On your map you should see an island in the southwest corner. Fly to that island now. There's a gigantic tower there and along the south coast you'll see a castle. Land by the castle, save, and enter it. I'll be dividing this place up like a dungeon to help keep track of where you are and where you should be going since it's a little complex.
Go north to enter the main portion of the castle. Here you'll see a chest. There's a secret path in the wall next to it to get to it for a Hi-Potion. Go up to 2F. You'll see 5 chests but you cannot get them yet. Go directly up to 3F.
- Ninja Sutra
Walk up to the throne and click behind it for a Ninja Sutra. Now go directly east to pass through a secret path leading to stairs.
- Alarm Clock, Cottage, Gold Needle, Maiden's Kiss, Unicorn Horn
There are three chests you can get here: Gold Needle, Cottage, and Maiden's Kiss. Go back up to the Throne Room and directly across to the west is a similar hidden path leading to the other two chests on 2F, a Unicorn Horn and an Alarm Clock. That's all in the main body of the castle. Go back to the outside, save, and this time enter the west tower.
West Tower 1F
When you first enter you'll see two chests. Go east immediately when you can and you'll walk through a secret path that loops around and gives access to the chest. There is a Sleep Blade inside, but there are also monsters guarding it! To be precise, a Steel Golem and 2 Skuldiers are guarding the goods. Have Cecil Cover Tellah then have him Defend. Have Cid Defend and Yang use Brace. Tellah should use Break on the Skuldiers one at a time and then on the Steel Golem. Have Yang or Cecil heal as is needed during the fight. Depending on whether or not the Skulldiers use Thundara on their first turn you could easily lose this fight. Just load up your save and try again. Once you get a favorable start, this fight isn't too bad. Cid or Yang might die but just have Tellah Raise them after the fight, have Cecil heal everyone to full, and continue. Equip the Sleep Blade on Cecil. Go up to the second floor now.
West Tower 2F
- 10000 gil, Bacchus's Wine, Silencing Arrows
There's a Bacchus's Wine in the group of pots to the north. In the southeast corner of the large room there's a hidden path that leads to the two chests, containing Silencing Arrows and 10000 gil. The southwest corner of the large room has a hidden staircase leading back to 1F.
West Tower 1F
- Bomb Core
Simply walk north and open the chest for a Bomb Core. That finishes up the west tower. Go back outside, use a Tent or Ether to recover your mp, save, and then it's time for the east tower.
East Tower 1F
- Coeurl Whisker, Ninja Sutra
Click the pot in the northeast corner for a Ninja Sutra. Head to the stairs but right before exiting, go west through a secret passage to the chest for a Coeurl Whisker. Go up the stairs.
East Tower 2F
- Blood Lance, Emergency Exit, Hermes Sandals, Hi-Potion x2
There is a switch when you first enter the room. Click it to open the door to the west. The far west chest contains a Hi-Potion. The two middle chests have an Emergency Exit and another Hi-Potion. In the northwest corner one of the pots contains Hermes Sandals. There's a secret path east of the two chests that leads around to the final chest. This chest contains a Blood Lance, but it's guarded by two Coeurls and a Lamia. This fight is rough. The most realistic way to win is to have someone use a Bronze Hourglass then have Tellah Break the Lamia then the Coeurls. The Lamia will put numerous status effects on your group and the Coeurls have an instant death attack. After defeating the enemies, go back around and drop into the hole.
East Tower 1F
- Silver Hourglass
You'll drop down to a floor with another chest and another hole. You can skirt around the hole on the west side to get the chest, which contains a Silver Hourglass (see, you even upgraded your used hourglass!). Drop down the next hole.
- Mad Ogre x3
- Ether x2, Ninja Sutra, Silver Apple
In the cellar, click the first candle you come across for another Ninja Sutra. Walk down the path to the chests. The two on the west both contain Ethers. Go ahead and pop one of those for Tellah now to get his mp back up. Have Cecil top off everyone's health. The chest on the east has a Silver Apple, but you won't get it without a fight! You'll fight three Mad Ogres. Basically all these guys do is attack. Have Cecil Cover Tellah and then Defend. Have Cid Defend and have Yang use Brace. As before, have Tellah Break all three of them. If you're lucky, the Sleep Blade will put one or more of them to sleep when Cecil counters. Obviously Break those last. For such an easy fight you should gain at least two levels with everyone. No complaints here! All in all you've probably gained 4 or 5 levels with every character in a few short battles, which will definitely help out in the upcoming dungeon. Take the nearby stairs to exit back to the world map. Swing by Castle Baron for a free stay in Cecil's bed (or 50 gil at the Baron Inn to save a bit of walking) and then we're off to Troia.
Continent of Troia
Northwest of Baron you should see a very large continent with nothing there. If you head literally in a straight line northwest from Baron you should come to a town and a castle beside each other on that continent. That's Troia. Go ahead and land here (there's room to land in the clearing between the town and castle) and enter the castle first.
- Bacchus's Wine, Ether x2, Hi-Potion x2, Ruby Ring x2, Tent x2, Whisperweed
Walk straight north to enter the castle proper. Go west and exit back out again, following the path to another door. As you walk in this room, you'll see none other than Edward lying on a bed here! Approach him to initiate a cutscene. He offers to fight alongside you but Tellah tells him that he needs his rest. Edward apologizes to Tellah again and then noticing Yang asks about Rydia. Yang delivers the bad news. Cid tells him not to worry, they have his Enterprise and will get Rosa back at least. Cecil explains Golbez's offer to trade for the Earth Crystal. Cecil tells him it was stolen by the Dark Elf (not sure how he magically knows that). Edward then gives Cecil the Whisperweed, claiming that it's his way to fight alongside them all.
