Top 10 Lists: The Top 10 Creepiest Spell Casters (*SPOILERS*)

Since the beginning of time there has been tales of people who possess powers of unknown and mystical origins. In the land of video games these people have been portrayed in many sharps and sizes, but regardless of who or what they are they can all be call spell casters. Some of these spell casters are cool, funny, or down right creepy. With Halloween just around the corner the question rose of which spell casters are the creepiest. In an attempt to answer this question I have searched high and low for the creepiest of creeps, so here they are in the top ten creepiest spell casters.

Ok so this may have a bunch of people wondering why she is on this list. Well first off let us take notice of her attire it is made up of a black dress with a bunch of black belt buckles so already she looks really gothic. Then let’s think about her weapon, a doll that she can have run up to her opponent and attack then. Thirdly though her spells are pretty basic for the Final Fantasy franchise Lulu get very powerful by the time she learns spells like Flare or worse Ultima. With all that in consideration there is no better place to start when talking about creepy spell casters.

This is probably one of the most unexpected names to appear on this list. Genis is a young kid from the Village of Iselia who is a natural genius, a specialist in black magic, and the scary thing his is only about twelve years old. He possess sick and very powerful, if not over powerful magic, for a kid. Later in the story the players learn that he was raised by his sister Raine who also is or at least was his teacher. Genis is a half elf, and in this world half elves are despised, so the player can guess where he gets his motivation to use and master such devastating magic spells like Thunder Blade and Dreaded Wave which are primary examples of spells that live up to their names. Genis goes to show that some innocent spell casters can be just as creepy as some of the much more evil ones.

What would a list about creepy spell casters be without this guy? For starters he looks like some hideous thing from the twilight zone crossed with a London street thug. Secondly the player finds out later in the game that not only is he the king of the Gerudo Thieves, but the only male Gerudo. Thirdly he intendeds to take complete control of Hyrule as well as take over the Sacred Realm. Finally he has very nasty powers that make him a pain to fight that also gives him a monster form after the player successfully defeats his human or Gerudo form. For what it is worth Ganondorf takes the number eight spot hands down.

Ok, I know that this one is kind of out on the limb because a Beholder is more of a demon or monster rather than a spell caster in some standards, but if one where to take into account their very powerful magic they would certainly qualify as a spell caster. In this game the player gets to take on one particular and rather large one. First off the Beholder is a giant floating sphere like mass of flesh with a large eye and several tentacles on top of its head each of which has an eye on the end. This thing also possesses very sharp demonic looking teeth and a slimy tongue, but regardless how creepy it looks the Beholder is by no means a dumb monster, thus making it even creepier. This Beholder is the true head of the thieves’ guild, and like in most thieves’ guilds he did not get that job for nothing. The magic of the Beholder is very painful this thing has spell that are extremely hard to avoid for example it can shoot a spread of magic missile at the player that swerve in and eventually hit the player each of which can do server damage if one is unprepared for it. There you have it one creepy thing with nasty spells in the number seven spot.

Just when you thought the Beholder was creepy here is our number six spot Mote. In Breath of Fire Mote is a servant or follower of Zog whose main purpose is to get a hold of the key of Tyr. For starters Mote looks like something like Gollum from the Lord of the Rings crossed with a sadistic troll, so off hand we have a creepy looking freak of nature. When the player first hears of Mote the player learns that he used the season key to lock the town of Spring in an eternal winter. When the player goes after Mote he tosses the player into a dream world where everything is confusing and mainly out to kill the player. In this dream world the player encounters Mote’s conscience that seems to be equally as creepy as Mote just not as sadistic. Finally when the player fights Mote he takes the form of a bunch of pixilated squares that begin to take form slowly after every hit he takes from the party. He has some very deadly spell, and before his conscience shows up he is practically immune to spells so casting them before then is just a waste of magic. If the player succeeds in making Mote show his form the player is given a look at a creepy looking mushroom thing with features of an octopus amongst other things. When he gets to that form he begins to cast spells the can really hurt spells like Inferno and Burn out. Mote take the six spoke with being all round creepy.

