Question from mariobros210

What's the difference between HeartGold and SoulSilver?

Im trying to decide which one to buy since im broke. Also let me know which one is better.

MetalKingBoo answered:

The main difference will be some of the Pokemon available for each version (including some legendaries)

It really depends on what Pokemon you like. But both games offer basically the same thing.

The story line also differs slightly. In HeartGold you get a Rainbow Wing for doing something. SoulSilver players recieve a different wing. Later on, you get a Clear Bell (I think) in HeartGold and something else in SoulSilver. You will then have to go and fight Ho-Oh in HeartGold and Lugia in SoulSilver before you will be able to go to the Elite Four. Lugia is at the bottom of Whirlpool Islands and Ho-Oh is at the top of Bell Tower.

Everything else in regards to the story is the same!

The main differences are the Version Exclusives:
...and when you can fight Lugia/Ho-oh.

Also, I recommend picking either Totodile or Cyndaquil for HeartGold or Totodile or Chikorita for SoulSilver (based on the locations and known Moves of Ho-oh and Lugia). Know your Johto starters:
--Cyndaquil has an easy start and evolves into a Speed Demon (high Speed, High Sp.Atk, low defenses).
--Totodile has a medium-difficulty start and evolves into a Physical Brute (low Speed, high Attack, high Defense).
--Chikorita has a hard start and evolves into a Solid Wall (low-decent Speed, low-decent offenses, high defenses).
