    Hello and welcome to my FAQ for Ultimate Mortal Kombat! In this guide you will
    find detailed information for just about every aspect of the game. From move
    lists to those pesky unlockables. I wrote this guide because at the time 
    there were not any other guides posted for the game on GameFAQs, and I am a
    huge fan of the Mortal Kombat series. So, the chance to write an entire guide
    for a Mortal Kombat game that has not been covered yet is sort of like a dream
    of mine...or at the very least, something I definitely wanted to accomplish
    during my tenure as an FAQ writer. I hope this helps you, the reader, out.
    Even if one person found this to be a little useful my efforts were not in
    vain.
    
    To give you a little background information about the game, Ultimate Mortal
    Kombat is a DS port of the best-selling and almost universally known fighting
    game title, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Much like every other earlier version of
    Mortal Kombat, it was ported multiple times on several different systems from
    the arcade. This is another "arcade pefect" port of the title - meaning if
    it was not in the arcade version it is probably not included in this game.
    
    This package also contains the addicting Puzzle Kombat game, which first made
    it's debut some years back in Mortal Kombat: Deception along with Chess Kombat.
    I have not played Deception in several years, so I am hesitant to say if the
    version found in this game is a direct port of the one in Deception or if it is
    it's own unique version - but hey, that is what future updates are for, right?
    Heh. This game was released in North America in November 2007 and is notable
    for having a profile/save system set up (This would not happen in the series
    until Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance if memory serves correctly) as well as
    online play via Nintendo's Wi-Fi system. With that being said, it is on to the
    FAQ itself!

    II. Story [st08]
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    
    You have been chosen to represent Earth in Mortal Kombat. Be warned. Although
    your souls are protected against Shao Kahn's evil; your lives are not. I cannot
    interfere any longer as your Earth is now ruled by the Outworld Gods. These are
    the words of Raiden.
    
    For centuries Earth has used Mortal Kombat to defend itself against the
    Outworld's Emperor, Shao Kahn. But, Kahn becomes frustrated by failed attempts
    at taking Earth through tournament battle. He enacts a plan which began
    10,000 years ago.
    
    During this time Kahn had a queen. Her name was Sindel and her young death was
    unexpected. Kahn's shadow priests, lead by Shang Tsung, make it so that Sindel
    's spirit would someday be reborn - Not on the Outworld but Earth Realm itself.
    
    This unholy act gives Shao Kahn the power to step through the dimensional gates
    and reclaim his queen. Thus enabling him to finally seize the Earth Realm.
    
    Upon breaching the portal into Earth, Shao Kahn slowly transforms the planet
    into a part of the Outworld itself.
    
    Kahn strips the Earth of all human life: claiming every soul as his own.
    
    But there are souls which Kahn cannot take. These souls belong to the warriors
    chosen to represent Earth in a new Mortal Kombat.
    
    The remaining humans are scattered throughout the planet. Shao Kahn sends an
    army of fierce Outworld warriors to find and eliminate them.
    
    After the first tournament Sonya Blade turned up missing. Jax then embarked on
    a rescue mission into the Outworld. He found Sonya being held captive with her
    nemesis Kano. In freeing Sonya, Jax also frees Kano. Kano then uses the chance
    to escape arrest.
    
    The ultimate advancement in Lin Kuei technology comes with the creation of the
    first cyber-assassin. They begin converting their human ninjas into soulless
    machines. But Sub-Zero refuses to take part and is marked for death by his own
    clan.
    
    After winning the first Mortal Kombat and escaping from the Outworld, Liu Kang
    looks to the future. He begins training a new generation of shaolin alongside
    Kung Lao. But nothing could prepare them for the unexpected Outworld invasion.

    Kombat. This section also details the abbrevations for each function.

    IV. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Kombatant Moves List [umk16]

    The following is just about everything and anything you want to know about
    the Kombatants in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. It is worth mentioning that there
    are in fact Stage Fatalities present in this game, they are just not listed
    with the other moves you see on the screen - go figure. This section will
    provide biographies as well as an extensive listing of their special and
    finishing moves.
    
    Close means that you must be right next to your opponent, Half Screen means
    that you have to be about halfway of the screen apart from them, Full screen
    means that you must be on the complete opposite side of the screen as them,
    Sweep means close, just enough to trip them up. And naturally, Outside Sweep
    is referring to how you have to be just out of the range to trip them up.

     Kitana [kit1]

    Kitana is accused of high treason by the high courts of the Outworld after
    murdering her evil twin Mileena. Shao Kahn appoints a group of warriors
    specifically to catch his daughter and bring her back alive. But Kitana must
    find a way to reach the newly crowned queen Sindel first and warn her of their
    true past.

    Sonya disappeared after the first tournament but was later rescued from the
    Outworld by Jax. After returning to Earth she and Jax try to warn the U.S.
    government of the looming Outworld menace. Lacking proof, they watch helplessly
    as Shao Kahn begins his invasion.

