1. Introduction
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"How do I max my stats?" "Which Augments should I give to the characters to
achieve max stats?" Both of these questions have been seen before from people
wanting to know how to max their stats. So, I'm here to provide a nifty little
guide on how to max your stats.

This guide will cover the following: general information about stat maxing, how
to distribute your Augments amongst the final party, and two ways you can max
your stats. Now, this guide may get kind of confusing. I will have a chart of
the character's stats at level 70. Next, I will tell you which Augments to
equip, how long to leave them on, and give you different chart statistics for
the stats. If you need any help, or you would like a less in-depth, explanation,
please don't hesitate to email me. I will be happy to explain my charts and
diagrams.

To ensure that this guide achieves the overall effect of stat maxing, this guide
will be as error-free as possible. If you spot any errors I have made, please
promptly send me an email, so I may correct the problem. That will make this
guide more proficient. And that is all I have to say about what you will find
in this guide. Let's get technical.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Notes about Stat Maxing
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before I begin the actual stat maxing section, I need to tell you some important
things about stat maxing. These notes will help you to understand exactly how it
works, and you will be prepared to successfully max your stats.

Note #1: Don't bother trying to max your stats until your third playthrough. It
is impossible to max them on your first playthrough, but you can on your second.
If you want the overall affect, however, you should save it for your third
playthrough. That is the best time to max your stats.

Note #2: People seem to think that their stats will just go up based on
equipping the Augments to the character. That is not the case. You must have the
Augments in your command box in order for them to take affect. That's the most
important thing to realize when stat maxing.

Note #3: Placing an Augment in the Auto-Battle command box will NOT give you the
required stats. The Augments must be in the regular command box in order to get
the required stat increases from them.

Note #4: Stat maxing takes place between levels 71-99. Once you reach level 70,
you are done with stat boosts. The rest of the stat boosts will depend on which
Augments you have equipped as you level up. So, in other words, you must level
up to max your stats. I suggest leveling up in floors B8-B11 in Lunar
Subterrane.

Note #5: Don't focus too much on using Augments that increase your HP and MP.
While you may do them in the process of maxing your other stats, they can be
increased with Soma Drops and Silver/Gold Apples. Don't waste your levels trying
to get those up, when there are items you can use to increase those. It may take
some time farming for them, but your main stats cannot be increased by any item.

Note #6: Finally, equipment can affect stats. For example, Rydia's Stardust Rod
maxes her Intellect to 99. However, if you do that, you can't get her max
attack, which is 110 from the Dragon Whisker. Therefore, you need to take into
consideration the kinds of equipment you want on your character. Adamant Armors
give your stats +15 increases, so you'll want to take that into consideration
too. Basically, you want to build your stats around the equipment you have.

This is all the basic information you need to know about maxing your stats. The
main one to be careful about it the equipment stat boosts. Make sure you know
which equipment you are going to keep on your characters before you start
equipping your Augments. Don't worry, you'll figure it out.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Augment Distribution
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is very important to distribute your Augments, so that each character can get
the max stats needed. I will provide one method to max your stats. It's kinda
hard to do this because Augment setups are based on personal preference, but
this method is proven to get your max stats. Here is a complete list of how to
distribute your Augments each playthrough:

This is just one setup you can use out of many. It's all about preference and
what you want to do. I will be providing two ways to max your stats. One way
is following this list, and the other is assuming you've given your second Limit
Break to Cecil along with ????'s Love.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Stat Boosts
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Below, I will list each Augment and tell you the stat boosts you can get from
those Augments. Keep in mind that these Augments must be in your command box in
order to get their increases. Also, AUTO-BATTLE COMMAND DOES NOT WORK FOR STAT
INCREASES!!!