Now return to the main floor of the castle and take the door on the opposite side and following the outside path to enter the east side of the castle. You'll see three staircases here. The west one is currently off-limits to us. Going down the middle staircase leads to a small room with a solitary pot in it, containing a Bacchus's Wine. Go back up and take the east staircase. Jackpot! 8 unguarded treasure chests here: Tent x2, Hi-Potion x2, Ether x2, and Ruby Ring x2. That's all there is to the castle for now so go ahead and exit the castle and enter the town.
- Inn: 400 gil
- Troia Item Shop
- Troia Weapon Shop
- Troia Armor Shop
- Troia Pub Shop
- 1000 gil, Dry Ether, Ether, Hi-Potion x2, Phoenix Down, Tent
Let's collect the free loot first. Go to the Inn and enter the water. Follow it all the way to the north side of town. In the northeast end of the water just walk around and you should run into the hidden chest with a Phoenix Down in it. Exit the water to the northwest. As the area starts to expand, you can find a Dry Ether just walking around a bit east from the brown patch here. You'll find 1000 gil just to the northeast of the brown patch. There's also a Decoy on the west side of the brown patch and an Ether at the south end of the brown patch. Go back into the water and make your way back to the main body of the town. Go to the Weapon/Armor Shop building. Search behind the large bush on the east side for a Tent. Make your way around to the area behind the building. You'll find a Hi-Potion in the brown patch west of the Weapon Shop and another one directly behind the Armor Shop.
That will do with the free loot. Now, if you had talked to people in the town and the castle you would have learned that the Dark Elf resides in a cave where the extreme magnetism inside makes metallic equipment useless. Therefore, you will need to build a non-metallic set of equipment for all four of your characters. This is the equipment that I suggest using for everyone:
|Fireshard||Fire/Ice Claws||Wooden Hammer||Flame Rod|
|Wizard's Hat||Headband||Headband||Feathered Cap|
|Gaia Gear||Kenpo Gi||Kenpo Gi||Sage's Surplice|
|Ruby Ring||Ruby Ring||Ruby Ring||Ruby Ring|
If you have been diligent about following my instructions with gear, you should have everything listed except for the Fireshard. You can pick one of those items up here in Troia. If you're missing any of the other equipment, you can buy it all between the Town of Baron and Mysidia aside from the Sage's Surplice, which can be substituted with a Gaia Gear. Don't put it on now though, just make sure you have it.
Another place to note on your map is the Pub. It's the building north from the Armor Shop. In here there's someone right beside the door who sells some items, including the Member's Writ. Members of the Pub can enjoy a special show downstairs and more importantly can get their hands on a new Augment Ability. You probably don't have the gil for this right now and even if you did, the Augment isn't worth blowing all your gil on right now. Just remember this for later. Don't worry, if you're following this walkthrough I'll be reminding you to come back for it so you won't miss it.
For now, go east of the Pub and you'll run into Jammingway, or Cheatingway now as he calls himself. He needs help with his double dating lifestyle, and recruits you to help. Enter the Pub now and talk to the lady behind the counter. She'll ask you what you'll have and you'll order some milk. She'll get you a glass and then after killing some time nervously, Cheatingway finally shows up for his date. Leave the Pub now. The last building you haven't been to yet is the black chocobo farm. It only serves as a plot tool, showing you the black chocobo, a breed that can still fly and can land in forests. They are still sometimes found in the wild, and in order to reach the Lodestone Cavern, you'll have to find one of your own. That's all there is to do in Troia so leave the town and save your game.
- Treant x2, Mortblossom x1 NEW!
- Treant x1, Needlehog x2 NEW!
- Cait Sith x1, Needlehog x2 NEW!
- Ettin Snake x2, Cave Naga x1 NEW!
- Gysahl Greens x3
Walk north from Troia, following the coastline. It shouldn't take you long to find a larger a round forest that usually symbolizes a chocobo forest. Before entering, be sure you killed at least one of everything to complete your bestiary. You can just turn on Auto Battle here. With all the experience you got from Eblan Castle you'll be killing everything in 1-2 hits anyway. Cait Sith have a Death attack but it usually fails, Ettin Snake can Paralyze, and Cave Nagas use Petrify. Everyone except possibly Cid should be at least lvl 25 at this point if not higher. I would suggest aiming to get Cid up to lvl 25 before moving on to the Lodestone Cavern, you shouldn't have to do much grinding after completing the bestiary for the area. When you're ready, save your game and enter the Chocobo Village.
Make sure everyone's healed up then talk to the white chocobo for your mp back. There are 3 Gysahl Greens here, one along the north border of the middle grassy area, one in the northwest of the zone where it comes to a point on the map, and one that is located at the southeast corner of the darker trapezoid shaped portion in the northeast of the minimap. After picking them up, talk to the black chocobo to hitch a ride. Go east from the chocobo forest and you'll see a cave at the end of a long patch of forest. Land your black chocobo there by the cave, equip your non-metallic gear, save, and get ready for the Lodestone Cavern.
***HAVE YOU TALKED TO EDWARD? IF NOT, LEAVE AND CHECK THE Troia Castle PORTION OF THE GUIDE!***
- Mapping: Ether
- Hi-Potion, Unicorn Horn
The fights are the same as outside aside from the Ogre, which is a weaker version of the ones you killed in Eblan Castle. Cecil's basically useless but Yang and Cid will still do great damage. Tellah's Flame Rod blasts will do good damage to most creatures as well. When you're ready, walk north just a bit to map the entrance then go as far east as you can for a chest containing a Hi- Potion. Map the surrounding area then go back to the south path and take it. The path to the next floor is all one-way. You'll get a Unicorn Horn from the chest by the exit and an Ether for mapping the floor.
