Introduction to Fire Emblem
===========================
-------------
IA The series
-------------
Fire Emblem is a popular tactic based video game series developed by
Intelligent Systems. Chances are that you first heard of the series by seeing
the characters Marth and Roy in Super Smash Bros. Melee, or seeing Marth, Ike,
and Lyn in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

There are currently eleven games in the Fire Emblem series, this being the
eleventh. This is the order they were made. I will be listing the Japanese
names and release dates until the seventh, when I will switch to the U.S. ones.

-Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryu to Hikari no Ken-1990, NES
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon is a remake of this game. It was the first in the
Fire Emblem series. The story is about prince Marth and his quest to defeat
the Earth Dragon Medeus.

-Fire Emblem Gaiden-1992, NES
Takes place in the same world as the first, but on a different continent. Some
characters from the first game appear in it. The story is about Alm and
Celica, two childhood friends that basically just fight the forces of evil and
such.

-Fire Emblem: Monsho No Nazo-1994, SNES
In addition to having a remake of the first game, the story continues with a
Book 2 which is what happens to Marth after a mysterious betrayal.

-Fire Emblem: Seisen No Keifu-1996, SNES
One of the most popular Fire Emblem games, it stars Sigurd and his son Celice
(later in the game) as they fight the followers of a dark god. It is the first
Fire Emblem game to use character skills.

-Fire Emblem: Thracia 776-1999, SNES
Often considered the hardest Fire Emblem Game, it is a side story to Seisen No
Keifu. The story stars Leaf prince of Lenster as he fights to avenge the
deaths of his parents.

-Fire Emblem: Fuiin no Tsurugi-2002, GBA
The first title to be released for the GBA, it stars Prince Roy as he tries to
stop a militant nation from using the power of dragons. His father and the
father of his friend Lilina are protagonists Fire Emblem.

-Fire Emblem-2003, GBA
The first internationally released game in the series, it stars Eliwood,
father of Roy, Hector, Eliwoodís friend and father of Lilina, and Lyn, who can
marry Eliwood, Hector, or the nomad Rath. They are trying to stop a group of
assassins controlled by a power hungry man.

-Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones-2005, GBA
This game uses many features used in Gaiden, such as a traversable World Map,
monster battles, and branching promotions. It stars royal twins Ephraim and
Eirika as they fight off a sudden invasion from a nearby empire.

-Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance-2005, GameCube
 The first Fire Emblem to use voice acting and 3D graphics. It uses the skill
system from Seisen no Keifu and Thracia 776. It also introduces the laguz,
animalistic people who can transform into a variety of creatures. It is also
the first Fire Emblem game to have a main character that isnít a noble or
royalty. It stars the mercenary Ike as he protects a princess and fights a mad
king.

-Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn-2007, Wii
The sequel to Radiant Dawn, it starts with a young girl named Micaiah living
in the ruins of the Daein Empire as she tries to rebuild it. She and Ike later
cross paths. All playable characters from Radiant Dawn are playable again,
with the exception of Largo, the berserker.

-Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon-2009, Nintendo DS
The remake of the first game, and the game this guide is about. It has many
new features and some new characters.

-------------
IB The Basics
-------------
This section is for briefly explaining how the game works. This part is very
broad, and if youíre looking for gameplay advice, I suggest looking at one of
the walkthroughs.

So basically, youíre in control of the blue units, and your enemy controls the
red guys. Your job is to fulfill the requirements of the Chapter youíre on. In
this game, the goal of almost every chapter is to have your lord and
protagonist Marth to seize the castle or throne. On your way, your units
obliterate the enemy army on their way to the seize point, recruiting new
characters along the way. Not too bad right?

Now, Iíll get into statistics. Hereís how they work:

HP (health points)-The amount of health the character has. The damage a
character takes is subtracted from their HP, and once it hits zero, they die.

Str (strength)-The higher the strength, the more damage the character will do
when using a weapon.

Mag (magic)-The higher the magic, the more damage the character will heal when
using a staff, and the more damage theyíll do with a tome or the weapon Levin
Sword.

Skl (skill)-Affects chance of hitting and chance of a critical hit.

Spd (speed)-If it is four points higher than your opponentís, you will attack
again. Also affects dodge.

Lck (luck)-Affects your dodge rate and lowers chance of an enemy critical hit.

Def (defense)-Lowers damage weapons do to you.

Res (resistance)-Lowers damage tomes and Levin Swords do to you.

Now for the weapons. swords, lances, and axes. This game has a weapon
triangle, where certain weapons have an advantage over others, affecting
things like hit rate and damage.

-Swords beat axes and lose to axes. Fast and accurate but weak.

-Axes beat lances and lose to swords. Very strong but heavy and inaccurate.

-Lances beat swords and lose to axes. A balanced weapon.

There are four other weapons, bows, ballistae, magic tomes and stones.

-Bows are for long ranged (2-3 spaces) combat only. They do extra damage to
flying units.

-Ballistae can only be used by ballisticians. They attack from long range and
can not be countered against. Thunderbolts are strong against other
ballisticians and Arrowspates are strong against fliers.

-Magic tomes do damage determined by magic and resistance instead of strength
and defense.

-Stones are only usable by manaketes. They are used to transform into dragons.
Firestones are the basic ones. Magestones prevent magic from doing damage to
the unit and Divinestones do extra damage to other manaketes.

This game uses a new system called class swap. Basically a character can
change their class to anything in their class set. This will affect starting
stats, weapons, movement, and stat growths. Here are the sets:

Male Set A unpromoted
Cavalier, Archer, Myrmidon, Mage, Curate

Male Set B unpromoted
Knight, Mercenary, Fighter, Hunter, Pirate, Dark Mage

Female set unpromoted
Pegasus Knight, Archer, Myrmidon, Mage, Cleric

Male Set A promoted
Paladin, Sniper, Swordsmaster, Sage, Bishop, Dracoknight

Male Set B promoted
General, Hero, Warrior, Horseman, Berserker, Sorcerer

Female Set promoted
Dracoknight/Falcon Knight*, Sniper, Swordsmaster, Sage, Bishop, Paladin

*=Unit either has Dracoknight OR Falcon Knight in her class set if promoted by
a Master Seal (Drakoknight) or Elysian Whip (Falcon Knight, only available on
the online shop).

Thieves, ballisticians, manaketes, Xane (Only Freelancer/Chameleon) and Marth
are unable to class change.

Many units benefit greatly from class swap. For example, Sedgar makes a good
Horseman, but as a General he will be practically indestructible in the story
mode. However, some characters are better as their default class, like Hardin,
who should remain as a Cavalier to Paladin.

Now letís talk about wi-fi. It is a mode that allows you to fight others using
teams of five units maximum. Some classes are considered useless on this mode,
such as Heroes who are inferior to Swordsmasters and Generals who will get
doubled by most other classes due to their speed cap. If you want to make a
good wi-fi team, it is recommended that you buy and forge Brave weapons from
the online shop. Brave weapons double the amount of attacks the character has
when equipped, making them some of the most useful weapons on wi-fi.

Name differences between U.S. and European versions:
Caeda vs. Shiida
Navarre vs. Nabarl
Freelancer vs. Chameleon
Archaneia vs. Akaneia
Medon vs. Macedon
Dolhr vs. Doluna

I will likely be using the U.S. names throughout my guide.
Well, in case you couldnít tell, this a guide on the characters you recruit
throughout the game. So without further ado, letís get started! Well, after
the quick FAQ.

===================================
II FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
===================================

Q: Are Marth, Roy, and Ike in this game?
A: Marth is the main character. Roy is the main character of Fire Emblem Fuiin
no Tsurugi (Japan only) and Ike is the main character of Fire Emblem: Path of
Radiance and one of the main characters of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.

Q: Should I buy this game?
A: If you are a fan of games such as Advance Wars, you will probably like the
Fire Emblem series. Though this is a good game to start the series with, the
plot is mediocre because itís a remake of a very old game. If you are a
veteran, you would probably like it due to the six difficulty levels and the
replayability class swap offers. However, like I said, if youíre a stickler
for a good plot this may not be the game for you.

Q: How do I beat chapteró
A: This is an FAQ about the characters. It is not a walkthrough.

Q: Iíve heard Sedgar and Wolf are good, but theyíre failing really badly!
A: Wolf and Sedgar start bad, but every level up boosts their stats by insane
amounts. Once they hit their max level, they will be nearly unstoppable.

