GameFAQs Help: About the Site

Who owns and operates GameFAQs?

GameFAQs is owned by CNET Networks, Inc., and is operated as an independent site in the CNET Networks Entertainment division, along with GameSpot, MP3.com, TV.com, and others.

The founder and original owner of GameFAQs is Jeff "CJayC" Veasey, who has since retired from operating the site. Allen "SBAllen" Tyner is currently the only full-time operator of the site and is responsible for all editoral decisions on the site, as well as a good portion of the site's design and coding. Data, technical, and design assistance, as well as all sales and marketing, are provided from GameSpot and CNET Networks Entertainment staff.

The FAQs, guides, saves, cheats, reviews, and all of our core content is provided by our users; any user can contribute to GameFAQs, and over 45,000 users have done so to make the site what it is today.

Why does the logo at the top of the screen say "GameSpot: GameFAQs"?

In order for multiple sites covering the same topic (in our case, games) to be counted as a single site for advertising and audience measurement, they must share a common default design and logo. This is only required for the default design of the site; several other skins are available that provide different views.

When did GameFAQs start?

GameFAQs was first launched on November 5, 1995, by its founder, Jeff "CJayC" Veasey. It began as the "Video Game FAQ Archive", and was originally on AOL member web space. The domain "gamefaqs.com" was registered on September 11, 1996, and by the end of 1996 the site was officially renamed as GameFAQs.

How closely integrated is GameFAQs with CNET and GameSpot?

GameFAQs was purchased by CNET in the summer of 2003, but is still operated independently. GameFAQs and GameSpot share the same game database, some material is displayed on both sites, and its users access the same message boards for games. However, all GameFAQs editorial/approval/administration is handled by the GameFAQs staff, and vise-versa.

Can I get a job at GameFAQs?

Not exactly, but you can get a job at CNET in the CNET Networks Entertainment division where GameFAQs is. CNET's job listings are available online, and openings come and go all the time. Alternately, you can always contribute to the site in any way you wish.

How can I advertise on GameFAQs?

CNET/GameSpot handles all GameFAQs promotions and advertising. For more information, see their contact page.

What should I do with problems and/or concerns?

You cannot currently email GameFAQs. If you are still having problems with the site after reading all of the Help Files, it is suggested that you search the Message Board Help board for advice on what to do next.
