Dragon Quest 9 Bonus?

I connect both DQ9 and DQMJ2 to Tag Mode, but it never works. Do I have to beat the game first?

If you're using a 3DS, make sure you switch on Wi-Fi. Another user on this board had a problem with the Tag mode until he realised that his 3DS wifi switch(?) was not set to on.

If you put both games into tag mode - that is to say, you activate J2's tag mode from the menu and activate IX's tag mode through the Quester's Rest - you should end up with a battle against a Teeny Sanguini or something after you disconnect. You can do it before beating the game.