I don’t know if this guy can be considered a real spell caster, but since he acted like one here he is. Kefka was very creepy first off he dressed kind of like a demented clown. He also possessed a very large desire for power and to do evil things like throw off the balance of the world, which nearly destroyed it. In combat he was usually easy until the final battle, or more appropriate battles, when he has many forms and lots of very nasty spells like Fallen One and even Ultima. All of these factors made this guy very creepy to such a degree that some players went out of their way to avoid him, but none of these factors seemed creepier than his annoying laugh, that sounded like a broken guitar, every time he did something evil.

This guy is probably the reason why this list was even thought of, and why not just because he was creepy when I look back on this game he is really easy to remember. First off he was able to fire spells that include his Volcanic Eruption spell which was something to look at. Shang Tsung was able to morph in to any other character in the game some of which required such complicated button combination that the game gave the players a rule that allows them to limit the amount of time he stayed that way or by only letting become on of three which a much easier method. As if the morph ability was not enough to make this guy a very creepy spell caster his Fatalities where nothing to laugh at because they where hideously powerful that shown what kind of spell caster he was one of his most remembered finisher was when he knocked his opponent into the air and then forms a huge spike for them to get impaled by on their way down. Even his Friendship was creepy because he turns him self into a toy robot a hops off screen, so hint why he is number four.

Now we are really getting down to the really creep spell casters. The number three spot is one of those casters that many people would expect to find on this list and the reason is very obvious. If we have anyone who is unfamiliar with this guy let me state that the game directly calls Kuja a guy, but he looks like a female especially in cut scenes. Kuja also possesses very powerful if not stifling magic. To put it simple he was able to steal the summoning ability from Garnet and he used it later to summon Bahamut to destroy Alexandria. If that is not enough to drive the point let me tack on the fact that he is Zidane’s brother, so in that fact there are two huge things that are creepy one is that he is related the main character the second is it flat out says brother.

Yes I know Chrono Trigger this game possessed many creepy spell caster, but none in this game where more creepy than this one. Our by far a real number two, Flea. First off when you first fight Flea you find out that it was a monster and not the real Flea. After you defeat the monsters, however, you get to meet and fight the real Flea. In Magus’s fortress after you kill the false Flea what looks like a women appears from the bats and says, “Giving up, little tadpole?” This is where Marle speaks up saying,”Who is this person?” Then Frog says, “Keep your guard up! This is no ordinary woman! Meet Flea, the magician!” Now Flea a little baffled say,” What the...?! Hey, I'm a GUY!” I believe that puts an easy definition to why Flea is number two who a little later says “Male... female... what's the difference?” Uh, that is way creepy.

And it is time for our number one spot which it is true we are practically now talking about a game that most people never heard of so believe me when I say it possessed a cast of characters that was freighting and strange to the core. If you thought Flea was creepy Kakurine is about ten times worse and by far takes the cake in terms of creepy. For starters Kakurine is a very powerful little girl priestess, at least that is what we are suppose to believe at the beginning of the game. She floats a few feet off the ground and has spells that involves hoop like things and dolls. Like every other character in this game she is capable of trap throws her first one is she pulls out a voodoo doll of the opponent and she has it fly through the air and crash into the ground now at the same time the opponent flies through the air and crashes into the ground. Kakurine can catch the opponent inside a ring in which then Kakurine flicks the enemy in the head which then goes flying. Her other throw is she charges up to the enemy and goes vampire on them and drinks their blood, this is the players first hint the Kakurine is not what she appears to be. Before Kakurine fights the final boss she speaks in a full grown man’s voice saying, “I’ll kill you so you will love me again.” This has a tendency to leave an everlasting impression on the player who probably never play her again unless they what to creep out some one on multi-player it is no wonder why she or more correctly he is here at number one. If you are still not convinced then the only thing that will convince you is to find out yourself, but I warned you.

That should conclude this list, and may I say after recalling all of these creepy spell casters I am more than happy to be at the end this list with high hope that the next list be a little less creepy than this one. So thanks for reading, and now that I think about it some of these casters may be creepy yet at the same time they are rather funny to the general well being of the world of video games.