- Mapping: Vampire Fang x3
- Ogre x3
- Cait Sith x2
- Cait Sith x2, Ogre x1
- Cait Sith x1, Needlehog x2
- Mindflayer x2 NEW! (treasure room only)
- Mindflayer x1, Cait Sith x1, Ogre x1 (treasure room only)
- Cave Bat x3 NEW! (treasure room only)
- Succubus x1, Ogre x1 NEW! (treasure room only)
- 2000 gil, Ether x2
Map out the starting area then go west. As you head north you'll see a path heading west. Take that path and you'll reach a chest with an Ether inside. Go back to the main path, go north and follow the path east to a dead end to map it out, then go north. There's an exit here that leads to a small room with two chests, 2000 gil and an Ether. In this room you might run into Mindflayers. They are pretty nasty magicians. Try to take them out quickly as they have an annoying attack that uses Paralyze and Sap on you. Cave Bats will spam Sap on you over and over. Succubus are pretty tame and also weak to fire. All of these enemies appear later in the dungeon so you needn't fight them all now. Leave the room, make sure the area by the door is mapped and go west. Map out the large area to the west then you'll get three Vampire Fangs from mapping as you head to the next floor.
- Mapping: Silent Bell x3
- Mindflayer x2
- Mindflayer x1, Cait Sith x1, Ogre x1
- Cave Bat x3
- Succubus x1, Ogre x1
- Ogre x3
- Cait Sith x2, Ogre x1
- Cait Sith x2 (treasure room only)
- Cait Sith x2, Needlehog x1 (treasure room only)
- Bronze Hourglass, Hi-Potion, Spider Silk
There's a second door right at the start. There's a Save Point here. Use a Tent if you need to, save your game, and head back out to the third floor. Follow the one-way path south. When it becomes crescent-shaped, go to the end of the crescent to find another door. There are three chests inside: a Hi-Potion, Spider Silk, and a Bronze Hourglass. Leave the room and head west. The long one-way path leads to the next floor. You'll acquire three Silent Bells for mapping out the floor.
- Faerie Claws
This is just a transition floor that has a chest with a Faerie Claw in it and some different encounters. Grab the chest, don't equip them, and move on.
- Mapping: Dry Ether
- Mindflayer x2
- Mindflayer x1, Cait Sith x1, Ogre x1
- Cave Bat x3
- Succubus x1, Cave Bat x2
- Ettin Snake x2, Cave Naga x1
- Emergency Exit
Follow the long path until it branches then take the east branch. There's a Save Point here. As long as you aren't nearing death you don't really need to use a Tent here. Go back outside and then go north at the main path. You'll see a door but don't actually take it yet. Go west from the door and take the path to a chest with an Emergency Exit inside. You'll get an Ether Dry for mapping the floor then zone to the next floor.
***DID YOU TALK TO EDWARD? IF NOT, YOU WILL DIE! CHECK THE Troia Castle PORTION OF THE GUIDE***
Walk north to approach the Dark Elf himself. You'll get in a fight with him and get totally destroyed. Afterwards the scene cuts to Edward. He can sense that you need help, and desperately crawls to his harp. He begins to play and the Twin Harp echoes the music. The tune revives your party and causes pain to the Dark Elf. It also nullifies the metallic barrier on the cave. Why he didn't do this earlier I don't know. Anyway, take the time now to put on your best equipment for everyone (leave Yang's ice and flame claws on) and prepare for battle.
- HP: 7953 / XP: 39765 / Gil: 5000
- Weak: Fire, Holy / Absorb: Darkness
- Suggested Party Level: 26-29
Have Tellah cast Silence on Dark Elf and then he basically just sits around doing nothing. Have Yang Focus 3 times then wait. Have Tellah cast Haste on everyone and have Cecil use Protect on everyone then cure whatever damage you took before Silence. Cid can chip away at its health. After everyone is Hasted, have Tellah use Osmose or an Ether to recover his mp and after that Cecil can help Cid chip away at Dark Elf's health. It might use Hex and transform someone into a Pig. Just remove it with a Diet Ration. Soon, it should transform into the Dark Dragon.
At this point, he'll recover his health. Have Cid use a Spider Silk, Cecil Cover Tellah, Tellah start casting Firaga, and Yang use a Bacchus's Wine on himself. Once Yang goes Berserk he'll unleash a super strong attack doing well over 4500 damage. Once Tellah's Firaga goes off the fight should be over. Super easy fight.
Afterwards, walk up and claim the crystal. Assuming you've killed the four new bestiary enemies, just walk out of the crystal room and Teleport out of the dungeon. When you get on your black chocobo it will take you right back to the forest. Use the Cure -> white chocobo method of recovering then grab a normal chocobo and ride back to Troia.
Return to Troia Castle
- 55000 gil, Bardsong Augment, Dry Ether x2, Echo Herbs x2, Elixir, Ether x2,
- Fire Arrows, Great Bow, Hide Augment(*), Hi-Potion x2, Ice Arrows, Lightning
- Arrows, Remedy x2, Salve Augment(*), Silver Apple
Let's go check up on Edward first. You remember where he is? Enter the castle and go west then follow the paths to him. He'll congratulate you on your victory and Cecil reminds him they couldn't have done it without him. Tellah and Edward finally reconcile. Tellah tells him that Anna chose wisely and would've been proud of him, and that he would avenge them both against Golbez with his Meteor. You'll now get Edward's Augment Abilities depending on how many you gave him. You will get Bardsong by default, Salve if you gave him one, and Hide if you gave him two or more. If you're following this walkthrough for your first play, you'll just get Bardsong. You should be sure to get Hide and Salve on your 2nd and 3rd playthroughs because they are both pretty useful. At this point in time, you'll want to get Augment abilities on Tellah. Give him Tsunami and Bardsong. There's no need to equip either of them, they are just so that you can get all of his Augments later.