Q: Why do you give characters a separate rating for their stats and
usefulness, but other users only gave one score?
A: I originally planned to rate characters based solely on stats, but halfway
through the guide, I decided that I should also talk about how useful the
character is ingame. Unfortunately, this was after everyone gave their ratings.

Q: What is this ďRNGĒ Iíve heard about?
A: RNG=Random Number Generator. It is the system that determines the random
parts of the game, such as stat-ups and whether an attack will hit or miss.

Q: What is RNG abuse?
A: Using a save point right before a character levels up, leveling them up,
them restarting from that save until they get a good level up. This is vital
for a good wi-fi team.

Q: What is this Triangle Attack?
A: The Triangle attack happens when you surround an enemy with the three
Whitewings (Palla, Catria, and Est) and initiate an attack with one of them.
This results in an instant critical, though only the one initiating the attack
will get experience.

Hereís how it looks:
--WEW--
---W---
-------

E=Enemy unit
W=Whitewing sister

Q: How is the Triangle attack good for?
A: In addition to instantly killing most enemies, it is a great way to level
up Est (if she initiated the attack), because she will get a lot of experience
without fear of retaliation. To do that properly, have her initiate the attack
on a mounted unit while she weilds the Ridersbane.

Q: Earlier you said this guide wasnít a walkthrough, so why did you mention
the Triangle Attack?
A: It seemed significant enough to be mentioned.

Q: What are Arena and Boss abuse?
A: They are both ways of easily leveling up units. Arena abuse is training a
character in the arena to gain levels and money. Boss abuse is attacking a
boss that is on a throne or some other type of healing tile, letting them
heal, then attacking them again. Both ways are good for leveling characters
that are underleveled or difficult to train, such as Est, Radd, Dolph and
Elice.

Q: In the averages section, why does that character have resistance/defense
even though they have no growth in it?
A: They either started with it, or they gained it from promoting. Upon
promotion, characters improve in most stats, even those that they donít grow
in.

Q: Where did you get all the statistics?
A: I got them from serenesforest.net. This is the perfect website for
information on all things Fire Emblem.

Q: Why did you write this guide?
A: As of the time I am typing this, there is no in-depth character guide for
this game, so I decided to make one.

Q: I have some questions. How do I contact you?
A: Well, if you must, my email address is royalpersonguy@gmail.com. I will
remove this if I am spammed or flamed.

Q: You suck! This game sucks! GameFAQs sucks! Life sucks!
A: That is not a question. If anyone emails me something like this, I will
remove my above email address.

Q: Why shouldnít I use Jagen? You said heís a bad unit, but heís really strong!
A: Jagen is a character of the Jeigan archetype. Characters of this archetype
are usually a paladin that comes early. However, they will end up being
mediocre in the end. Jagen does however have uses on Hard 5 mode, where his
Silver Lance is almost necessary for the early levels. Actually, all
prepromoted characters in this game are bad or mediocre except for Wolf and
Sedgar.

Q: SoÖwhatís an archetype?
An archetype is a version of a character that appeared in one of the early
games, and many characters are similar statistically or character-wise to the
original. Japanese names are used for the archetype names. I canít explain
it properly, so Iíll list the archetypes:

NOTE: Many archetypes are still being debated about existing or not. I have
listed the archetypes that I believe are important enough to be noted.

-Jeigan-A paladin that comes early among characters that start weaker than
him, but becomes a bad unit in the end. Some examples are Jagen and Marcus.

-Oguma-A mercenary that starts great and stays great. Usually joins
automatically and with others. Some examples are Ogma, Dieck, and Gerik.

-Navarre-A sword character that starts as an enemy and with a Killing Edge.
Usually has some sort of connection to a staff user and thief. Some examples
are Navarre/Nabarl, Guy, and Rutger.

-Cain and Abel-Two cavaliers, one red, one green. One excels in strength and
defense, the other in speed and skill. Usually the red is strong while the
green is fast, but some switched that rule (Kent and Sain, Kyle and Forde).
Some examples are Cain and Abel, Alan and Lance, and Kieran and Oscar (PoR
versions).

-Est-A character that comes pitifully underleved, but becomes amazing if
trained. The general definition of this archetype is just an underleveled
character that joins very late, but surpasses others easily if trained. Some
examples are Est, Sophia, and Nino.

-Oifaye-Basically a Jeigan that becomes good in the end. Some examples are
Oifaye, Seth, and Titania (PoR).

Chiki-Not sure if this is an archetype, but I believe it is. A dragon
character that starts at a low level and can often solo the final boss. Some
examples are Tiki, Fa/Fae, and Myrrh.

-Gato-Again, not sure if this is an archetype either, but it seems to be a
character that joins either barely before the last level or at the last level
that gives underleveled people a chance to pass the final chapter. Some
examples are Gotoh, Athos, Karel (FE6), and one of the three reinforcements
you can call in PoRís last chapter (Giffca, Tibarn, Naesala).

Q: How do I shot web?
A: No spam please.

Q: Hey! You made a typo/error!
A: Then contact me with my email address listed at in the FAQ section. Anyone
who helps me find mistakes get a place in the acknowledgements section.

III Character Bios and Opinions
===============================
NOTE: This section is full of opinions and contains some ratings that were
submitted by fanboys/girls and/or haters. Some may judge them only based on
stats, some based on usefulness, and many other reasons, leaving often
inaccurate averages. Do not, I repeat DO NOT take these ratings to heart,
because as I said before, they are opinions. I am sorry if you disagree with
anything in this section, but please donít whine to me about it.

This is what I consider the main section of the guide. Hereís how the
character rating and opinion stuff works:

============================
(insert character name here)
============================
Starts as: (insert characterís starting class here)
Gender: (insert characterís gender)
Appearance: (insert character appearance here)
Bio: (insert characterís role in the story)
Recruitment: (insert how to recruit the character)
Notable stats: (insert characters good, great, or best stats)
Stat score: (insert my rating based on stats)
Usefulness score: (insert my rating based on usefulness)
GFAQs user score: (insert GFAQs user score, and number of ratings and tens)
My thoughts
(insert my thoughts on the character)

And I do this for each of the characters. Well, letís get started then.

---------
IIIA Lord
---------
The only character of the lord class in the game is Marth. He doesnít promote
but can reach level 30 instead of the level 20 cap. Itís his job to seize
thrones and gates, and later he will be able to open chests.

=====
Marth
=====
Starts as: Lord
Gender: Male
Appearance: Teenager look. Also has a tiara. Wears blue armor and a cape.
Bio: The main character.
Recruitment: Joins in either the prologue or Chapter 1. Depends on the mode.
Notable stats: High HP and luck, good speed
Stat score: 7/10
Usefulness score: 8/10
GFAQs user score: 7.29-12 ratings
My thoughts:
Well, youíre usually obligated to use him, being the main character and all.
He is the only character that can use the Rapier, an anti armor and cavalry
weapon. However, he canít level up as many times as the other characters, so
heís not very good for wi-fi and will be inferior to others statistically.
After obtaining the Fire Emblem, he loses a spot in his inventory, but gains
the ability to open chests. However, he can access the convoy anytime, which
helps.

------------------------------------------------------
IIIB Pegasus Knights, Falcon Knights, and Dracoknights
------------------------------------------------------
They are the flying units in this game. Pegasus knights and Falcon Knights are
fast and accurate with low defense while Dracoknights are slower but are
stronger and sturdier. They all have a weakness to bows, Arrowspates, and
Excalibur. Pegasus Knights promote to one or the other depending on how they
were promoted (see class swap under basics). Dracoknights get access to axes
and lances while Falcon Knights get access to swords and lances. Though it
comes down to personal preference, most prefer the Dracoknight due to the
strength boost.

=====
Caeda
=====
Starts as: Pegasus Knight
Gender: Female
Appearance: Teen with long blue hair. Has red and white armor.
Bio: Basic female lead. Has an obvious crush on Marth.
Recruitment: Joins at the start of Chapter 1.
Notable stats: Very high speed and luck, good skill
Stat score: 7/10
Usefulness score: 8/10
GFAQs user score: 8.59-16 ratings, 1 ten.
My thoughts
She has some pretty insane speed and luck, but her strength and HP are
horrible. However, she is the only unit that can use the Wing Spear, which is
a lance version of the Rapier, but better. I recommend making her a
dracoknight or paladin so sheíll increase her defense and strength. Sheíll
have a bit of trouble damaging the late game enemies. She also makes a good
mage.