Auto-Potion: Stamina+1, HP+10

Item Lore: Intellect+1

Counter: Stamina+1, Strength+1

Curse: Spirit+1, Stamina+1, Strength+1, MP+5

Cry: Spirit+1

Bluff: Intellect+1

Twincast x2: Intellect+1, MP+5

Dualcast: Intellect+1, MP+5

Tsunami: Intellect+1, Stamina+1, Strength+1, MP+5

Gil Farmer: Speed+1

Bardsong: Speed+1

Salve: Speed+1

Hide: Speed+1

Recall: Intellect+1, MP+5

Last Stand: Stamina+1, Strength+1, HP+10

Fast Talker: Intellect+1, MP+5

Whirlwind: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, Speed+1, MP+5

Draw Attacks: Stamina+1

Reach: Speed+1

Analyze: Intellect+1

Upgrade: Speed+1

Adrenaline: Strength+1

MP+50%: MP+10

Inferno: Stamina+1, Speed+1, Strength+1, MP+5

Darkness: Stamina+1, Strength+1, HP+10

Focus: Strength+2, HP+10

Kick: Strength+1

Brace: Stamina+1, HP+10

Level Lust: Strength+1

HP+50%: HP+10

Piercing Magic: Spirit+1, Intellect+1

Bless: Intellect+1

Omnicasting: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, MP+5

Phoenix: Spirit+2

Treasure Hunter: Speed+1

Eye Gouge: Intellect+1, MP+5

????'s Love: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, Stamina+1, Speed+1, Strength+1, MP+5, HP+10

Safe Travel: Speed+1

Limit Break: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, Stamina+1, Speed+1, Strength+1, MP+5, HP+10

And those are all the stat increases from the Augments. As you can see, Limit
Break and ????'s Love are the big two that will provide the most. You definitely
want to get those.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Stat Maxing
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here we are, the purpose of this guide. I'm going to provide you with two
methods to max your stats. Keep in mind, I'm not factoring in the equipment stat
increases because there are endless possible equiptions. If you want to know
which equipment increases stats, check Obishawn's Equipment/Item FAQ. I will,
however, tell you the max stats for the attack and defense. That is part of stat
maxing after all.

***************
*  Method #1  *
***************

This method consists of the three-playthrough Augment list I gave in section 3.
I will tell you how to max your stats by telling you which Augments to have in
your command box and for which levels. Here are the characters final stats at
level 70:

Name Str Spd Sta Int Spi
Cecil 73 41 70 36 41
Edge 61 72 48 35 24
Kain 71 54 56 12 39
Rosa 48 32 42 22 73
Rydia 36 33 34 72 54

[Credits go to SB Allen for this chart, which I took from his sweet
FAQ/Walkthrough for Final Fantasy IV.]

Okay, so let's max the characters individually one by one. We're going to start
with Cecil.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

CECIL

????'s Love: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, Stamina+1, Speed+1, Strength+1, MP+5, HP+10
(levels 71-99) = +29 Spirit, +29 Intellect, +29 Stamina, +29 Speed, +29
Strength, +145 MP, +290 HP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 70 99 65 70

Salve: Speed+1 (levels 71-99) = Spd +29

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 99 99 65 70

Omnicasting: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29 Spirit, + 29
Intellect, + 145 MP

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 99 99 94 99

Twincast: Intellect+1, MP+5 (Levels 71-75) = +5 Intellect, +25 MP

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 99 99 99 99

Congradualations, you have maxed Cecil. You may use other combos, but this
is a guaranteed 99 everything right here.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

KAIN

Limit Break: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, Stamina+1, Speed+1, Strength+1, MP+5, HP+10
(levels 71-99) = +29 Spirit, +29 Intellect, +29 Stamina, +29 Speed, +145 MP,
+290 HP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 73 85 41 68

Inferno: Stamina+1, Speed+1, Strength+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29 Stamina, +29
Speed, +29 Strength, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 99 99 41 68

Piercing Magic: Spirit+1, Intellect+1 (Levels 71-99) = +29 Intellect, +29
Spirit.

