Top 10 Lists: The Top 10 Non-Resident Evil Characters That Would Survive In The BSAA *SPOILERS*

What is the BSAA? It is the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance. Created after the fall of the Umbrella Corporation and enlisting top survivors such as Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, and Leon S. Kennedy, their job is to track down all of Umbrella's experiments that have somehow gotten out into the open market, and eliminate them before another Racoon City incident occurs. Umbrella left one hell of a mess to clean up, and the BSAA needs all the help it can get to do the job. The question is, who is worthy? I believe these ten characters are, and the least amount of futuristic tech, magic, and/or superpowers they have, the more extraordinary they will be, because all of the current members of the BSAA are only human.

Dante is a badass. No question there, pretty obvious. The reason he's the lowest on the list is because of his sheer power. Anyone on this list with magic, superpowers, or futuristic technology will be automatically downgraded. In addition to being half-demon and nigh-indestructible, he's also a master of melee and ranged combat with deadly demonic weapons and guns that never run out of bullets. Even if that lunatic Wesker got hold of his devil DNA and used it to make an ultimate bio-weapon, Dante would still trash it. The only reason I'm including him on this list is because the original prototype for RE4 was recycled and turned into DMC, so it all fits.

Shoot them in the head. That's the golden rule when dealing with zombies. Knives and swords are not recommended because even if they are sharp enough to cut a zombie's head off, it would probably take too long to do so and you'll be dogpiled by other zombies in no time. Ryu, however, has no such problems to lopping off heads with his trusty Dragon Sword, or any of his other ninja weapons. And if that doesn't work, he has ninpo skills to make zombie chowder with, so despite being born human, he's on equal footing with Dante. In fact, he actually has more experience than anyone on this list, save for number one, so that also gives him an edge.

How many of you have heard of this game, let alone played it? C'mon, be honest. Well this is a somewhat low-tech and little known survival horror game that's quite excellent and creepy, despite being in the shadows of the big dogs of the genre. In this game, a renegade excorcist named Doman is performing a forbidden ritual that turns a manion full of people into grotesque mutants and freaks, and he even sacrifices his own daughters as part of it. After playing through the first two chapters, you reach the final chapter and get to assume control of the master excorcist Abe no Seimei. Unlike the first two characters, whose weapons are weak and spell/summon cards and items scarce, Seimei comes full equipped to mow down everything that gets in her way. Her skill with the spear and powerful magic are far beyond the other two characters, making the game less of a survival horror challenge and more of a slugfest by the time you get to this point. I don't know how effect the ceremonial spear would be, but Seimei's magic would be mighty useful against those nasty bioweapons; pity she lived during the Heian period of Japan.

See, this is getting closer to the theme here. In fact, I can easily imagine a scenario in which Aya Brea would get caught up in the Racoon incident. During her first game, she was a NY cop that discovered that she had what are called Neo-Mitochondria swimming around in her cells. Unlike the normal garden-variety mitochondria, hers are sentient and able to work with her more symbiotically then normal, giving her greater power. Which is good, because it so happens that her enemy, Eve, is a human controlled by Neo-Mitochondria gone parasitic and hellbent on world domination, and Aya's the only one that can stop her. In combat Aya mainly sticks with guns but is able to unleash parasite powers such as energized shots, superspeed, healing, and a deadly multi-hit attack called Liberate that turns her temporarily into some bizarre angel thing that pounds the crap out of the competition. In the second game her powers took a more elemental role with customized upgrade capabilities, and her most useful powers then by far are all pyrokinetic, and zombies of any variety hate fire.

Okay, I'll be honest here: I haven't played a lot of Halo. Not really into shooters myself, with some exceptions. However, I've heard the stories about this guy, and I did play enough to know that he can fight. He's not a legendary soldier for nothing, and let's face it, no zombie is going to be able to chew through that awesome armor. Master Chief would make it in the BSAA, for his skills on the battlefield and high defense, and after dealing with the Covenant and the Flood, bioterrorism would be like a vacation for him.

Unlike most of the characters on this list, Dr. Freeman was never supposed to be a fighter, but a scientist. But when his experiment at Black Mesa goes wrong and he gets caught up in a battle between aliens called Xen and the government's Hazardous Environment Combat Unit, he has to learn to fight or die. So, no pressure doc. He is known to wield a crowbar with fatal skill, and while guns are the weapons of choice against bio-weapons, it has been shown in Shawn of the Dead that bashing their heads in is also effective, and a crowbar is more destructive than a cricket bat obviously. Dr. Freeman of course gets hold of better weapons later on, and if that doesn't work he can think his way out of trouble because he's a physicist and that must count for something because physics is a hard subject to get a handle on.

Here's another guy that wasn't really trained for battle, he's an engineer. Isaac was supposed to be on a routine assignment to repair a busted mining ship but alas, nothing is ever that simple in a video-game. Instead, he finds himself fighting to survive and escape from a dead ship full of bloodthirsty necromorphs; monsters that not only kill their victims but also turn them into more necromorphs, and if I didn't know any better I'd swear they were more of Wesker's pets on a rampage. And to make matters worse, they're really hard to kill, they have to be dismembered in order to be killed. From the looks of all the blood and gore on the ship, most of the people didn't figure that out in time. Not only is Isaac a good fighter and a resourceful survivor, but his experience has taught him to be less conventional in fights against these horrible monsters.

Most of his weapons are modern, and he's almost purely human. The only superhuman thing about Beckett is his telesthetic powers, but he has no real use for them aside from maybe the whole bullet time thing, and with Alma around they're more of a liability than a benefit. Beckett is your standard one-man army type of guy, and while he has pretty much no experience against monsters, the veterans of the BSAA didn't either at the very beginning of RE so that's not much of a deterrent to his potential.

Heather Morris, aka Cheryl Mason, aka Alessa Gillespie, has had her fair share of disturbing atmosphere and terrible freaks to deal with since childhood. Despite being the intended "mother of God", she's really just your average teenager, just trying to survive a very bad situation and ultimately searching for vengeance. Surviving a place like Silent Hill is no easy task, given that the town pulls your inner demons out and turns them loose on you, but she survived nontheless and prevented the end of the world while she was at it, using melee weapons just as much as guns, so she'd get into the BSAA with honors.

Snake? Snake?! SNAAAAKE!!! Here he is folks, the man, the legend, Solid Snake. Who could've doubted he'd be at the top of the list. Aside from being somewhat genetically engineered to be the perfect soldier, he's all human, but that doesn't stop him. Time and time again he's proven himself to be unstoppable in the face of world-threatening armies and giant, nuclear armed robots. Much of the time he's even succeeded with as little fighting as possible with his stealth skills. Are zombies smart enough to look under a cardboard box? Not bloody likely. Ganados and Majini, maybe, but he could save all his bullets for them if stealth doesn't work, and if all else fails, he can always take a ride on Metal Gear Rex and have a stompin' good time of it.

There you go, my top ten candidates for the future of the BSAA. This was my first top ten list in fact, I hope I did it alright. Some people I've noticed have trouble picking just ten people because they know of too many that would fit, and save this space for honorable mentions, but I had the opposite problem, so if there was a person that would've like to see here then tell me about it and try and play the game sometime. 'Til then, this is Storm Walker, signing off.