Now you'll need to let the Epopts of Troia know you got their crystal back, even though you intend to borrow it. You should note though that once you talk to them, you won't be able to travel around on your airship for a while. You can still use black chocobos if you need to assuming your destination has forests to land in, but that's all. So if you want to take care of anything else first, do it now. Anyway, just go to the main portion of the castle and go north until you enter the room with the 8 women. They'll surround you and thank you, that is until Kain's voice booms out over the room. He reminds you of the deal you made with Golbez. After the cutscene, leave this screen.
Remember how there was a staircase on the east side of the castle that we couldn't do anything at before? Well we're going back there. Go east and follow the path to the east tower. When you enter this tower, take the west staircase. Go over and talk to the guard and tell her that Yes, you have permission to rob the treasury. These ladies sure are nice, letting you keep their crystal and loot their stuff. Go through the door she opens and loop around east to the staircase. There are EIGHTEEN, yes EIGHTEEN chests here for your taking. They are (clockwise starting with the northwest chest): Hi-Potion, Remedy, Ether, Dry Ether, Elixir, Echo Herbs, Great Bow, Fire Arrows, 5000 gil, Lightning Arrows, 50000 gil, Ice Arrows, Echo Herbs, Silver Apple, Dry Ether, Ether, Remedy, Hi-Potion. Now that's some prime loot. You're done here now so exit the castle.
When you're ready to go after Rosa, board your airship and you'll get a cutscene that leads to your party entering the Tower of Zot. Golbez will tell you to hurry to the top if you want to keep Rosa safe.
- Mapping: Zeus's Wrath x5
- Centaur Knight x2 NEW!
- Centaur Knight x1, Frostbeast x2 NEW!
- Marionetteer x1, Marionette x2 NEW!
- Purple Bavarois x3 NEW!
- Flame Mail
The first thing of note is that you can only play through this dungeon once. That means if you want to complete the bestiary here and you want to collect the treasure, you'll have to do it before you kill the bosses. Also it should be noted that most of the enemies here are ice based, and thus are weak to fire. Make sure that Yang has Flame Claws on and does NOT have Ice Claws on. I recommend using Flame Claws/Faerie Claws. The Faerie Claws can charm the target in case he doesn't kill it. Tellah should already have a Flame Rod on. If not, put one on him now.
Centaur Knights, Marionetteers, and Marionettes hit for weak damage. Just attack them until they die. Also note that Marionetteers will continually summon Marionettes until they die, so kill them first. Frostbeasts are weak to Fire, but they also have a multi-hit attack that will do very lethal damage to your group. You can prevent this by having Tellah cast Berserk on them right off the bat but you might want to run from them on this floor since they come in pairs and you don't have the best of gear to defend against them. Purple Bavarois will die with a multi-target Fira.
Now to explore the map, start by going west to map out the starting area. If you need to leave the tower for any reason, you can do so here. Your airship will land and next time you take off you'll come back here. To continue exploring the floor, go north and then take the west path. You'll come up to a chest with Flame Mail in it. Put this on Cecil immediately, it is strong against Ice attacks which is really handy here. Walk a loop around the chest to ensure you map the area completely then continue south then east from the chest. Go north to map the dead-end, then south to connect the middle portion of the map to where you started. Continue south, around eastward, then heading north. Map out both little dead ends to your west to hit 100% on map completion, earning 5 Zeus's Wraths. Be sure you've fought Marionetteers and Marionettes before going to the next floor, as this is the only floor they appear on.
- Mapping: Heavenly Wrath x3
- Black Knight x2 NEW!
- Ice Lizard x2, Gremlin x1 NEW!
- Flamehound x1 NEW!
- Purple Bavarois x3
- Purple Bavarois x2, Centaur Knight x1
- Flame Sword
On this floor you'll start fighting Black Knights, Gremlins, and Ice Lizards. They are all even weaker than Centaur Knights because they are weak to Fire. Follow the path to a T-intersection, then go south. Map out the dead-end to your east when you come to it then follow the main path west. There's a chest here. Before opening it, replace Yang's Flame Claws with Ice Claws. It has a Flame Sword, but you have to fight an enemy to claim it, a Flamehound. The easiest way to kill this is to have Tellah Berserk is at the start to prevent its multihit flame attack. Then just pound away on it with everyone, throwing in a Blizzara from Tellah. After the fight put the Flame Sword on Cecil and put Yang's Flame Claws back on. Continue west then go north to the top of the map. Map out the entire east area back to the beginning area then return to the west path you passed for the exit. Claim your three Heavenly Wraths. Purple Bavarois and Gremlins stop showing up after this floor, as a warning.
- Mapping: Blue Fang
Here you'll encounter Fell Turtles. These guys absorb Fire, so don't attack them with Cecil or Yang. Since Cecil will counter if he gets hit and heal it, swap his sword at the start of the fight to the Sleep Sword then swap back after the fight. Otherwise the fight is going to last a long time. Soldieress are simple, just attack them until they die. They will sometimes counter. You should be able to pretty easily take the Frostbeast duos out now. Have Yang, Cid, and Cecil all gang up on one while Tellah Berserks the other one. Finish it off next then take out the weak Black Knight. Now, the bottom half of this map is a set of giant loops. Just run around them all to map it all out. Afterwards, take either path going north and follow it around to the exit. There you'll pick up a Blue Fang.
Sorceress cast annoying spells like Slow but they aren't too big a deal, just attack them until they fall. This is also the easiest place to take out a Frostbeast if you still haven't. Follow the path south until you can go north. Go up here and you'll see three paths. Let's start with the west one.