=======
Minerva
=======
Starts as: Dracoknight
Gender: Female
Appearance: Angry looking with long red hair, red armor, and a headband.
Bio: Princess of Medon. Forced to fight Marth when her sister was captured.
Recruitment: After recruiting Maria, talk to her with Marth.
Notable stats: Good skill
Stat score: 6/10
Usefulness score: 7/10
GFAQs user score: 6.25-20 ratings, 1 ten
My thoughts
Well, I like her, but she isnít exactly amazing. Sheís one of the better
prepromoted characters in this game, but sheís still barely above subpar. The
high rank in axes helps her strength, though it is suggested you boost her
speed a bit by making her a sniper, but change her to Dracoknight or Paladin
after that. Itís always nice to have a decent promoted unit though.

=====
Palla
=====
Starts as: Pegasus Knight
Gender: Female
Appearance: Armor looks an unclean white color, with a hint of gold. She has
long green hair and a headband.
Bio: The eldest of the Medon Pegasus sisters.
Recruitment: Talk to with Marth in Chapter 14.
Notable stats: High HP, strength, and skill.
Stat score: 8/10
Usefulness score: 8/10
GFAQs user score: 8.08-19 ratings, 2 tens
My thoughts:
I donít know why she has such bad speed growth, but that problem is solved as
a myrmidon. But that basically means she needs to be class swapped for her
full potential. However, she can triangle attack by surrounding an enemy with
her sisters, and thatís always a help.

======
Catria
======
Starts as: Pegasus Knight
Gender: Female
Appearance: Armor similar to Pallaís. Has shoulder length blue hair and a
headband.
Bio: The middle sister of the Medon Pegasus sisters.
Recruitment: Talk to with Marth is Chapter 14
Notable stats: High speed, skill, and HP, good strength and luck
Stat score: 10/10
Usefulness score: 10/10
GFAQs user score: 9.64-32 ratings, 22 tens
My thoughts
One of the best units in the game. Sheíll do great as anything that isnít a
magic user, but even then sheíll turn out good. Plus, she is able triangle
attack. A perfect unit for the campaign or a wi-fi team.

===
Est
===
Starts as: Pegasus Knight
Gender: Female
Appearance: Armor is like Pallaís and Catriaís. Has a headband and very short
hair (compared to the other girls in this game at least). As a fun fact, she
is the only character with pink hair in battle.
Bio: Youngest of the Pegasus sisters of Medon. Steals the sword Mercurius for
Marth.
Recruitment: Talk to with Marth in Chapter 18.
Notable stats: High strength, skill, speed, and luck
Stat score: 10/10
Usefulness score: 3/10
GFAQs user score: 5.61-33 ratings, 4 tens
My thoughts
To new players: I wouldnít suggest using Est your first runthrough. She ends
up great, but you probably have a team already. For those of you who see me on
the boards, you probably know that Est is my favorite character in this game.
Most think that sheís not worth using, but if properly trained sheíll be on
par with Catria. The only truly notable advantage Catria has is a massive
advantage in HP, while Est has a good amount more strength and luck. Estís
huge amounts of luck allow her to be one of the only effective users of the
Devil Axe and Devil Sword (both will backfire if the units luck is very low.
The higher the luck, the less chance itíll backfire). Catria does however beat
her in most other stats, but barely. The two are interchangeable and work
together nicely on story mode or wi-fi. Her usefulness score isnít a one
because of the triangle attack (useful on harder difficulties) and the fact
that she can actually be good at maxed levels, unlike others.

---------------------------
IIIC Cavaliers and Paladins
---------------------------
Youíll get a lot of these guys throughout the game. They are a good class, and
cavaliers are the only unpromoted units that can use two weapon types (lances
and swords), though they donít gain a new weapon upon promotion. If you want a
character that is a little above average in every stat and has good mobility,
cavaliers are the way to go.

====
Frey
====
Starts as: Cavalier
Gender: Male
Appearance: Blue hair and a goatee. Has silver armor.
Bio: A knight serving Marth. Canonically dies luring away Jiolís knights.
Recruitment: Joins on Prologue II. Doesnít appear on hard, as he died.
Notable stats: High HP, skill, and speed, good luck and strength
Stat score: 9/10
Usefulness score: 8/10
GFAQs user score: 8.88-8 ratings
My thoughts
No, Iím not kidding about that user rating. Search ďRate the unit Day 2-FreyĒ
on the Shadow Dragon board and do the math. Along with Abel and Cain, heís one
of the best units in the game. He is the canonical decoy to lure away Jiolís
knights because of how Frey doesnít appear on hard modes, which skip the
prologue. Heís always a good unit to have around, though disappearance on hard
modes drops his usefulness score.

====
Abel
====
Starts as: Cavalier
Gender: Male
Appearance: Green hair parted to the side. Has green armor.
Bio: A knight serving Marth.
Recruitment: Joins in either the prologue or Chapter 1. Depends on the mode.
Notable stats: High HP, skill, and speed, good strength
Stat score: 9/10
Usefulness score: 10/10
GFAQs user score: 8.55-18 ratings, 4 tens
My thoughts
This guy is amazing. Heíll do great throughout the game, plus he gets bonuses
from fighting alongside Catria, Est, and Cain, who are other great characters.
Whatís not to like about this guy? He suffers from low luck growth, but thatís
it, plus he comes with a free javelin.

====
Cain
====
Starts as: Cavalier
Gender: Male
Appearance: Red hair that is somewhat messy. Has red armor.
Bio: A knight serving Marth. Gives Marth his fatherís last words.
Recruitment: Joins in either the prologue or Chapter 1. Depends on the mode.
Notable stats: High HP, skill, and speed, good strength and luck
Stat score: 8/10
Usefulness score: 8/10
GFAQs user score: 7.47-18 ratings
My thoughts
Unfortunately, he is unable to use javelins from the start due to his low
lance level. Thatís bad. However, he does great in all stats.

=====
Jagen
=====
Starts as: Paladin
Gender: Male
Appearance: Old man with small eyes and slicked back gray hair. He wears
purple armor with spikes.
Bio: A high ranking member of the Altean army.
Recruitment: Joins in either the prologue or Chapter 1. Depends on the mode.
Notable stats: All of his stats are pathetic
Stat score: -9001/10
Usefulness score: 5/10
GFAQs user score: 4.17-21 ratings
My thoughts
Heís practically a necessity on Hard 5 (at least for the first five chapters)
because he starts able to use silver lances, but heís still a level 1 paladin
with the stats of a level 5 cavalier, and his growths are just pitiful. After
you get Hardin, he is no use to you anymore.

=======
Matthis
=======
Starts as: Cavalier
Gender: Male
Appearance: Wimpy looking with vertical red-pink hair.
Bio: Lenaís brother and a noble of Medon.
Recruitment: Talk to with Lena in chapter 4.
Notable stats: Very high HP, good strength
Stat score: 5/10
Usefulness score: 4/10
GFAQs user score: 3.32-17 ratings
My thoughts
He is underrated, and becomesÖdecent. Heís still pretty bad though, but he has
a nice HP growth.

======
Hardin
======
Starts as: Cavalier
Gender: Male
Appearance: Brown hair with a mustache and turban.
Bio: Younger brother of the Aurelis King.
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 5 on the other side of the map.
Notable stats: Good HP, skill, and speed
Stat score: 7/10
Usefulness score: 9/10
GFAQs user score: 7.74-19 ratings
My thoughts
Heís very useful because he can use silver lances as soon as you get him,
which is just awesome. Heíll turn out great, though heíll have speed problems
for a while.

======
Roshea
======
Starts as: Cavalier
Gender: Male, but looks androgynous
Appearance: Big feminine looking eyes, short but feminine looking hair. Has
purple armor.
Bio: A knight of Aurelis
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 5 on the other side of the map.
Notable stats: Very high HP, good skill and okay strength
Stat score: 2/10
Usefulness score: 2/10
GFAQs user score: 3.60-10 ratings
My thoughts
Kinda like Matthis statistically, but a bit worse. His speed growth is just
sad. In my opinion, heís the worst character that starts as a cavalier.

======
Vyland
======
Starts as: Cavalier
Gender: Male
Appearance: His hair looks like Rick Astleyís. Has blue armor.
Bio: A knight of Aurelis
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 5 on the other side of the map.
Notable stats: Good HP
Stat score: 4/10
Usefulness score: 3/10
GFAQs user score: 3.25-12 ratings
My thoughts
His stats are balanced, but theyíre all mediocre. His usefulness score is
lower than his stat score because he gets doubled at first.