Omnicasting: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, MP+5 (Levels 71-99) = +29 Intellect, +29
Spirit, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 99 99 99 99

Okay, that takes care of Kain. As you can see, I gave Kain Piercing Magic and
Omnicasting as Edge already has a method to max stats without it, and they are
pretty worthless on Cecil, as all he has is supporting White Magic. It's best
to forget about the magic on Cecil and use Rosa for White Magic.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

RYDIA

Inferno: Stamina+1, Speed+1, Strength+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29 Stamina, +29
Speed, +29 Strength, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
65 62 63 72 54

Tsunami: Intellect+1, Stamina+1, Strength+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29
Intellect, +29 Stamina, +29 Strength, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
94 62 92 99 54

Whirlwind: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, Speed+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29 Spirit, +29
Intellect, +29 Speed, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
94 91 92 99 83

Phoenix: Spirit+2 (levels 71-79) = +16 Spirit.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
94 91 92 99 99

Counter: Stamina+1, Strength+1 (levels 80-87) = +8 Strength, +8 stamina.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 91 99 99 99

Reach: Speed+1 (levels 88-95) = +8 Speed.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 99 99 99 99

That will do it for Rydia. As you can see, I managed to max her stats without
the second Limit Break. I have found a better use for Limit Break rather than
giving it to her. For levels 96-99, you my equip an Augment that increases HP
or MP in place of Reach.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

ROSA

Whirlwind: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, Speed+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29 Spirit, +29
Intellect, +29 Speed, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
48 61 42 51 99

Tsunami: Intellect+1, Stamina+1, Strength+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29
Intellect, +29 Stamina, +29 Strength, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
77 61 71 80 99

Inferno: Stamina+1, Speed+1, Strength+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29 Stamina, +29
Speed, +29 Strength, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 90 99 80 99

Dualcast: Intellect+1, MP+5 (levels 71-89) = +19 Intellect, +95 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 90 99 99 99

Salve: Speed+1 (levels 90-98) = +9 Speed.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 99 99 99 99

Whew, I was able to revise a method to stat max Rosa. I had screwed up with my
Augment distributions, but I managed to max Rosa without giving her the Second
Limit Break. That can now be given to Rydia or Cecil. It's up to you who to give
it to, but I think that Cecil will give more damage than Rydia. Spenstah also
believes that LB should go to Cecil, as you'll see in his method.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

EDGE

Curse: Spirit+1, Stamina+1, Strength+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29 Spirit, +29
Stamina, +29 Strength, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
90 72 77 35 53

Whirlwind: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, Speed+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29 Spirit, +29
Intellect, +29 Speed, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
90 99 77 64 82

Phoenix: Spirit+2 (levels 71-79) = +18 Spirit.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
90 99 77 64 99

Tsunami: Intellect+1, Stamina+1, Strength+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29
Intellect, +29 Stamina, +29 Strength, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 99 99 99 99

Finally, we've maxed Edge. As you can see, Edge still has 80-99 for a command.
You can replace Phoenix with an HP/MP boosted Augment to prevent less farming
for Soma Drops and Silver/Gold Apples.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Whew, that took a while. As you can see, I was able to successfully max my stats
by using the given Augment setup. There are many more setups you can use to max
your stats; you just have to experiment and try new things. It took me a while
to get it out on paper, but once you've got everything up to 99, it's the best
feeling in the world.

***************
*  Method #2  *
***************

This method was taken directly from Spenstah's awesome Kain and Cecil Augment
FAQ on the Final Fantasy IV DS board. In his method, ????'s love (he calls it
Kluya's Love) and Limit Break are given to cecil besides giving Rydia the second
Limit Break. Here is what he has to say and his Augment distribution.

SBallen and GauRocks think giving LB to Rydia is a must, and by deciding between
the two, you choose your #1 damage dealer: Cecil or Kain. They both can agree
that you must give ???'s love (I'm calling it Kluya's Love from now on, since
that's what I put) to one you didn't give LB to, even though the two combine
wonderfully. Action's guide isn't set in stone just yet, but at the time of
posting, he agrees with them.