- Soldieress x2, Sorceress x1
- Soldieress x1, Sorceress x1, Centaur Knight x1
- Soldieress x1, Frostbeast x1, Ice Lizard x1
- Frostbeast x1, Sorceress x1, Fell Turtle x1
- Flame Shield, Gaia Hammer, Hell Claws, Sage's Surplice
Go straight south to find a Gaia Hammer for Cid. Equip that now and go back to the previous floor.
Now take the middle door. You'll start right next to a chest with Hell Claws in it. Replace the Faerie Claws with this one. Follow the long path to the west to find another chest with a Flame Shield. Put that on Cecil now. Also be sure to map the little corner behind the chest!
Head back to the previous floor and take the east door. There's a small room here with a Sage's Surplice inside. Go back to the previous floor again.
- Mapping: Elixir
Go south and east to the exit to the next floor, snaring an Elixir in the process for mapping the floor.
- Mapping: Bronze Hourglass x3
Now that you're on the fifth floor proper, follow the path to the door, go in, use a Tent and then save at the Save Point. Exit the room and continue west. You're about to fight a boss fight here so be prepared. You might end up mapping the floor before the boss encounter, netting you three Bronze Hourglasses. If not you can just do it after the fight. You'll see a cutscene with three women who call themselves the Magus Sisters. They don't want you making it to Golbez and intend to stop you. Let's show them who's boss!
- HP: 5281 / XP: 15843 / Gil: 3000
- HP: 5279 / XP: 15837 / Gil: 3000
- HP: 9290 / XP: 27870 / Gil: 3000
- Suggested Party Level: 28-31
These three sisters like to use what they called the Delta Attack. This works by having Sandy (the tall one) cast Reflect on Cindy (the fat one). Then Mindy (the small one) will cast a strong spell on Cindy, which then reflects to one of your party members. They will do this over and over, which after the first time will cause one of your party members to get the Reflect status as well, making curing difficult. That is of course, assuming you let them do it in the first place. The other problem with this fight is that Cindy will Raise the other two sisters if they die before her. So our strategy is the prevent the Delta Attack and to kill Cindy first. Let's begin.
The first thing you want to do is Silence Sandy with Tellah. If she's silenced, she can't put Reflect up on Cindy. If she gets Reflect cast before you silence her, just have Tellah Dispel it. Now then, focus your attacks on Cindy. Cindy will counter physical attacks sometimes so be wary of your health. Use the usual techniques. Cecil Covers Tellah and attacks. Yang Focuses three times then attacks. Cid attacks when safe to (if low on health don't attack). Tellah can nuke (use Bio) but focus mostly on healing. As an added bonus, Mindy will continue to cast spells on Cindy even though they won't reflect. Thanks, Mindy! Once Cindy dies, they stop the Delta Attack formation. Silence Mindy at this point and then continue the beatdown on the other two sisters while they stand around and do nothing. Piece of cake.
Collect your Bronze Hourglasses if you didn't before the fight, then go back and use a tent. Unequip Tellah, make sure he has two Augments given to him (again I highly suggest Tsunami and Bardsong) and save your game. Remember, this is your absolute last chance to be here, so if you missed any enemies on the way up, go back down and fight them. If you are aiming to complete the bestiary on your first playthrough, be sure that you have fought at least one of all of the following: Marionette, Centaur Knight, Gremlin, Frostbeast, Black Knight, Ice Lizard, Soldieress, Sorceress. The rest you can encounter later in the game. If you missed any treasure, go back and get it. When you're ready, go past where you fought the sisters and enter the door.
- Fast Talker(*), Last Stand(*), Recall
Go around and north to find Golbez and Kain. Cecil asks where Rosa is, and Golbez demands to get the crystal first. He hands over the crystal and again asks for Rosa, to which Golbez says he doesn't know. Tellah is tired of Golbez's crap and pushes past Cecil to take him on. Tellah hits him with Firaga, Thundaga, and Blizzaga. It isn't enough to take him down, so Tellah decides to use Meteor. Cecil is worried the toll it will take to cast it will be too much, but he does it anyway. Golbez isn't prepared for it and actually goes down. Unfortunately, so does Tellah. Golbez recovers and turns to Kain, telling him it's time to go since they got the crystal. Kain collapses. Apparently Meteor broke Golbez's hold over him. Cecil approaches Golbez but he knocks him away. Towering over Cecil, he prepares to deliver a killing blow but... he can't. He turns around and walks away. They go to Tellah's side. Tellah tells them to avenge Anna in his steed in his last breath. Cecil swears to get his revenge for him. After the cutscene, you'll see one to three sparklies on the ground, depending on how many Augments Tellah had. You'll always get Remember, you'll get Last Stand if you gave him one Augment and Fast Talker if you gave him two or more.
Talk to Kain after picking up your Augments. Kain will apologize for everything he's done. Cecil asks about Rosa and Kain remembers she's in grave danger! They run off to the next room where Rosa's being held and Cecil saves her by inches from a blade set to chop her in half. She knew he would come, and they exchange warm words and a warmer embrace. Cecil explains to Rosa about Golbez's mind control over Kain. Rosa tells him that it's okay and Cecil tells him it's time to fight together again. Rosa and Kain join your party! Before doing anything, you'll want to rearrange your party a bit. For now you want to go with a 2 front 3 back party setup. Put Cecil and Yang on the front line and Rosa, Cid, and Kain on the back row. Equip Rosa with: Great Bow, Silencing Arrows, Gold Hairpin, Sage's Surplice, and Silver Armlet. You should also give her the Dualcast Augment ability, and replace Aim with it. You might be tempted to give Kain the Blood Lance, but all of the negative stats from it aren't worth it. Kain's equipment is fine as is. Give him the Cry Augment and equip it. Also go ahead and give Yang the Last Stand and Recall Augments but don't equip either one. Walk south and you'll run into another battle, the third elemental fiend, Barbariccia.