    Works as a historian and preserver of his people's culture. When Kahn's portal
    opens over North America, Nightwolf uses his shamans to protect his tribe's

    When Shao Kahn makes a failed attempt at stealing the souls which occupy
    Earth's hell. Scorpion is able to escape from the nether region. Free to roam
    the Earth once more, Scorpion holds allegiance with no one. He's a wild card
    in Earth's struggle against the Outworld.

    Kano is thought to have been killed in the first tournament. Instead he's
    found alive in the Outworld where he once again escapes capture by Sonya.
    Before the actual Outworld invasion, Kano convinces Shao Kahn to spare his
    soul. Kahn needs someone to teach his warriors how to use Earth's weapons. Kano
    is the man to do it.

    Sektor is actually the code name for unit LK-9T9. He was the first of three
    prototype cybernetic ninjas built by the Lin Kuei. Sektor was once a human
    assassin trained by the Lin Kuei. He volunteered for automation because of his
    loyalty for the clan. Sektor survives the Outworld invasion - he has no soul
    to take.

    When the Outworld portal opens over a large city in North America, panic and
    chaos rage out of control. Kurtis Stryker was the leader of a riot control
    brigade when Shao Kahn began taking souls. He finds himself the lone survivor
    of a city once populated by millions.

    Cyrax is unit LK-4D4. The 2nd of three prototype cybernetic ninjas built by
    the Lin Kuei. Like his counterparts his last programmed command is to find and
    terminate the rogue ninja Sub-Zero. Without a soul, Cyrax goes undetected by
    Shao Kahn and remains a possible threat against this occupation of Earth.

    Kung Lao's plan to reform the white lotus society comes to a halt when Shao
    Kahn's invasion takes the Earth by storm. As a choosen warrior Kung Lao must
    use his greatest fighting skills to bring down Shao Kahn's reign of terror.

    to end Shao Kahn's conquest.

    She was hand picked by Shao Kahn to serve as Sindel's personal protector. She
    becomes suspicious of Shao Kahn's loyalty to her race of Shokan when he places
    Motaro as the leader of his extermination squads. On the Outworld Motaro's
    race of Centaurians are the natural enemy of the Shokan.

    To select Human Smoke, select the robot Smoke and as the battle begins (Just
    before the "FIGHT!" text is displayed, press and hold BLK+RN+HP+HK+B. If done

    V. Puzzle Kombat [pzz23]
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    
    First introduced in the smash-hit Mortal Kombat: Deception, Puzzle Kombat is
    Mortal Kombat's version of the popular game Tetris...except with a few twists,
    Mortal Kombat style!
    
    The objective is to keep the Blocks below the red Kaution Banner. The banner
    is located at the top of the puzzle. The user that has Puzzle Pieces above the
    banner loses the round.
    
    A Puzzle Piece consists of two objects, comprised of Blocks, Breakers and Bombs
    . Blocks and Breakers can be one of four colors. Colors do vary, so keep your
    attention on the "Next" box so you know what to expect. Blocks are used as the
    building blocks (crappy pun) for Puzzle Kombat. Blocks are to be placed at the
    bottom of the screen and can be positioned however you like. Blocks can be
    paired up with other Blocks, Breakers, or Bombs.
    
    Breakers: Colored dragon symbols that are used to break blocks. Simply match
    up breakers up with the appropriate colored block to break them. When you
    break apart blocks the number of broken blocks is transferred over to your
    opponent's side. So if you pull off a wicked combo that breaks 40 blocks, your
    foe will suddenly find themselves with 40 extra blocks to deal with.
    
    Bombs: Bombs are used to clear all Blocks of one color. This is done by
    dropping the Bomb on the desired color that you want to break. You get a Bomb
    Bonus when a Bomb is not dropped on a Block or Breaker but on the bottom of a
    puzzle. The Bomb Bonus boosts your Super Meter.
    
    Super Meter: As you break blocks your Super Meter will gradually fill up. Once
    the meter is full press the Y button to use your fighter's special move. Each
    fighter has their own distinct special move that has some effect on the game.
    You must use your Special within twenty (20) seconds of it filling up. They
    cannot be stored for later use, and once it's gone (either you use it or time
    expires before you can use it) your Super Meter will be empty and you will
    have to fill it back up again.
    
    
    Secret Puzzle Kombat Kombatants:
    --------------------------------
    
    Raiden - Achieve a 5X Combo break in any round
    Kenshi - Win any round of a Puzzle Kombat match against the computer with
    multiple Combos
    Bo Rai Cho - Score over 19000 in any round
    Jade - Beat Puzzle Kombat (CPU only) without using a continue
    Mileena - Win a round in under one minute
    
    - Most of that was loosely based on what you find in the game's instruction
    booklet.
    
    Some tips...
    
    - Try and group as many like colored blocks as possible, over a large chain.
    If executed correctly you will not only break a large amount, but you will also
    open up the possibility for multiple combos in one string, which will seriously
    mess up your opponent's chi
    
    - Special moves should be used with a purpose. The well-timed Freeze or Double
    Bomb could dramatically swing the direction of the fight.
    