That's why I'm here, to present an augment guide that puts Cecil and Kain at the
top, and showcases what Kluya's love can really do. This guide was constructed
with bits and pieces from SBAllen's guide, GauRocks's guide, and some of my own
strategy. Compared to SBAllen, you get more use out of Kluya's Love, Limit
Break, Bluff, and Recall. Compared to GauRocks, it's more of a toss-up. In
exchange for less of Inferno, Tsunami, Adrenaline and Eye Gouge, you get 1st
playthrough twincasting, more use out of recall, level lust, the two +50%s,
Kluya's love, and Limit break. And with that, I'll start my new guide, beginning
now.

CECIL

Kluya's Love: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, Stamina+1, Speed+1, Strength+1, MP+5, HP+10
(levels 71-99) = +29 Spirit, +29 Intellect, +29 Stamina, +29 Speed, +29
Strength, +145 MP, +290 HP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 70 99 65 70

Limit Break: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, Stamina+1, Speed+1, Strength+1, MP+5, HP+10
(levels 71-99) = +29 Spirit, +29 Intellect, +29 Stamina, +29 Speed, +145 MP,
+290 HP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 99 99 94 99

Dualcast: Intellect +1, MP +5 (Levels 71-75) = +5 Intellect, +5 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 99 99 99 99

Okay, as you can see, giving both Kluya's Love and Limit Break to Cecil allows
him to reach the max stats much more quickly than without. If you decide to
follow this setup, you have complete freedom in choosing the replacement command
for Dualcast from levels 86-99. You also have a fourth command available from
levels 71-99. You may choose a command that focuses on HP/MP to prevent less
time farming.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

KAIN

Limit Break: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, Stamina+1, Speed+1, Strength+1, MP+5, HP+10
(levels 71-99) = +29 Spirit, +29 Intellect, +29 Stamina, +29 Speed, +145 MP,
+290 HP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 73 85 41 68

Tsunami: Intellect+1, Stamina+1, Strength+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29
Intellect, +29 Stamina, +29 Strength, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 73 99 70 68

Omnicasting: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29 Spirit, + 29
Intellect, + 145 MP

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 73 99 99 97

Phoenix: Spirit+2 (Levels 71-72) = +2 Spirit.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 73 99 99 99

Upgrade: Speed+1 (Levels 71-96) = +26 Speed.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 99 99 99 99

Alright, that does it for Kain. He's still got a slot to replace Phoenix and
Upgrade after those respective levels. As always, I suggest HP/MP increasing
Augments that will make Soma Drop and Silver/Gold Apple farming less tedious.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

RYDIA

Inferno: Stamina+1, Speed+1, Strength+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29 Stamina, +29
Speed, +29 Strength, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
65 62 63 72 54

Whirlwind: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, Speed+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29 Spirit, +29
Intellect, +29 Speed, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
65 91 63 99 79

Curse: Spirit+1, Stamina+1, Strength+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29 Spirit, +29
Stamina, +29 Strength, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
94 91 92 99 99

Salve: Speed+1 (Levels 71-78) = +8 Speed

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
94 99 92 99 99

Counter: Stamina+1, Strength+1 (Levels 79-85) = +7 Strength, +7 Stamina.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 99 99 99 99

And Rydia's stats are, once again, easily maxed without the second Limit Break.
In two examples now, it has been proven that giving the second Limit Break to
Rydia is not an "absolute must". She still has an available slot after level 85,
so give her that MP+50% to bring up her MP.

ROSA

Whirlwind: Spirit+1, Intellect+1, Speed+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29 Spirit, +29
Intellect, +29 Speed, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
48 61 42 51 99

Inferno: Stamina+1, Speed+1, Strength+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29 Stamina, +29
Speed, +29 Strength, +145 MP.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi
99 90 99 80 99

Tsunami: Intellect+1, Stamina+1, Strength+1, MP+5 (levels 71-99) = +29
Intellect, +29 Stamina, +29 Strength, +145 MP.

Bardsong: Speed+1 (Levels 71-79) = +9 Speed.