=====
Midia
=====
Starts as: Paladin
Gender: Female
Appearance: Shoulder length blue hair, dark pink armor
Bio: An Archanean knight commander. In love with the hero Astram.
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 12, stuck in a jail cell.
Notable stats: High HP, good skill and speed
Stat score: 3/10
Usefulness score: 2/10
GFAQs user score: 2.84-22 ratings
My thoughts
She inspired Isadora of Fire Emblem, and like Isadora, she sucks, especially
in strength. Sheíll have difficulty killing anything that isnít an unpromoted
magic user.

=====
Arran
=====
Starts as: Paladin
Gender: Male
Appearance: Purple armor, long, messy blonde hair. Looks snobby.
Bio: A former cavalry commander. Willing to support Marth.
Recruitment: Visit the village on the left in chapter 16
Notable stats: Good HP and strength
Stat score: 2/10
Usefulness score: 4/10
GFAQs user score: 1.88-17 ratings
My thoughts
You can either get him or Samson (a hero), and the only reason you should get
Arran is because he comes with two good weapons, which bumps his usefulness
score a bit.

------------------------
IIID Knight and Generals
------------------------
The job of a knight is to be a wall that can suck up hits and retaliate with a
lance to the face. Generals gain access to bows (why?) making them anti air
units as well. However, they have low speed.

=====
Draug
=====
Starts as: Knight
Gender: Male
Appearance: Looks like Vyland with green hair, bulkier armor, and tiny eyes.
Bio: A knight of Altea
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter one
Notable stats: Good HP. Decent magic if made into a Dark Mage.
Stat score: 6/10
Usefulness score: 7/10
GFAQs user score: 4.53-17 ratings
My thoughts
At first I thought he was nothing more than a wall, but out of the natural
knight and generals in this game, his stats are actually quite balanced. He
even has a higher speed and skill growth than defense growth! ButÖbeing
specialized in some stats is better than being okay in all stats. For the
first few levels he is a good tank, though on harder difficulties he will be
doubled until his speed growths kicks in. Also, he can be a good Dark Mage.

=====
Roger
=====
Starts as: Knight
Gender: Male
Appearance: Has oversized blue armor. Dark pink hair that parts in the middle,
though his hair is purple in battle.
Bio: A knight of Grust
Recruitment: Talk to with Caeda in chapter 8.
Notable stats: High HP and luck, good strength and defense
Stat score: 8/10
Usefulness score: 5/10
GFAQs user score: 7.35-13 ratings
My thoughts
Him and Athena probably have the funniest recruitment conversations. He is
unlike Draug, because he is a great tanking character, though he is really
slow. His high luck gives him the same advantage as Est, in being able to use
the Devil weapons if you donít mind class swapping him. As a frequent user of
the arena, I can say he will be nearly invincible in there. However, he is
difficult to train as his best classes (knight to general). Also,
SuperLuigiFan64 provided some good class swap options in the user opinions
section.

=====
Dolph
=====
Starts as: Knight
Gender: Male
Appearance: Bald with fancy green armor. His head is up.
Bio: A knight of Archaneia serving under Midia.
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 12, stuck in a jail cell.
Notable stats: High HP, good skill, defense, good speed if class swapped
Stat score: 8/10
Usefulness score: 4/10
GFAQs user score: 7.21-12 ratings, 1 ten
My thoughts
Of all of the characters stuck in the jail cell in chapter 12, heís the only
one worth using. Heís also the only good bald character in the game. He works
well as a general, horseman, hero, or berserker if youíre willing to raise his
speed as something that isnít a knight, like a mercenary. However, if he is
trained as a merc, beware of his low strength growth, so it wouldnít hurt to
give him a level or two as a fighter. Another problem is his horrid luck
growth, so beware of enemy criticals. Like Roger, he comes really underleveled.

========
Macellan
========
Starts as: Knight
Gender: Male
Appearance: Dolph with red armor and thicker eyebrows. Looking down.
Bio: A knight of Archaneia serving under Midia
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 12, stuck in a jail cell.
Notable stats: Good HP, good strength if class swapped
Stat score: 5/10
Usefulness score: 2/10
GFAQs user score: 4.50-11 ratings
My thoughts
He may look like Dolph, but donít be fooled, he is not. The only advantage he
has over Dolph is a noticeable edge in luck and a small edge in strength, but
itís really only 5% higher than his. His speed is bad even if class swapped.
Also he comes at level 1 in chapter 12, and unlike Est, he canít make up for
it with good growths, good bases, or a triangle attack.

======
Horace
======
Starts as: General
Gender: Male
Appearance: Silver armor and blue hair. Looks serious.
Bio: A knight forced to fight against his country to protect the citizens.
Recruitment: Clear chapter 12x without killing him.
Notable stats: High HP growth, but low base HP, good defense
Stat score: 5/10
Usefulness score: 7/10
GFAQs user score: 5.67-15 ratings
My thoughts
His only purpose is as a tank, but that may be trouble without using a Seraph
Robe to boost his HP a bit. His strength growth is almost nothing, so you may
want to train him as a berserker for a while.

======
Lorenz
======
Starts as: General
Gender: Male
Appearance: Elderly with combed back gray hair, a gray beard and mustache, and
an eye-patch. Wears a cloak with a high collar.
Bio: A general of Grust that does not support the war. Friends with Caedaís
father.
Recruitment: Talk to with Marth or Caeda in chapter 20
Notable stats: Good HP, skill, and strength growth, but very bad bases.
Stat score: 1/10
Usefulness score: 1/10
GFAQs user score: 2.46-20 ratings
My thoughts
The only good thing about him is his high weapon levels. His growths are fine
(a little better than Rogerís actually) but his bases make it seem like heís
unpromoted.

------------------------
IIIE Archers and Snipers
------------------------
The default bow users in the game, they have no close range options,
unfortunately. However, they have the best promotion gains, and therefore
suckish characters like Roshea can have their problems switched by being made
into a sniper (though archers are terrible). Plus they are the only characters
that can use the three ranged Longbow.

======
Gordin
======
Starts as: Archer
Gender: Male
Appearance: Young with green hair and light gray armor. Has a quiver.
Bio: A knight of Archaneia. Captured by enemy soldiers.
Recruitment: Talk to with Marth in prologue IV. Joins automatically in chapter
1 on hard modes.
Notable stats: Good HP, can utilize defense if used properly
Stat score: 4/10
Usefulness score: 5/10
GFAQs user score: 4.69-18 ratings
My thoughts
Like Wil of Fire Emblem, he gets surprising defense for an archer (by this
gameís standard at least). However, he is far inferior to Wil, and many other
characters too. He retains a small bit of defense growth as a magic user. His
speed and strength are painfully pathetic. He has a three way support with
Draug and Norne (no comment on that statement), and to acquire Norne two
characters must have died in the prologue, and he and Jagen are the best
choices, meaning he canít even benefit from that support unless you decide to
sacrifice some of the best units in the game. That bonus just isnít worth it.

=====
Norne
=====
Starts as: Archer
Gender: Female
Appearance: Pink hair in a ponytail, pink armor with a shoulder-guard
Bio: A militia soldier of Altea
Recruitment: Complete the prologue with at least two characters dead.
Notable stats: Good HP, speed, and skill
Stat score: 6/10
Usefulness score: 6/10
GFAQs user score: 5.09-11 ratings
My thoughts
Like Gordin, Norne is similar to another archer of Fire Emblem, Rebecca,
because they both like to gain speed. However, as Gordin is inferior to Wil,
Norne is inferior to Rebecca. But if you donít want to use class swap, sheís
the best default archer/sniper. The best characters to sacrifice for her are
Jagen and Gordin, but that means she wonít benefit from the support (which as
stated above, really isnít worth sacrificing Frey/Abel/Cain for a measly
support bonus).

======
Jeorge
======
Starts as: Sniper
Gender: Male
Appearance: Poofy blonde hair with a headband. Boney face and small eyes
Bio: An Archaneian sniper
Recruitment: Visit the village in chapter 9
Notable stats: Good skill
Stat score: 2/10
Usefulness score: 4/10
GFAQs user score: 3.31-21 ratings, 1 ten
My thoughts
Ew at his base strength. Ew at his strength growth. He starts able to use
Silver Bows, so that helps, but even Gordin puts them to better use. At least
he can weaken enemies for you, though donít let him get any kills, heíll suck
up all the exp.