    - You are told how many blocks your opponent is about to drop on you, in the
    Kaution Banner's display. This gives you a brief few moments to plan your next
    few moves.

    VI. Arcade Mode [arc42]
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    
    The main single player mode of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. There are four tiers
    in total to select from - Novice, Warrior, Master, Master (pretty original eh?)
    . They range in difficulty from easiest to most difficult, with each one being
    more difficult than the last - as well as longer than the last. Thankfully
    you get an unlimited amount of credits ("Free Play" as it is called) so you
    cannot get a Game Over unless you do so deliberately. In each Destiny tier
    you will face an Endurance match (sometimes two) as well as Motaro, and to end
    things, Shao Kahn himself.
    
    After each Kombatant you defeat, you will face another one. The battles get
    tougher as you move higher up on the tier, especially so if you continue on a
    streak of victories.

    VII. Nintendo Wi-Fi [ni108]
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    
    A big feature of Ultimate Mortal Kombat is the ability to take your game online
    via Nintendo's Wi-Fi network. You can play both Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and
    Puzzle Kombat either with someone in the same room as you, in the same country
    as you, or even halfway across the world from you!
    
    
    DS Download Play:
    -----------------
    
    If you want to play with someone else but only one of you has a copy of the
    game, no problem! Choose "Local Wireless" from the Main Menu, and select
    "DS Download Play" to connect to another Nintendo DS.
    
    To connect, the player without a Game Card must select the DS Download Play
    option on their DS system. The two DS systems will connect, and you will be
    able to play the game, albeit not without some restrictions.
    
    
    Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection:
    --------------------------
    
    Nintendo WFC Match: Allows you to connect to a wireless network to play against
    other people around the world. For both Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 as well as
    Puzzle Kombat.
    
    
    Friend: Allows you to play a match against any of your registered Friends.
    
    Rated: Searches for a game against a player whose Rating is a close match to
    yours. As your Rating increases, you'll find yourself playing better players
    who match your level of skill.
    
    Worldwide: Lets you search all across the world for any player willing to play
    a match, regardless if whether or not they are your Friend.
    
    Friends Roster: Anyone you have exchanged Friend Codes with will be listed
    here. This makes it incredibly easy to set up games with people your friends.
    
    Friend Code: Your Friend Code may be viewed on the top screen by selecting
    "My Info" on the Friend Roster. This 12 digit number is the same all three
    different profiles use per Game Card. Exchanging Friend Codes is the only way
    to add players to your Friend Roster.

    Aside from the unlockable characters you can use in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
    and Puzzle Kombat, everything else is obtained by completing the game's main
    single player Arcade mode. Most of Kahn's Lost Treasures cannot be selected
    unless you complete more difficult Destiny tiers - the second Master one will
    grant you access to every Treasure, with every other one offering less and less 
    options. You can unlock a character's arcade ending from completing any tier,
    so there's no need to feel too ashamed of yourself if you only run through the
    Novice tier, heh.

    IX. Frequently Asked Questions [faq4]
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    
    The following is a fairly comprehensive listing of questions and answers
    new players may have regarding Ultimate Mortal Kombat. Even seasoned veterans
    may find this information to be useful.
    
    Q: Where are Noob Saibot and Rain, why can't I play as them?
    A: In the original arcade version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Rain and Noob
    Saibot were not selectable. In later ports of the game, the Super Nintendo and
    Genesis I believe, they were added.
    
    Q: Are Brutalities present in this game?
    A: No, again, because they were added in later ports of the game and not
    included in the original arcade version.
    
    Q: The Fatalities don't work for me, what gives?
    A: Chances are you're not at the proper distance, make sure of that first.
    Also, some moves require you to press Up. To avoid jumping up simply hold the
    Block button while putting these combinations in. Release it at the right time
    to ensure the Fatality combination registers properly.
    
    Q: How do I select a Kombatant randomly?
    A: Player 1 must highlight Kitana at the "Select Your Fighter" screen and press
    Up+Start. If you're Player 2, do the same thing, except instead of Kitana you
    have to highlight Scorpion.
    
    Q: Why can't I do an Animality?
    A: Firstly, make absolutely sure you perform a Mercy. In order to pull off a
    Mercy you must be in the third round of a fight. Then when it is time to deal
    the finishing blow to your opponent ("FINISH HIM/HER!") make sure you are
    outside sweeping distance, about halfway across, press and hold the Run button
    and while you are holding Run press Down three times, then release the Run
    button. This should give your opponent a little more health. And thus, you can
    perform an Animality without much trouble...assuming you imput the proper
    button sequence.
    
    Q: How can I put in the Kombat Kodes to unlock Mileena, Ermac and Classic
    Sub-Zero?
    A: Lose any single player arcade match and let the timer run down to zero.
    You will be prompted to put in one of three Kombat Kodes. You can only put
    in one at a time.
    
    Q: What's that little green meter under my health bar? And why does it turn
    red?
    A: That would be the Run Bar, it is there to make sure you don't continuously
    run or pull off an unbroken chain of combination attacks.