Str Spd Sta Int Spi

Rosa is the most difficult character to completely max stats. I have to give
kudos to Spenstah for coming up with a method to max Rosa that doesn't involve
wasting the second Limit Break. I didn't have the patience to come up with a
good setup after failing so many times.

EDGE

And that's how you max Edge. He wasn't too hard, but he does have very low
Intellect. That's why it is strongly recommended you equip him with a lot of
Intellect boosting Augments. Also, this is the second method I've shown you to
max everybody. That wasn't too hard, was it?

- Supercheats.com for hosting this guide.

- Neoseekers.com for hosting this guide.

- SB Allen's sweet FAQ/Walkthrough, where I got the final stats of the final
party at level 70. I also used one of his stat maxing strategies for Cecil, and
I have combined some of his Augment distribution with that of Gau's and my own
personal setup.

- Gau Rocks because I used part of his Augment distributions, along with SB
Allen's and my own personal setup.

- Spenstah for agreeing to let me use his Augment setup for a second method
to max the stats. Thank you, man.

- Ignasia 7 who helped Spenstah with his Cecil-Kain Augment Guide. Spenstah
wished for a good portion of the credit to go to him.

- NorthernDruid for pointing out a simple calculation error and confirming
the fact that I need to go back to first grade math.

- Mystery500's Augment FAQ, which is where I got the stat increases from.
Bro, if you are reading this, Safe Travel give +1 Speed.

- CheezkidII for sending me an email and telling me the stat increase for
Safe Travel. He was my first reader mail, so he deserves big thanks for that
and the info he provided.

- Action because I used his note about giving Edge Whirlwind in order to max
his stats.

write various FAQs for this wonderful masterpiece.

- nosamename and Obishawn for pointing out some technical errors with the
calculations or guide format.

- Everyone who emailed me with comments, questions, information tidbits, and
other nice emails.

9. Version History
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Version 1.00 November 27th, 2008: First version of the guide submitted. It
covers information about stat maxing and one method to max your stats.

Version 1.1 December 2nd, 2008: Added two new sites approved to use this guide
and added a version history. I'm gonna try some more stat maxing combos and
possibly add those in as well.

Version 1.2 December 11th, 2008: Added another method to max stats from
Spenstah's Cecil-Kain Augment guide. Thank you for allowing me to use this. I
also got my first email pointing out that Safe Travel does give stat increases.
A very big thank you to CheezkiddII.

Version 1.3 December 15, 2008: Fixed a calculation error for Cecil's Intellect
in both methods. This just shows I need to go back to first grade math. Thank
you to NorthDruid for pointing out the area. Also, I updated the credits section
to credit more individuals for helping me with this guide.

Version 1.4 December 16, 2008: I realized that I had given Tsunami to four
characters when there were only three Tsunamis. I also came up with a better way
to max Rosa's stats without wasting Limit Break. You see, I meant to give Rosa
Whirlwind, but I accidentally gave it to Kain. Thus, I couldn't come up with an
easy method. By implementing Inferno, Tsunami, and Whirlwind on Rosa, it was
easy to come up with a stat maxing method. Those errors have been corrected, and
I also changed Kain's stat maxing method. You'll see that some of the Augments
have changed in the list.

Version 1.5. March 18th, 2009: It's a little late, but Happy New Year to my
readers. Here's to a new year of productive FAQ writing and good fortune. I
fixed some more errors, added the stat increase for Safe Travel, and changed
the email address to contact me at. If anybody sent questions to the previous
email, I apologize for not answering them. That account is long gone, so please
re-send your questions to the new email. I will hopefully be publishing the
final version of this FAQ soon; however, I want to make sure that it is as
perfect as possible. If you spot anything wrong, PLEASE send me an email ASAP.

10. Final Word
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, this concludes my guide for stat maxing. I hope you found it helpful in
maxing your character's stats. I had a blast writing my first guide, and I plan
on doing more in the future. Look for later works by me. Happy reading.