=====
Tomas
=====
Starts as: Archer
Gender: Male
Appearance: Wimpy looking with ridiculously parted green hair. Blue armor.
Bio: A knight of Archaneia serving under Midia
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 12, stuck in a jail cell
Notable stats: Good HP and speed
Stat score: 6/10
Usefulness score: 1/10
GFAQs user score: 2.68-14 ratings
My thoughts
Imagine an underleveled wimpy looking Gordin with suckish bases (but better
growths), and supports with three pathetic characters and Dolph. Tomas in a
nutshell.

---------------------------
IIIF Mercenaries and Heroes
---------------------------
They are balanced sword using classes that are above average in all areas,
especially in speed and skill. Upon promotion, they gain axes. If a Male Set B
character is struggling with speed, training as a mercenary is the way to go.

=====
Ogma
=====
Starts as: Mercenary
Gender: Male
Appearance: Muscular with blonde hair and many battle scars
Bio: A mercenary commander of Talys. He is good friends with Caeda.
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 2
Notable stats: Very high HP, good strength, skill, speed, and luck
Stat score: 9/10
Usefulness score: 10/10
GFAQs user score: 8.05-22 ratings, 2 tens
My thoughts
He is one of those characters that does well class swapped as anything, that
isnít a magic user of course. He can be used at once and used throughout the
game. I personally like him as a hunter, but that lowers his durability a lot,
so I suggest alternating between fighter and mercenary until promotion, where
he can be almost anything. He also gets stat bonuses when fighting alongside
Barst, Bord, and Cord.

======
Caesar
======
Starts as: Mercenary
Gender: Male
Appearance: Serious looking with brown hair that becomes blonde in battle.
Hair parts in the middle. Has a red jacket and red headband.
Bio: A mercenary hired for protection of Port Warren. Partners with Radd.
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 8.
Notable stats: High HP and speed, good strength. Decent magic if made into a
Dark Mage.
Stat score: 8/10
Usefulness score: 6/10
GFAQs user score: 6.87-22 ratings
My thoughts
I like using him more than Ogma, and heís not much worse than him. Radd
support is always nice. However, he has a tendency to become strength screwed.
In my opinion, he is the best possible Dark Mage.

======
Astram
======
Starts as: Hero
Gender: Male
Appearance: Has spiky blonde hair and fancy green armor.
Bio: A knight of Archaneia, forced to fight. In love with the paladin Midia.
Recruitment: Talk to with Midia in chapter 13
Notable stats: Very high HP, good strength and luck
Stat score: 5/10
Usefulness score: 6/10
GFAQs user score: 4.21-15 ratings
My thoughts
Like Midia inspired Isadora, Astram inspired Harken. However, he will never
even be close to being as good as Harken. Heís good for a prepromote, but
thatís not saying much given his competition.

======
Samson
======
Starts as: Hero
Gender: Male
Appearance: Smooth looking blue hair. Has blue armor with spikes on one of
the sides.
Bio: Former arena gladiator. Willing to help Marth.
Recruitment: Visit the village on the right in chapter 16.
Notable stats: High HP, good luck
Stat score: 4/10
Usefulness score: 3/10
GFAQs user score: 2.96-11 ratings
My thoughts
You can either get Samson or Arran, and Samson is the better fighter. However,
he is still a bad character, though the high rank in axes is nice. His main
problem is that despite being decent for a prepromote, he canít be a support
unit like Wendell, and unlike Jeorge and Jagen (who are useful at first), he
will have better competition as soon as he joins.

--------------------------------
IIIG Myrmidons and Swordsmasters
--------------------------------
Just class swapping a unit to one of these guys nets a huge speed boost.
Expect lower strength and defense though. They are limited to swords, but that
shouldnít be a problem.

=======
Navarre
=======
Starts as: Myrmidon
Gender: Male
Appearance: Angry looking with very long brown hair that falls into his face.
Wears a red traditional Japanese swordfighter tunic.
Bio: A mercenary fighting for the Soothsires
Recruitment: Talk to with Caeda in chapter 3
Notable stats: Very high HP, good speed, skill, and luck.
Stat score: 7/10
Usefulness score: 7/10
GFAQs user score: 6.71-31 ratings, 1 ten
My thoughts
Heíll turn out pretty well, getting basic sword user stats. He also does well
as a cavalier. He frequently gets low strength, but he has high speed.
Unfortunately, he joins in the last chapter that you end up fighting a
plethora of axe users, meaning he wonít really shine as much as he could.

======
Athena
======
Starts as: Myrmidon
Gender: Female
Appearance: Kinda hard to describeÖuhÖbig diagonal eyes, a brown strapless
shirt with a very tight looking brown sleeveless shirt underneath. Hair is
short in front, but has many long braids in the back.
Bio: A swordswoman with an accent that exist for comedy. She refers to herself
as ďwe,Ē but for some reason she still acknowledges the fact that she is ďvun
vomanĒ.
Recruitment: Visit the village in chapter 6x
Notable stats: High HP, good skill and speed
Stat score: 7/10
Usefulness score: 8/10
GFAQs user score: 7.50-17 ratings
My thoughts
Her and Roger probably have the only funny recruitment conversations in the
game. Her growths are about average, but her insane bases make up for that,
even when compared to Navarre at level 20/20. She can also become a Pegasus
knight right away, which is nice.

====
Radd
====
Starts as: Myrmidon
Gender: Male
Appearance: Young with very red hair and a pointy looking chin. Has a green
scarf and a shirt that is blue on one side, orange on the other.
Bio: A mercenary hired for protection of Port Warren. Partners with Caesar.
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 8
Notable stats: High HP and speed, good strength and luck.
Stat score: 8/10
Usefulness score: 3/10
GFAQs user score: 6.60-20 ratings, 4 tens
My thoughts
He will turn out the best of the default myrmidons. Heís about the same as
Caesar statistically, but end up with a bit more luck (but a low luck base).
He has good growths, and has a lot of usefulness as a cavalier. However, he is
insanely hard to train, and his bases are bad (though his growths eventually
make up for it).

--------------------------
IIIH Fighters and Warriors
--------------------------
The basic axe units in the game, they and mages are your knight killers in
story mode. Upon promotion, they learn to use bows, which makes them perfect
for taking on dracoknights (axes and bows). However, they have a terrible
speed cap so they are bad for wi-fi.

=====
Barst
=====
Starts as: Fighter
Gender: Male
Appearance: Dark blue hair that goes to the side with a brownish headband,
wears an even darker blue jacket.
Bio: A mercenary working under Ogma
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 2
Notable stats: High HP, good strength, skill, and luck, good speed if class
swapped
Stat score: 9/10
Usefulness score: 10/10
GFAQs user score: 8.78-16 ratings, 2 tens
My thoughts
Basically an axe using version of Ogma with practically identical growths.
Also, he gets stat bonuses when fighting alongside Ogma, Bord, and Cord.

====
Bord
====
Starts as: Fighter
Gender: Male
Appearance: Flat face and brown hair that goes back with a headband. Wears a
sleeveless tan jacket that has some sort of fur on it. Looking down.
Bio: A mercenary working under Ogma
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 2
Notable stats: Very high HP, good strength and skill.
Stat score: 4/10
Usefulness score: 5/10
GFAQs user score: 4.09-17 ratings, 1 ten
My thoughts
He is tied for the worst speed growth in the game, because itís already at its
lowest. His other stats are fine, sure, but that speedÖand unlike Roshea, he
canít become an archer or myrmidon to help it, and as a mercenary, it still
only has a 20% chance of increasing. He can tank I suppose, and his strength
is great.

====
Cord
====
Starts as: Fighter
Gender: Male
Appearance: Brown hair that goes forward and somehow up. Has a white headband.
Obviously is trying to show off his chest muscles. The shoulders of his shirt
are ripped off, but the sleeves are still there somehow. As you can tell, he
has a very original fashion sense.
Bio: A mercenary working under Ogma.
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 2
Notable stats: High HP, good strength, speed, and luck. Has a surprisingly
decent magic stat if made into a Dark Mage.
Stat score: 9/10
Usefulness score: 10/10
GFAQs user score: 7.23-13 ratings
My thoughts
He has surprising magic growth as a Dark Mage, and heís a lot better then
people give him credit for, heís on par with Barst and Ogma. He doesnít even
need to be made into a hunter or mercenary for a good speed stat.

