidden number. It starts at 1 and maxes
out at 999. You get a rough idea of how much IQv you have
by looking at the stars.

If you need IQ, you use Gummis. Each Gummi gives 1~5 IQv
depending on how effective it is. Think of the Gummi having
an attack type, and you're "attacking" the Pokemon with it.
The more effective the "attack" would be, the higher the
boost.

If the Pokemon has two types, then "attack" both types
separately and ignore the weaker boost. Sure, Ground attacks
are nearly useless against Golbat's Flying-type, but being
super-effective versus Poison-types, a Brown Gummi is still
a good choice. This makes Pokemon with two types easier to
boost with gummis.

A few examples:
+ 1 Purple Gummi to Cleffa
+ 2 Black Gummi to Riolu
+ 3 Sky Gummi to Munchlax
+ 4 Brown Gummi to Pichu
+ 5 Gold Gummi to Chingling

There are also a few other things that provide more IQ. A
Wonder Gummi gives +15 IQv. Nectar gives +10. An IQ Booster
at certain floors gives +1. And certain good drinks at
Spinda's Cafe provide various small boosts, perhaps 2 or 3.

While you may hit 1.0-star or 2.0-star, you might not yet
have enough IQv. In fact, it's as low as 60 for 1.0-star or
160 for 2.0-star. It means that just because your Buneary
has IQ ** doesn't mean it's ready yet.

Here are the ranges of possible IQv for each:
  1.0-star * = 60~109 IQv 2.0-star ** = 160~209 IQv

Because 100 IQv is so close to 110 IQv, and 200 is so close
to 210 IQv, it's almost like you need an extra half-star.
While the requirements are indeed 1.0-star and 2.0-star,
it's almost like the real spots are 1.5-star and 2.5-star.

As far as IQ Skills go, Riolu and Budew learns Brick Tough,
which happens right at 100 IQv. If they have this IQ Skill,
then they definitely have enough IQ to evolve. All other
Pokemon will have to guess when they're ready. Or get that
extra half-star, since it's so close anyway.

4.4 -------------------------------- Moves -----------------------------<44act>

| ### Pre-evo    -> ### Post-evo   | Move name    : Learned? |
+----------------------------------+-------------------------+
| 439 Mime Jr.   -> 122 Mr. Mime   | Mimic        : Level 18 |
| 438 Bonsly     -> 185 Sudowoodo  | Mimic        : Level 17 |
| 190 Aipom      -> 424 Ambipom    | Double Hit   : Level 32 |
| 108 Lickitung  -> 463 Lickilicky | Rollout      : Level 33 |
|_114_Tangela____->_465_Tangrowth__|_AncientPower_:_Level_33_|
| 193 Yanma      -> 469 Yanmega    | AncientPower : Level 33 |
| 221 Piloswine  -> 473 Mamoswine  | AncientPower : Remember |
+----------------------------------+-------------------------+

There are 7 evolutions that require knowing the right move.

Because learning the move requires a high enough level, it's
almost like a level-up requirement. Though, I suppose one
can eat Doom Seeds after getting the move if you want to
see how the game reacts.

If, for any reason, you don't learn the required move and
you are beyond the level, you can go to Electivire's Link
Shop to remember the lost move. Then you can evolve with no
problems.

If you evolved Swinub into Piloswine, you will need to visit
Electivire's Link Shop and ask to remember AncientPower.
This can be done at any time you wish, as the level needed
for Piloswine to learn AncientPower is 1. Wild Piloswine
could have the move already known, but if not, a trip to
Electivire can fix that real easy.

While Electivire mentions the price of 500 ($), selecting
"Proceed" will not charge you this price then and there. In
fact, you are only charged when you actually link moves.
Remembering moves are completely free.

4.5 ------------------------------- Gender -----------------------------<45ahh>

| ### Pre-evo    -> ### Post-evo   | Gender | Requirement |
+----------------------------------+--------+-------------+
| 412 Burmy      -> 413 Wormadam   | Female | Level 20    |
| 412 Burmy      -> 414 Mothim     | Male   | Level 20    |
| 415 Combee     -> 416 Vespiquen  | Female | Level 21    |
| 281 Kirlia     -> 475 Gallade    | Male   | Dawn Stone  |
| 361 Snorunt    -> 478 Froslass   | Female | Dawn Stone  |
+----------------------------------+--------+-------------+

There are 5 evolutions that require a specific gender. All
five of them have a secondary requirement.