- HP: 12371 / XP: 61855 / Gil: 10000
- Suggested Party Level: 28-31
This is an interesting fight. Barbariccia has a very nasty counterattack, so you want to attack as little as possible. As you probably can already expect, this means that you want Yang doing the attacking. Also of note is that she will frequently go into a tornado form. During this form, nothing can hit her except for Kain's Jump attack. Jump also knocks her out of the form so damage can resume. Armed with this knowledge you can probably figure out the basic strategy.
Yang uses Hermes Sandals on himself, Focuses three times and attacks (only when in normal form). Kain is kept on standby (try to use Cry during downtime) and should Jump as soon as she goes into tornado form. Cecil Covers Rosa and defends, healing as is needed. Cecil will help with damage by counterattacking whenever he gets hit, which is nice. Cid should use Spider Silk on Barbariccia only when Rosa is available to immediately cure everyone back up because she'll counter it with Maelstrom which drops everyone to single digit health. Rosa should Dualcast Protect/Shell on your party when she isn't healing. That's basically all there is to this fight. It will take time but you'll get the win. It shouldn't take more than 3 or 4 fully Focused attacks, maybe 5 at the most.
After the fight is over, she'll laugh as the tower begins to self-destruct. Rosa manages to Teleport the party out and to the safety of Cecil's bedroom (guess we know what's on her mind). Why she didn't do that earlier is anyone's guess. Now the party talks. If Baron has all of the crystals, what can they do to stop them? Kain tells them that Baron doesn't have all of the crystals, they only have the four crystals from the surface world. They are lacking the dark crystals of legend. Golbez determined that the dark crystals are kept underground. Once all 8 crystals are gathered, the way to the moon will open. He isn't sure how to get to the underground, but Golbez gave him a key to the path, the Magma Stone. Your party now has the key, but they have to find a way to use it. But how can they explore the world when the Enterprise was left up at the Tower of Zot? Luckily Cid has an answer for that, the Enterprise has a remote control mechanism on it, and he had it automatically return to Baron! That's so convenient for us. We're getting close to another Augment Ability branching point here. Soon it will be too late to give Cid any Augments and thus you won't be able to get all of his. If this is your first playthrough, I would suggest not giving any abilities to Cid. His Augments are not really worthwhile for your first playthrough versus the other ones you can get from other characters.
Treasure: Whirlwind Augment
The first thing you want to do when you get into your airship is make your way back to the Lodestone Cavern. Remember you have to ride a black chocobo from the forest north of Troia to get there. Go all the way through the cave (the magnetic field is gone this time) and in the crystal room you'll see sparklies on the ground. Pick up the Whirlwind Augment here. Walk out of the crystal room and Teleport out, then return to your airship.
As you mapped out the world map for the first time, you might've noticed a town on a small island that we didn't visit. Well, it's time to go there now. The island is directly south from Baron. Land by the town and enter it.
- Inn: 50 gil
- Agart Item Shop
- Agart Weapon Shop
- Agart Armor Shop
- Antarctic Wind, Cottage, Gaia Drum, Hi-Potion, Phoenix Down, Potion
Starting off with the free loot as always, follow the path past the Inn and go up the steps. Go all the way west to the very end of the elevated area and you'll find a Hi-Potion in the bush. Go north, down the first set of steps you get to, continue south and make your way to the north of the large bush beside the elevated area in the middle. Search this area for a Phoenix Down. Right above it in the corner there are a few small bushes that contain a Potion. Now approach the lake to the north and on the northeast side of the lake there's another large bush that has a Cottage in it. Go back up the steps and around and down the stairs you used to get up then go west. You should see Cheatingway in a house. The small bush in front of that house has an Antarctic Wind in it. Go west from there and search the north side of the large bush to get a Gaia Drum.
Talk to Cheatingway now. He'll become Puddingway and he'll ask you to find him a Rainbow Pudding. Just agree to help for now. You probably don't have one though, but if you should ever come across one then come give it to him. You'll probably end up waiting until much later in the game to get this item. If you do happen to have one, he'll move and you can get the Phoenix Down behind him. If you follow this walkthrough completely, we'll be coming back to him later in the walkthrough so don't sweat it for now.
Afterwards, go to the well in the middle of the town and drop the Magma Stone inside it. This will cause a massive volcanic eruption in the mountains on the island. Afterwards, there will be a gaping hole in the mountains! You can leave the town now. When you're ready to go to the underground, fly over the hole in the mountains and descend. Bear in mind that once you do, you won't be able to return to the surface for quite a while so make sure you're fully prepared before you do!
- Draw Attacks Augment
Fly over the mountains and descend when you are ready to enter the underground. When you do, you'll see the Red Wings engaged in battle with tanks. Unfortunately, you get caught in the crossfire. The Enterprise takes a few nasty hits and drops to the ground. You're stuck on the ground now. Just to the southwest you'll see a castle. Before entering, strip Cid of all of his gear. Remember that this is the last chance to toss Augments on him if you want to get his extra ones. Again my recommendation is that you wait for the second playthrough for this. While you're in the menu, go ahead and swap Yang's Flame Claws with the Faerie Claws and put the Sleep Blade back on Cecil. Also, swap the rows to the 3 front 2 back form. Put Cecil, Kain, and Yang on the front row then Rosa and Cid on the back row. Save and enter the castle immediately southwest of the Enterprise.