====
Ymir
====
Starts as: Warrior
Gender: Male
Appearance: Has messy black hair. Wears some sort of animal pelt. Has dark
face paint.
Bio: A warrior that is trying to protect villagers. Misunderstood because of
his giant size.
Recruitment: Talk to with Marth in chapter 20x, he joins after the chapter.
Notable stats: Very high HP, good strength
Stat score: 2/10
Usefulness score: 1/10
GFAQs user score: 2.58-16 ratings
My thoughts
Like Lorenz, heíd probably be okay without those awful base stats.

-------------------------
IIII Hunters and Horsemen
-------------------------
Hunters are like archers, but with more strength and less defense. Upon
promotion, they gain a horse and access to swords. However, they lack snipersí
high promotion gains and access to longbows.

======
Castor
======
Starts as: Hunter
Gender: Male
Appearance: Wimpy looking with shiny parted blue hair. Gray armor.
Bio: A hunter who is looking for gold for his ill mother.
Recruitment: Talk to with Caeda in chapter 2
Notable stats: All are decent except defense, luck, and resistance, and they
become good if he is class swapped.
Stat score: 7/10
Usefulness score: 7/10
GFAQs user score: 6.10-20 ratings, 2 tens
My thoughts
Heís underrated. He will make a very useful horseman or hero, though he will
still be inferior to some others. Beware of his low HP, I used him as a
horseman on my first wi-fi team, and he was usually killed in one hit by magic
users. If youíre going to make him a mercenary/hero, beware of a strength
drop.

====
Wolf
====
Starts as: Horseman
Gender: Male
Appearance: Purple hair with one side covering half of his face, the other
side is practically horizontal. Has orange armor.
Bio: A knight of Aurelis. Post game, commands of his own group of Aurelis
soldiers called ďThe Wolfguard.Ē
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 5 on the other side of the map.
Notable stats: Extremely high HP and strength, high skill, and speed, good
defense and luck.
Stat score: 9/10
Usefulness score: 10/10
GFAQs user score: 8.64-23 ratings, 5 tens
My thoughts
Him and Sedgar have the best growths in the game. Sure, their bases are
terrible, but their growths should definitely make up for it. I usually like
Wolf as a general or berserker to utilize the HP growth, though he also is
great as a hero, and pretty much anything else. As a sorcerer, heíll have a
chance of leveling up in all stats, but he will have low magic. He doesnít get
a perfect stat score because his growths may not always make up for his bases.

======
Sedgar
======
Starts as: Horseman
Gender: Male
Appearance: Tough looking version of Wolf with his hair not in his face. Has
light blue armor.
Bio: A knight of Aurelis
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 5, on the other side of the map.
Notable stats: Extremely high HP, high strength, speed, defense, and skill
Stat score: 9.9/10
Usefulness score: Over 9000/10
GFAQs user score: 8.22-33 ratings, 16 tens
My thoughts
Donít be fooled by that user rating average, look at the number of tens. Some
people gave him a 1/10 simply because they though he was overrated. Horrid
bases, yes. Awesome growths, hell yeah. He specializes in different stats than
Wolf, and usually ends up better because of his noticeably higher defense.
Also, since he starts at a lower level, he gets to utilize those growths even
more. He even makes Hard 5 a breeze when made into a general. However, he is
not recommended for wi-fi teams, he will probably turn out worse than Barst,
Frey, Cord, and others because his bases still drag him down a lot. However,
with a LOT of RNG abuse, he will make a good sorcerer.

---------------------------
IIIJ Pirates and Berserkers
---------------------------
They start out about the same as fighter (axe wielding powerhouses), but upon
promotion the gain better caps (especially speed) and learn to walk over water
and get an increased chance of a critical instead of bows.

======
Darros
======
Starts as: Pirate
Gender: Male
Appearance: Bald and cross-eyed with a typical white pirate bandanna. Wears a
blue shirt with the sleeves ripped off.
Bio: A pirate thatís tired of piracy
Recruitment: Talk to with Marth in chapter 2
Notable stats: High HP, good strength and luck
Stat score: 5/10
Usefulness score: 6/10
GFAQs user score: 4.41-16 ratings
My thoughts
I used him in my first playthrough, because he was the only non cavalier who
was able to defeat myrmidons in the arena (due to his high base defense and
strength). But later, he was getting doubled a lot more than I expected. Good
as a tank unit for a while, after that ditch him.

-----------------------------
IIIK Dark Mages and Sorcerors
-----------------------------
Basically more durable mages. Since you only get one (Etzel) and heís on
an ďxĒ chapter, itís recommended you use Draug, Cord or Caesar as your
Sorcerer (they have viable magic growth). They can heal after promotion.

=====
Etzel
=====
Starts as: Sorcerer
Gender: Male, though his official art shows him with a womanly body.
Appearance: Red hair thatís a little less than shoulder-length, with a very
thin braid coming down from the side. Has a black cloak. Wears a monacle.
Bio: A wandering sorcerer that fights for his deceased wife.
Recruitment: Donít kill him in chapter 17x. Joins after the chapter.
Notable stats: Good magic, good HP growth but very bad base HP
Stat score: 6/10
Usefulness score: 6/10
GFAQs user score: 6.21-11 ratings, 1 ten
My thoughts
Iím going to say heís pretty good for a prepromote magic user. But then again,
his only competition is Boah, Wendell, and Gotoh. He can be a good sniping
unit because of the lack of enemy resistance. He should get the job done,
since he can both cast and heal.

--------------------
IIIL Mages and Sages
--------------------
Basic magic users. They have less durability than Dark Mages and Sorcerers,
but better a better magic stat. They can heal after promotion.

======
Merric
======
Starts as: Mage
Gender: Male
Appearance: Has messy light green hair and a blue cloak
Bio: One of Wendellís students. Friends with Marth.
Recruitment: Visit the southernmost village in chapter 4.
Notable stats: Good HP, skill, speed, and luck
Stat score: 10/10
Usefulness score: 10/10
GFAQs user score: 9.42-31 ratings, 19 tens
My thoughts
Probably the best magic user in the game. Unlike Linde, he actually gets
enough HP and defense to take abut three hits. His magic growth is
unimpressive, though he can use the powerful Excalibur spell from the start.

=======
Wendell
=======
Starts as: Sage
Gender: Male
Appearance: Old and kind looking, with white hair (bald in battle). Wears a
blue hat and white and blue robes.
Bio: Pacifist magic teacher of Khadein.
Recruitment: Talk to with Marth or Merric in chapter 4.
Notable stats: Good HP, luck, and resistance.
Stat score: 2/10
Usefulness score: 7/10
GFAQs user score: 4.66-26 ratings
My thoughts
I was panicked when I realized that I put my level 3 Merric into Wendellís
attack range. But he doubled Merric, and Merric survived. A sage with thunder
doubles a level 3 mage and is unable to kill him? Yuck. He can heal for a
while though, and his low magic lets him weaken enemies for others to finish
off. Heíll be a support unit for a while (having a unit that can attack and
heal is nice), but those statsÖtruly pathetic.

=====
Linde
=====
Starts as: Mage
Gender: Female
Appearance: Wears a pinkish strapless dress. Has long brown hair in a
ponytail, gloves that go way up her arms and wears some sort of jeweled
headband.
Bio: Daughter of Pontifex Miloah, who was murdered by Gharnef.
Recruitment: Visit the village in chapter 11
Notable stats: Good magic, luck, skill and speed.
Stat score: 9/10
Usefulness score: 4/10
GFAQs user score: 7.21-22 ratings, 4 tens
My thoughts
Though Merric has better durability, Linde probably wonít be getting magic
screwed. Plus she has the ability to use powerful spell Aura as soon as she
joins. However, I wonít give her the same score as Merric because she lacks
his HP and needs to be class swapped for any chance of her defense increasing.
However, she comes at level 1, so that wrecks her usefulness.

=====
Gotoh
=====
Starts as: Sage
Gender: Male
Appearance: Closed eyes and a long gray beard. Wears a red hat with something
similar to a veil coming down from it (not covering his face).
Bio: A legendary archsage. Teacher to Miloah and Gharnef
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 25 (if you didnít go to chapter 24x
Notable stats: Good speed, luck, and defense
Stat score: 5/10
Usefulness score: 10/10
GFAQs user score: 6.44-23 ratings, 1 ten
My thoughts
Unlike the similar Athos of Fire Emblem, heís just bad. Good growths, bad
bases for his level. You may wonder why he has such a high usefulness score.
The reasons are that he comes in the last chapter without wasting a character
slot, he comes with fortify, so he is a free healer, he is also vital in
defeating the last chapter in one turn, because he can use the warp staff, and
most importantly, he comes with the long ranged Swarm tome, a necessity for a
good wi-fi team.

