Question from Snoopy44291
Shuckle moveset help!...(?)
Im EV training a Shuckle in Defense and Sp. Defense, for the Battle Frontier, and I want to know if this is a good moveset for it:Sandstorm, Toxic, Double Team, Swagger. Item: Lum Berry.
I will acept any ideas for changes to the moveset and/or item.
Thanks in advance!!!
My Shuckle has a Quirky nature, that means its neutral, I dont mind, really...I will stop the Defense EV training and start with the HP EV training.
I noticed a little problem in the movesets, Shuckle has nothing to damage a Steel type, just Bug Bite but it is "not very effective"... any ideas to fix that?
In order, I know already what moves a Shuckle can learn, I get all the info from serebii.net and... I will test your movesets, its the Battle Frontier after all, I cant go unprepared.
I wouldnt use Sludge Bomb because the lack of Sp. Attack and Attack. But is still good suggestion. As the others, I will test it.
Decided attacks: Toxic, Safeguard and Rest
-Encore: Because I could encore something super effective.
-Sludge Bomb: Lack of power (attack/ Sp. Attack).
-Double Team: It really never works when you want.
-Sandtomb: Lack of power (attack/ Sp. Attack).
-Sandstorm: I will train a Tyranitar!!... But it will take time...and it will be annoying until it evolves.
-Swagger: I can give more power to the enemy Pokemon to defeat me and the confusion doesnt works when you need it.
-Bug Bite: Lack of power (attack/ Sp. Attack). I knoe that it can eat the foes berry, but if it is not holding a berry it will be useless.
Just one more!! Please!!!
If you ever read this again FE_Expert, you can try using Trick Room, that way Shuckle will be faster and with Power Trick it will be almost perfect...you know, if it is not a 1-hit KO it may be a little dangerous.
I will complete it with Protect... why I never saw that...? Never mind...
Thank you everyone!!! Battle Frontier, here we go!!!
First, what nature is your shuckle? Make sure it's one that benefits your goal, same with your IVs.
I personally would not use the move swagger. This is because I don't like giving the enemy more power to KO me. However, it is a decent move if you don't mind chancing the opponent killing you easier.
Possible Substitutions for Swagger: Safeguard (could make room for leftovers item), Rest (nasty for getting HP recovery), Bug bite (give your shuckle something to do when maxed on evade, etc...can also eat enemy berries), or other similar moves. Just an opinion, mind.
Of these, I think Rest or Safeguard would be best...recovering HP with a Shuckle would be almost crucial.

No Lum Berry for Shuckle. Think Leftovers.
Max out its HP EVs before touching its defenses. Its defenses are already good, but its HP needs all the help it can get.
Now, as far as moveset goes, that one's not TOO bad, but there are better ones.
And the moveset:
Toxic: OK. Leave Toxic on the moveset. Toxic GOOOD.
Sandstorm: Not needed, really. If you really want a Sandstorm going, add Hippowdon or Tyranitar to your team.
Double Team: NO. Never works when you need it to, I speak from experience.
Swagger: Confusion's always good, but the attack boost is kinda off-putting, especially when Shuckle has such bad HP to begin with.
I'd say keep Toxic, and for its other three moves: Stealth Rock, Rest, and Encore.
Here's a list of ALL the moves Shuckle can learn. It might be a bit of an issue with some if you don't have other Pokemon games, but eh...
You might be able to get away with Sandtomb...as it also traps the enemy...but considering Shuckle's bad attack power anyway... I dunno
Toxic, Rest, Double Team, and Sludge Bomb.
Not sure how to help you with beating steel types, at least, not with the way your raising your Shuckle. Another possible strategy with Shuckle would be to teach it Power Trick, which swaps it's defense and attack stats, and then three offensive moves. The biggest problem with this strategy is that it's defense will go WAY down, and because it's slow, it's very hard to take advantage of it's new found power. The only way I see to use a Shuckle with this strategy would be in a double battle with a pokemon that uses follow me, but that's probably not what you're looking for in the battle frontier. Without changing the strategy, I would go with protect, just to last longer and annoy your opponents. Hope this helps!
P.S. I'm also training a Shuckle, and so far, I'm sticking with the offensive double battle strategy. Either way, good choice, just make sure to balance it.