Once you enter, just keep walking north (the rest of the castle is being blocked by dwarves) until you enter the King's throne room. Cecil explains to King Giott that Golbez is after the Dark Crystals and that they want to help him protect them. Cid plans to repair the Enterprise so that it can be used to return to the surface for greater repairs, and he leaves your group for now. After Cid leaves, Yang suddenly leaps forward, claiming he saw something. The King opens the door to the crystal room and your party dashes in. Then suddenly the door locks behind you! You look forward and see... a bunch of creepy dancing dolls? Well they plan to destroy you so it's time for a fight!

For the first part of this fight, you are fighting several weak dolls. You don't want to kill them all, just enough to keep from taking a beating until they combine into the Calcabrina form. Once they transform to Calcabrina you'll want to kill it before it turns back into the dolls again. This is assuming that you want the bestiary completed. It's entirely possible to kill the dolls before they combine and bypass Calcabrina completely. Here's the basic rundown for the fight.
Have Yang use Hermes Sandals then Focus three times then keep him on standby until Calcabrina forms. Have Rosa Dualcast Slow on all the dolls and Protect on your party. She can heal afterwards. Cecil can just attack normally. Kain should Cry then attack. Kill a Calca first and then kill Brinas until the transformation. Save the two Calcas if you finish off the Brinas so they can combine. Calca and Brina will counterattack so heal accordingly. Be sure that before they merge that you've killed at least one of each for bestiary info completion purposes.
Once Calcabrina forms, have Yang pop a Bacchus's Wine and he'll attack on his own. Rosa should Dualcast Hold and Slow (in case Hold fails), recasting Hold if it fails or otherwise just attacking. Calcabrina has a nasty Counterattack so keeping it locked down with Hold really helps the fight go smoothly. Cecil should Cover Rosa and then attack, healing if necessary. Kain should Cry then Attack regularly. This fight shouldn't take long. Be sure to keep Cecil's health as high as you can.
After the fight, the dolls will go away and out comes... Golbez! He claims that this will make the 7th crystal for him and that would only leave one more to claim. He then decides to finish you for good.

This fight starts off in a tricky manner. You have a very limited amount of time at the start of the fight for a bit of preparation. After this, Golbez will paralyze everyone and his pet will slowly pick them off one by one except for Cecil and possibly Kain. Here's the strategy. At the start of the fight have Kain use Cry. Have Rosa single cast Slow on Golbez. Yang and Cecil can attack after Rosa's Slow and Kain's Cry go off. It's possible to Jump with Kain and if he's in the air when Golbez and his pet start killing everyone he'll live through it. Kain isn't really necessary for the fight though and Cry is more useful.
When everyone is dead but Cecil (and possibly Kain up in the air), Golbez again prepares for the killing blow but this time he's interrupted by... a dragon made of mist?! Why is that familiar? Golbez's pet dies and leaves Golbez alone. Someone uses a Remedy to allow Cecil to move again. It's... Rydia! She looks different somehow, but it's definitely her. Now Golbez will use a Barrier Change and the fight will begin.
Wait for Cecil and Rydia to both be ready then have one use a Phoenix Down on Rosa and the other immediately follow it with a Hi-Potion. Once Rosa is up, have her Dualcast Shell on the group and Cura the group. Barrier Change will make Golbez absorb all magic except for one type. Using Libra exposes the weakness. Have Cecil use Libra on his next turn and whatever that weakness may be, have Rydia use her summon of that element (note that she has several more summons now than she did before). This will cause another Barrier Change. Have Rosa or Cecil cast Libra again and repeat. Golbez likes to use Aspir during this fight to drain your mp. Don't hesitate to use Ethers when needed. He also will cast nukes on your whole group. Rosa and Cecil should keep hp high. Have Rosa get Slow up on Golbez if you didn't before. Kain can just Cry then help heal with items or use a Spider Silk for Slow. It should only take at most three summons to finish him off.
After the fight, Rydia explains that she has been spending time in the Feymarch, the land of Eidolons, where time moves differently from Earth, which is why she's older. She cannot use White Magic anymore but has gotten much more proficient in Black Magic and in Summoning. After the reunion, the group walks off. However, Golbez isn't quite as dead as they thought, and he stands up and snags the crystal then vanishes.
Giott isn't completely concerned about the loss of the crystal, as the final crystal is locked up in a cave that only he has the key to enter. He then explains that Golbez is holding the 6 (and now 7) other crystals in his base at the Tower of Babil and suggests that you rush the tower and get them back while Golbez tries to get the last one! It sounds like as good of a plan as any, so your group sets off. To help, Giott hands you the very useful Draw Attacks Augment Ability. Now that you're done with these fights, we can finally explore this place.
- Inn: 600g
- Dwarven Castle Weapon Shop
- Dwarven Castle Armor Shop
- Dwarven Castle Item Shop
- Dwarven Castle Item Shop 2
- Bacchus's Wine, Black Belt Gi, Bomb Fragment, Cottage x3, Dwarven Axe, Elixir x2
- Ether x2, Gysahl Greens x3, Hi-Potion, Power Armlet, Reach Augment, Silver Hourglass
First you'll want to heal up after that fight. The Inn here is 600 gil, but it's possible to rest up for free so let's do that instead. Leave the Throne Room and take the west staircase. This takes you to the Inn. Take the northeast staircase here. In B1, go east into the first open area. You'll see a dwarf standing in front of the wall here. Talk to him and he'll let you through the door to B2. On the next floor follow the map all the way to the stairs in the southwest corner and take them. In the Dwarven Base go as far west as you can and you'll see a dwarf in front of a pot. When you click the pot, it restores everyone to full hp/mp, even dead party members! There is also a Bomb Fragment just west of the top center of the blue floored area east of the healing pot.