----------------------------------
IIIM Curates, Clerics, and Bishops
----------------------------------
The default healers, who start unable to attack. Though they can attack with
tomes after promotion, itís probably best for them to stay in back and heal
(lower magic than Mages and Dark Mages).

====
Wrys
====
Starts as: Curate
Gender: Male
Appearance: Bald with blue robes and a green cape
Bio: A priest of Talys
Recruitment: Visit the western village in chapter 1
Notable stats: Nothing is notably good.
Stat score: 1/10
Usefulness score: 4/10
GFAQs user score: 4.08-12 ratings
My thoughts
A healer is invaluable early game. He is useful for one chapter, then you get
Lena. Even if Lena didnít exist, he has some of the worst growths in the game,
the best being a 45% resistance growth. Thatís bad.

====
Lena
====
Starts as: Cleric
Gender: Female
Appearance: Messy shoulder-length reddish pink hair and big brown eyes. Wears
robes that are light blue and white. Clutching her necklace.
Bio: A Medon noble captured by the Soothsires and rescued by Julian. She is
Matthisís younger sister.
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 3, a little bit above your main
party.
Notable stats: Good luck and resistance
Stat score: 6/10
Usefulness score: 8/10
GFAQs user score: 6.59-33 ratings, 5 tens
My thoughts:
Best default curate/cleric/bishop in the game (not counting Elice for obvious
reasons). But itís not that sheís good, the others are just worse than her.
Really, all she should do is heal. She is one of the least durable units in
the game.

=====
Maria
=====
Starts as: Cleric
Gender: Female
Appearance: Young with white fancy looking clothes and shoulder length red
hair. Has a gold hairband.
Bio: Younger princess of Medon and younger sister to Minerva and Michalis.
Captured to force Minerva to fight.
Recruitment: Talk to with Marth in chapter 10
Notable stats: High luck, good resistance
Stat score: 4/10
Usefulness score: 3/10
GFAQs user score: 3.69-24 ratings, 2 tens
My thoughts:
Sheís like Lena in some ways. The better luck doesnít change that sheís worse
where it counts; her speed makes her a horrible offensive mage. While Lena can
double (sometimes) paladins and kill them, the only enemies Maria can double
are generals, but she wonít even be able to kill them due to her low magic.
Like Lena, sheís only good as a healer, but she canít even heal much damage.

====
Boah
====
Starts as: Bishop
Gender: Male
Appearance: Old with white hair (bald in battle) and a white mustache. Wears a
small green hat. Wears green with a purplish bishopís jacket
Bio: A bishop of Archaneia. Works with Midia.
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 12, stuck in a jail cell
Notable stats: Truthfully, thereís nothing good about his stats.
Stat score: 1/10
Usefulness score: 1/10
GFAQs user score: 1.68-14 ratings
My thoughts
Frail and weak. Avoid using him on a serious playthrough, unless you feel you
need another healer (and he even fails at that). Donít expect him to heal much
damage.

=====
Elice
=====
Starts as: Cleric
Gender: Female
Appearance: Mature looking with long blue hair. Wears a strapless white robe
with a light blue shirt underneath.
Bio: Marthís older sister. Captured by Gharnef.
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 24
Notable stats: High luck, good HP, skill, and speed
Stat score: 7/10
Usefulness score: 5/10
GFAQs user score: 5.68-19 ratings, 2 tens
My thoughts
Sheíll turn out good statistically, but it may be hard to get her there. She
has a pretty big lead over Lena in HP. If you raise her tome rank, sheíll make
a fine wi-fi unit (this isnít recommended). However, she can use the Aum staff
which resurrects a dead unit, which is pretty cool.

------------
IIIN Thieves
------------
In the story mode, their job is to pick locks, lower bridges, and nab
treasure. However, they donít promote, but reach level 30. This means theyíre
missing ten levels and class-up gains. They can only wield swords.

======
Julian
======
Starts as: Thief
Gender: Male
Appearance: Has oddly styled red hair (one side is combed to the side and the
rest is combed forward into his face). Wears a dirty yellow sleeveless shirt.
Bio: A former member of the Soothsires, who betrayed them to rescue his love,
Lena from them.
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 3, a little above your main party
Notable stats: High HP and luck, good strength, skill, and speed.
Stat score: 8/10
Usefulness score: 10/10
GFAQs user score: 8.11-18 ratings, 4 tens
My thoughts
If only he could promoteÖeven so, he will probably even rival great units that
can promote. Iíll compare him to Marth since they have the same level cap.
Heíll probably beat Marth in everything (except maybe defense), but no rapier
means heíll have trouble against knights, and he canít access the convoy. His
growths are still amazing though, and his good luck lets him use the Devil
Sword effectively which will do wonders for his strength.

=======
Rickard
=======
Starts as: Thief
Gender: Male, but looks very much like a girl in the TCG art
Appearance: Big eyes and blue hair parted at the side. Part of his hair is
sticking up.
Bio: A reckless thief. Idolizes Julian.
Recruitment: Talk to with Julian or Marth in chapter 6
Notable stats: Good HP, strength, and speed
Stat score: 5/10
Usefulness score: 6/10
GFAQs user score: 3.19-21 ratings
My thoughts
Heís inferior to Julian, but he is a decent fighter and has Julian support,
though there are few levels where you need to bring both of them for treasure
acquisition.

------------------
IIIO Ballisticians
------------------
The spaces they canít attack from is three. Though more, no less. Three shall
be the number thou shall not shoot from, and the number of the shooting shall
exceed three. Sorry, couldnít resist. Theyíre here to snipe at enemies from a
distance with their unique weapons. With a forged pachederm, they dominate
enemy armies. They donít really need any stat except strength and skill, since
they shouldnít be attacked and canít double.

====
Jake
====
Starts as: Ballistician
Gender: Male
Appearance: Has purple spiky hair and a headband. Looks angry. Wears a blue-
ish shirt with a popped collar.
Bio: A ballistician that isnít motivated to fight for his country. His lover
is Anna. Both Jake and Anna are recurring characters throughout the Fire
Emblem series.
Recruitment: After visiting Annaís house in chapter 11, talk to him with
Caeda. Be careful, as he can usually kill her in one shot.
Notable stats: Good skill and luck
Stat score: 7/10
Usefulness score: 8/10
GFAQs user score: 5.74-17 ratings, 1 ten
My thoughts
Heíll have trouble with accuracy for a while, but once his skill growths kick
in or you forge him a weapon (preferably the Pachederm), heíll be great.

====
Beck
====
Starts as: Ballistician
Gender: Male
Appearance: Wimpy looking with messy brown hair and brown armor
Bio: A ballistician of Grust that had to go into hiding
Recruitment: Visit the village in chapter 13
Notable stats: Good HP
Stat score: 7/10
Usefulness score: 8/10
GFAQs user score: 7.67-23 ratings, 1 ten
My thoughts
Most consider him inferior to Jake due to the fact that he comes with a
thunderbolt which destroys enemies in chapter 13, but I think heís worse (but
not enough for a lower score). Jake has an advantage in skill and luck, which
are more important than Beckís advantage in HP and speed, which are almost
useless for ballisticians.

--------------
IIIP Manaketes
--------------
Without some form of stone, they are pathetic. However, if given a stone, they
will transform into a dragon. Tiki and Nagi are Divine dragons, and able to
use the divinestones, giving them dragon-killing dragon breath. But once the
stone is gone, theyíre nothing but ballistician bait.

=====
Bantu
=====
Starts as: Manakete
Gender: Male
Appearance: Very old looking (but with no facial hair). Wears a very red robe
with the hood up.
Bio: A fire dragon. He is Tikiís guardian
Recruitment: Visit the village in chapter 7 with Marth
Notable stats: Nothing really. But with his base defense he can tank.
Stat score: 1/10
Usefulness score: 1/10
GFAQs user score: 2.61-19 ratings
My thoughts
His growths are a lot like Boahís. Unlike Boah, he canít heal, though he does
have a purpose I suppose. Because he starts slow with high attack and defense
(at first, he has basically no growths), he can be put in an enemyís range,
survive if he has enough HP (heíll probably be doubled), and he should weaken
the foe enough for an underleveled character to finish them and gain
experience. Thatís all he can do pretty much. If you use him, you waste the
firestone which you should give to Tiki/Nagi.