If you're having trouble finding a Pokemon of the right
gender, I advise searching odd-numbered floors for male
Pokemon and even-numbered floors for female.

Of note, this does *NOT* restrict the usual evolution by
level for Kirlia -> Gardevoir or Snorunt -> Glalie. If you
have a male Kirlia, you can pick either the level evolution
or the Dawn Stone evolution, as an example. Nothing is
stopping you from having male Gardevoir or female Glalie.

4.6 --------------------------- Another Pokemon ------------------------<46pkm>

| ### Pre-evo    -> ### Post-evo   | Detail
+----------------------------------+
| 458 Mantyke    -> 226 Mantine    | Must have Remoraid
+----------------------------------+

There is 1 evolution that requires having another Pokemon.

Seeing as there's only one Pokemon that evolves under this
sort of requirement, I'll mention where to find Mantyke.
They appear in Miracle Sea. Reason I'm mentioning this is
because it's kind of difficult to evolve a Mantyke if you
don't have one to begin with.

As for actually evolving a Mantyke, you need to have a
Remoraid in the list of Pokemon seen in Chimecho's Assembly.
Just having one is enough, and it does not matter whether
one is in your current party. As long as you have a
Remoraid, evolution of Mantyke is possible.

Remoraid can be found in Surrounded Sea, Miracle Sea, or
Bottomless Sea. If you are having trouble finding one, I
would suggest going through one of these places a few times
and hope you are successful.

But should you lose the Remoraid, evolution would become
unavailable again. And there are two ways to lose this
Remoraid: Say "farewell" to it at Chimecho's Assembly, or
evolve it to Octillery, and thus is no longer a Remoraid
to help with your evolution requirements.

Unlike actual items, Remoraid won't vanish when you evolve
Mantyke. Besides, Remoraid isn't an item!

+------------------+------------------+------------------+

There are 75 of these Pokemon.

These are all the Pokemon that don't evolve into something
else and there are no Pokemon that evolves into them. Don't
bother looking.

Because of this, and the fact that this is an Evolution FAQ,
there isn't much I can say about them.

I talk about the requirements, but maybe that isn't enough.
I list out every evolution line here. I also mention when
moves are finished being learned so you can decide when you
want to evolve.

Especially the moves. Those can be lost forever if you
evolve some Pokemon too early. Others may learn them merely
a few levels later, and yet some others have no reason to
wait, other than to keep their cute looks.

While I did add search tags, putting an index of them here
is unwieldy, considering I have 246 of them. You're better
off browsing the list yourself or ctrl+F the Pokemon's name.
I left the tags in so if you look on the right side, you
have some clue at what you're looking at.

then to allow Scizor to remember those few moves.

+----------------+====================================================<127Pins>

Lv.30 - Magikarp learns the third and final move...
Lv.47 - Gyarados finishes learning moves

All three of Magikarp's level-up moves do not show up in
Gyarados' list of moves. Wait until level 30 if you want
Gyarados to remember all three of those moves.

Gyarados is size 4, while Magikarp is 1. Keep in mind that
this evolution will greatly limit who you can bring on your
next trip.

Gyarados hovers, while Magikarp can travel over water.
It may be helpful to evolve to gain this mobility.

     +----------------+--------------+
Lv.57 : Lv.57 - Eevee finishes learning moves
Lv.71 : Lv.78 - All Eevee's evolutions finish learning moves

Eevee learns a number of moves that none of its evolutions
get. I suggest waiting until level 57 so that Eevee's list
of moves can be remembered by any of the 'eons.

When Eevee learns Type-Advantage Master (105 IQv), evolution
to Espeon or Umbreon is likely possible even before you fed
that last gummi, as you only need 100 IQv. Don't forget the
needed Sun Ribbon or Lunar Ribbon, however.

Of note, Vaporeon can travel on the relatively common water,
while Flareon can safely walk on the rather rare lava. All
others have usual mobility.

Of note, Tyrogue naturally knows moves that his evolutions
will never get. Directly recruited, his evolutions won't
have Tyrogue's naturally known moves.

While Tyrogue can always evolve at level 20, keep in mind
that he will evolve into one of three Pokemon depending on
his stats. In particular, which one of Attack or Defense is
higher, or are they equal.

If you're having trouble getting the right stats you need,

In Sky, Wurmple learns Bug Bite at level 15, which the later
forms don't learn. Level up to 15 before evolving!

