"The same game we have been playing for 10 years"

When Pokemon Gold and Silver released 10 years ago, they were very amazing for their time. It introduced the time system, new Pokemon, items, poke gear and etc. It also had very good gameplay. They became instant classics. 10 years later, Pokemon Heart gold and Soul Silver was released in Japan. It brought the same things as the originals and some new stuff. How does this game do with the original? Let's find out.

Story (2/10)

The story in the game is where you are a Pokemon trainer who meets the local professor called Professor Elm to get his/her starter Pokemon who goes and collects badges to fight the Elite 4 to become a Pokemon master while meeting some villains named Team Rocket who want to do bad stuff. Overall the story is very basic and boring with little to no excitement. It's the same story since the original Red and Blue

Gameplay (6/10)

The story may be bad but the gameplay isn't. You can do a ton in the game. Some examples include battling, Safari zone, and Battle Frontier. Most of the stuff is recycled but there is still enough new stuff to last your time. The gameplay overall is very varied with a ton of stuff to do so you won't get bored. One example is the Safari zone in which you can customize and and catch Pokemon. Don't be fooled as most of the stuff is recycled, short, or gets repetitive fast.

Graphics (7/10)

The colors are very bright and cheery. The buildings and characters are not very detailed because the game uses sprites but it is still good. The graphics are not stunning nor bad but it is still nice. One minor complain is that some of the sprites are very bad. Overall the graphics are plain decent.

Sound (4/10)

In the game there are two types of sound, the Pokemon sound and the music. The Pokemon sound are screeches that are very annoying. It is very low quality sound. The music on the other hand, is amazing. Some tunes are very good that they will be in your head. There is also a device that after you beat the game, you can listen to old music in 8 bit. Overall the Pokemon sounds are bad while the music is very good.

Replayability (8/10)

After you beat the game, you can do whatever you want. You can Challenge the Battle Frontier, Competitively battle, or catch em all. Although there is much more stuff to do in the game, those 3 are the main things to do. You can restart the game but prepare to be bored.

Final Rating (4 /10 )

Don't get me wrong, the games are excellent and should be played by people who never played Pokemon or hard core Pokemon fans. It's just the story and content of the game that “breaks” it. The game has recycled and repetitive content and story.