====
Tiki
====
Starts as: Manakete
Gender: Female
Appearance: Child looking (though really much older) with pointed ears and
green hair in a ponytail. Wears a sinister looking crown-like accessory with a
red jewel on it. Has pink clothing.
Bio: One of the few remaining divine dragons. She was hypnotized by Gharnef to
guard the Fane of Raman.
Recruitment: Talk to with Bantu in chapter 19
Notable stats: High HP, skill, speed, and luck, good strength
Stat score: 10/10
Usefulness score: 10/10
GFAQs user score: 8.39-22 ratings, 9 tens
My thoughts
Remember kiddies, dragon attacks are super effective against dragon types. Her
Divine dragonstone allows her to one shot pretty much any dragon that
approaches her, and she can usually defeat the final boss in 2-3 hits. She
starts at a low level, but with those stats, it shouldnít matter.

====
Nagi
====
Starts as: Manakete
Gender: Female
Appearance: She looks like Tiki in her twenties. Has extremely long messy hair
and a pink sleeveless dress
Bio: An amnesiac woman from another dimension. She seems to know she needs to
help Marth.
Recruitment: Joins at the start of chapter 25 (if you went to 24x)
Notable stats: Same as Tiki
Stat score: 9/10
Usefulness score: 9/10
GFAQs user score: 7.91-11 ratings
My thoughts
She has the same growths as Tiki, but comes at level 15 on the last chapter.
Tiki will beat Nagi a bit if they are the same level, so Iím scoring Tiki
higher. She should still turn out amazing, but youíll have a hell of a time
trying to give her 15 levels in one chapter.

-------------------------
IIIQ Freelancer/Chameleon
-------------------------
He has the power to transform into an adjacent ally for five turns. Having two
general Sedgars ripping through a level is pretty amusing. However, he needs
to be healed, as though the HP cap is temporarily copied, he keeps the HP he
had before transformation. He is defenseless while untransformed, but he can
walk on water.

====
Xane
====
Starts as: Freelancer
Gender: Male
Appearance: Has shoulder length pinkish-red hair with a feather in it. Wears a
pink shirt. Strangely, he looks like Priscilla from Fire Emblem.
Bio: A wanderer that can shape-shift into others. Has mysterious ties with
Gotoh and Tiki.
Recruitment: Talk to with Marth in chapter 16
Notable stats: Decent HP growth, but his untransformed stats are irrelevant.
Stat score: Varies
Usefulness score: 9/10
GFAQs user score: 7.50-23 ratings, 5 tens
My thoughts
Iíve heard that in the original game he could use swords. Well, now he canít,
heís basically defenseless untransformed. But his usefulness comes from the
fact that you can have two overpowered characters blasting through a level.
Imitate Julian and you can have another thief that can fight in addition to
getting treasure. Copy Jake or Beck and have another super ranged attacker.
Copy Lena to get another healer, and so on. Since he also copies stats, he can
be useful for a wi-fi team if you have an extremely blessed unit, he is great
that way. Unfortunately, the only thing he can do untransformed is dodge, die,
and walk on water.

IV User opinions
================
This is the section where users gave their opinions on some characters.

-cormag_77 on Catria:
She has some of the best growths in the game she is a great Wi-Fi unit and can
solo endgame without any help. She almost always caps skl and spd probably 50%
of the time and caps luck about 20% of the time that I have seen. All in all
she is a great unit and should be used on every Wi-Fi team. Forgot one thing
she does great as anything maybe not mage/sage or cleric/bishop without any
RNG abuse but 50% of the time Wi-Fi teams are RNG abused.

-LunaOrangeCrush5 on Est:
Good growths, but level 3 at chapter 18 is pretty terrible. Sure you could
favor her, but in the time it takes to get her to 20/1 you could have favored
someone else up to 20/10 or higher. Donít bother even trying to use her.

-quanchino on Catria (wi-fi)
Excellent for the Levin swordsmaster build, if you train her as a mage she has
both decent strength and magic growth.

-SuperLuigiFan64 on Roger:
Class routes:

Option 1:
Hunter/Fighter-Hero/Warrior
This will provide him with a great mixture of speed and strength and after
promotion his speed will start to pick up if you reclass him to hero.

Option 2:
Knight-General
This seems alright since heíll turn into a good enough tank, but 30% def
growth may not be reliable. His speed will be crap, but heíll be able to bulk
out attacks in addition with his high luck.

Option 3:
Hunter/Fighter/Knight-General/Hero
A lot of reclassing I know, but itíll give him a mix of offensive gains from a
fighter, the speed heíll need using hunter, and all the defense heíll need
from knight. After promotion, heíll be able to destroy everyone regardless if
you chose either class. As general, heíll be able to dish out tons of hate
without taking any damage. If he starts to lag in speed, he can class swap to
horseman to get better speed. Defense gains can be tough when he only has 30%
at best, but if you manage to gain enough defense from knight, youíre gonna
have one godly hero thatís better than Wolf/Sedgar.

Overall:
Roger has impressive class routes. He has the highest non Wolf/Sedgar str
growth and one of the highest luck gains in the game, only beaten by
Tiki/Nagi. Following these class routes will lead into a god unit thatís
comparable to Wolf/Sedgar. Most people bash him for his mid-game joining time
and relatively low level, but can turn out great if you follow class route
option 3.

Score: 10/10

-TheCilver on Radd:
Radd is the third and last to join of the three natural swordsmasters. Among
them, he has the highest strength and defense growth rates among them, but in
return is the hardest to train. Right off the bat, he needs to be babied to be
raised to a level where he is self reliant. If you train him, though, he will
have a nice endgame with his strength and defense. He is hard to train,
though, so that drags him down. If you want, train him as a myrmidon then as a
cavalier for a nice spread of stats.

-YeGreatOffender on Barst:
10 STR at level 3.

-awesome_possum77 on Wolf:
A great horseman that has monster stat growths. Can easily class swap and
still be a beast unit. Good class choices are horseman, hero, general, and
berserker. Him and Sedgar should be on every team, no matter what.

-Yoshi6852 on Merric:
Honestly one of the best mages ever! He starts out really good (better than
the sage you get soon after) and he has good growths.

-Omb_Bomb on Frey:
The best of the three starting cavaliers IMO. You get him early in the game
(Prologue II). Frey will almost always max speed and skill, sometimes max
luck, and with a little RNG abuse he can max strength, meaning that Frey makes
an excellent Sniper or Swordsmaster. He can also make a decent paladin or
dracoknight.
Frey only has three supports (as compared to Cain and Abelís four), and two of
them are not very good (Marth and Palla). A good thing though, is that Palla
and Catria get supports from him. Frey can only get B supports with Catria and
Palla, unless you somehow manage to get them to enter 35 chapters together.

-indg_nt_judgmnt on Gordin:
Most people call him suck and I agree, but he CAN be useful. He can be used to
help weaken enemies from afar, that way WEAK units like Caeda can gain some
quick experience, without having to use up that Wing Spear.

-HolyPhantom on Abel:
A really good unit overall and should be on almost every team. A good reclass
into sniper or swordsmaster. Will always cap skill and speed unless he gets
RNG screwed. He is a god if he gets a lot of strength and defense.

-bored_pwnage on Barst:
Great character, 10/10, amazing stats as a fighter, then turned into a hero,
one of my favorite characters, and is a beast in the arena, gained me
thousands of pieces oí gold. The end.

V Statistics
============
This is the section where I show character stats. Yep.

--------------------
VA Character Growths
--------------------
The percentages for each character increasing in each stat upon leveling up.
If the character has more than a 100% chance of increasing that stat, the stat
may increase by more than one (like 160% means the character is guaranteed to
get at least +1 and has a 60% chance of getting +2). This is in their default
class, not class swapped, except for certain characters whose growths change
upon promotion, and Pegasus characters, where I list the Falcon Knight and
Dracoknight (different growth rates).

NOTE: Pegasus knights have the same growths as Falcon Knights, so instead of
listing (Peg/Falcon), I only listed (Peg) for spacing reasons.

VB Stat Averages
----------------
Here are the average stats of each character at their maxed level (assuming
the unpromoted characters were promoted at level 20). Remember, donít expect
this to always come true as stat-ups are mostly random. An asterisk (this
thing *) means that the average stat is capped.

NOTE: The Pegasus characters have their dracoknight averages listed.

OTHER NOTE: You may be wondering why I didnít round the stats. An example is
that 59.6 would still show up in the game as 59.