Time/Darkness won't get Bug Bite. Evolve whenever you want.

The evolution of Wurmple -> Silcoon or Wurmple -> Cascoon is
randomly determined, long before you attempt evolution. You
can't control this -- The only way to get one or the other
is to recruit a new Wurmple and hope it evolves the way you
want.

Beautifly and Dustox hovers, unlike ealier forms. It may be
helpful to evolve to gain this mobility. Then again, there's

if you somehow reached the maximum limit. The option to
rename Shedinja appears when you select it, but you can only
rename Shedinja once.

Nincada learns moves the other forms can't. The last of
these are learned at level 45. Wait until then to let the
other two remember all of Nincada's moves.

Ninjask hovers. Shedinja has ghost-like mobility. Nincada
has none of this. It may be helpful to evolve to gain such
mobility.

Lv. 2 - Roserade won't learn much by level...

Wait until Budew hits level 16 and Roselia hits level 46.
Budew learns moves Roselia can't, and they both can learn
moves that Roserade would otherwise never get. Doing both
will let Roserade remember all earlier forms' moves.

When Budew learns Brick Tough (100 IQv), it's ready for
evolution. Just have a Sun Ribbon handy to evolve anytime.

The FAQ's end has things quite unrelated to evolution,
Pokemon, or, well... A lot of things you'd care about.
Still, everything here is needed for one reason or another,
so that's why this section exists. Tucked away underneath
all that other text so no one notices, of course!

6.1 ------------------------------- Credits ----------------------------<tnk11>

The GameFAQs message board, a place where a mess can happen.
Of course, there'd be no mess to clean up if it weren't
there, so I should thank it for being there. I notice the
occasional "evolve" topic that prompted me into creating
this FAQ.

And I shall also point out users that helped me where they
could. I appreciate all the help, so you all have thanks.

+---------+
|jamescom1|
+---------+
Has been fairly active in my topic about this FAQ. Has
helped correct a few errors and pointed out a few things
that I missed. Such as the wake up animation. Also pointed
out an AR code that bypasses the freeze glitch.

+-------+
|nhahtdh|
+-------+
General hacking into the game. Provided some info from the
game data itself! In particular, delivered a useful
spreadsheet letting me know size and mobility, among other
things.

+-------+
|barboid|
+-------+
Pointed out that Sky does use the mainstream Platinum move
lists. Certainly helpful to know!

+-------+
|Phazeta|
+-------+
Informed me about the name glitch, and what versions it
applies to. Also created an AR code to get around it.

+--------+
|dguo1215|
+--------+
Asked if one can evolve too late to remember an evolved
form's moves.

+------------+
|VentKazemaru|
+------------+
Another bit of confirmation of the Evolution Freeze Glitch.

+----------+
|AngelPeach|
+----------+
Prompted a need to double-check the renaming rules.

+--------+
|chtma653|
+--------+
Confirmed that the renaming rules I've written apply to
Explorers of Time just fine.

+--------+
|Tokkobot|
+--------+
Pointed out that Deoxys can't ever remember moves.

+--------------+
|Kadabra025 |
|Altar321 |
|classicgamer83|
+--------------+
These three basically said Palkia isn't a requirement. At
least for Sky, anyway.

+-------------+
|CharizardFire|
+-------------+
Caught some silly mistake on my part, about sizes.

There are also these two sites I feel I should thank:

serebii.net
I have made extensive use of this site. Whether it's to find
out evolution requirements or movelists, this is the site I
went to. A lot.

upokecenter.com UPC -- the ultimate Pokemon Center
A site that contains actual data from within Time and
Darkness. While it's not been updated in a while, I still
made use of it for certain Pokemon who don't quite have the
move at level 1, yet serebii lists those as --.

6.2 ---------------------------- Contact Info --------------------------<cnt86>

It is difficult to contact me. I apologize. However, if you
have a GameFAQs message board account, I can be contacted
through that private message system.

GameFAQs message board name: FatRatKnight

As for E-mail, I only check it when I need to use it, which
is rather infrequent at best. Additionally, it is private.
So giving my E-mail here will not only fail to provide you
contact with me, it is also counter-productive for my uses.

But I will guarantee a response within a few days if you
send a private message to FatRatKnight through the GameFAQs
message board. I may have moved on, but I'm always ready to
look back here.