Now that everyone's alive and well, you should look into using some of your Augment Abilities. Give Cecil the Draw Attacks ability then give Rydia Fast Talker and Bluff. For now, replace Cover with Draw Attacks for Cecil and equip Fast Talker on Rydia. You can exit south of the pot and save if you want, then we can get to actually exploring the castle.
Go back up to B2. You'll see three chests on your map which all contain Cottages. Now go up to B1. If you go east here you'll see a room full of pots. There are three Gysahl Greens in these pots. There's a spot to summon the Fat Chocobo here too if you're bored and want to play with Whyt minigames or check your bestiary. Go west and back up to the Inn. Exit this room to the west this time.
You'll be in West Tower 1F now. Go upstairs to West Tower 2F. There are a large number of pots in the south of this room. Go around the side to get behind them and you should find a Bacchus's Wine in one of the back pots. Go up to West Tower 3F.
This floor is pretty annoying. There's a hidden path to the west of the stairs. Follow it north then west and it will loop around and past the north chest before opening up next to it. The chest contains an Elixir. Go back to the start of the path then go straight west to the chest with a Hi-Potion in it. There's another secret path south of this chest. It loops around and exits out next to the south chest (which is hard to see) for a Black Belt Gi. Go back into the secret path, this time going past the south chest and exiting out below the east chest, an Ether. Put the Black Belt Gi on Yang and head back down to West Tower 1F. Exit to the south and you'll be outside. Go across to the east tower and enter it.
The chest in East Tower 1F has a Dwarven Axe. Go up the stairs to East Tower 2F. The pot kind of by itself directly west of the stairs leading to the next floor has a Bacchus's Wine in it. You'll have to go around the pots along the south wall to get to it. Grab that and go up the stairs.
East Tower 3F is another stupid floor. Go directly north for an Ether. Take a secret path west, south, then west again to reach the next chest, a Power Armlet. Go east and south to the next chest, an Elixir. The secret path here leads east to the Silver Hourglass chest. Equip the Power Armlet on Yang then go back to East Tower 1F. Take the southeastern staircase leading back into the main body of the castle, the Weapons & Armor floor.
The equipment here might look tempting, but you're about to be facing a lot of fire-based enemies, so having ice resistance armor and fire attribute weapons is not such a good idea. Do pick up Rosa a Rune Armlet though. Now's a good time to empty out your junk in your inventory as well. You can sell all of the following if you still have them: Fireshard, Blood Lance, Wooden Hammer, Mythril Hammer, Gaia Hammer, Healing Staff, Lustrous Shield, Wizard's Hat, Feathered Cap, Gaia Gear, Sage's Surplice, Kenpo Gi, Ruby Ring, Silver Armlet. If you look between the two shops you should see what looks like a door. Enter it now. You'll be in the Lali-ho Pub. It seems pretty much empty, but if you walk east in the southeast corner of the room, you'll find a secret path leading downstairs to...
The Developers' Office. There is a Augment Ability you can earn here, so I'm going to walk you through how to do so.
- At some point on this floor you need to go into a random battle with Game Designer. Just turn on Auto Battle and you should be fine.
- As you enter the room, talk to the dwarf Kango and the guard, Naima "Herrin der Nacht" Yamamoto by the opening first.
- Enter the main area and talk to the blue creature, Airi Yoshioka.
- Go northwest and talk to the doll, FujiPin.
- Go northeast and talk to the human to fight a group of programmers that own you.
- Go southeast and talk to the white mage, Yuno Lee. Choose Yes.
- Go southeast and talk to the bomb, Kazuyuki Ikumori.
- Go east and talk to the white Namingway wannabe, QA - Tomokazu Nagamori. He'll disappear.
- Enter the nearby room and talk to the pair of pigs, TK and Little Brother.
- Leave the room and go east. Talk to the frog, Tamura.
- Go east and talk to the goblin, Kinta.
- Go east and talk to the fat chocobo, Sousui.
- If you haven't fought Game Designer, run around until you do.
- Enter the north door near Sousui.
- In the Music Room, talk to the southwesternmost human, Nobio Uemaccino.
- Talk to the person directly east of him, Junya Nakano.
- Talk to the person directly east of him, Cromano Fukui.
- Talk to the person in the northwest corner, Cochin Yui.
- Talk to the black mage in the northeast corner, Eba Imasam.
- Open the chest, it contains One Kilobyte of Memory. Kamichi will take it.
- Leave the Music Room and take the stairs directly south of QA.
- In the Break Room, you'll have a random encounter with a trapdoor named Ito. You can Auto-Battle. I think this is just timed. Watch Cecil's health!
- Talk to the black mage Seikoh "Archie" Hokama.
- Go west and talk to the little kid on the bed, Tom Retranslattery.
- Go northeast and talk to the little kid, Shu Oguro. He'll disappear if you talk to him with Rydia or Rosa.
- Go west and talk to the chocobo, Matrix Yabuta. He'll restore your MP.
- Go west and talk to the soldier, Asano. He'll battle his Whyt against you. He's tough but you can take him. 3x Focus'd attack or Jumps should do it. He'll disappear.
- Go east and examine the bookshelf for the Lustful Lali-Ho item.
- Go to the previous room. Go west to the table area. A bit east of the blue character, click on the table. Use the Lustful Lali-Ho here and Nagahori will come and take it.
- Go back down to the Break Room. To the west of the soldier Asano you'll see sparklies on the ground. Click them for the Reach Augment. Whew!
You're done with the castle now. Exit by the hp/mp restoring pot in the Dwarven Base, equip Yang with Hell/Ice Claws and Rosa with Ice Arrows then save your game so you don't have to do all of that again.
