Top 10 Lists : The Top 10 Elemental Users: Electricity (SPOILERS)
Having the ability to wield electricity in the palm of your hands has always been a lifelong dream of mankind. Since such a feat is not possible in real life, people turn to video games to make their dreams a virtual reality. Heres to counting down the top 10 electricity users in video games. Get ready for a rather............... shocking experience...........and several bad puns. Please note that a * indicates that there are spoilers in that specific section.

Kicking off our list is The Apprentice, or some know him as Starkiller, from the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed series. He's basically Darth Vader's apprentice, so he was taught to beat up jedis and boy can he do it with style. Wielding his lightsaber in a rather unorthodox method, he also wields the ability to use the force and conjure elctricity much like other Sith lords, such as Count Dooku. Since he is only limited in his ability to use electricity, he stays at number 10, but I'm sure we can all agree that he's still awesome with or without this ability. However, with the announcement of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, we might be able to see more of Starkiller's lightning powers.

While the gaming community may not be very familiar with the Naruto series, you'll be confused. But don't worry, I'll simply explain what Naruto is about:...........Ninjas. That's right, its about stereotypical ninjas, you know the kind that can run on water, throw shurikens, teleport out of a situation in a puff of smoke. Among them is Sasuke Uchiha, good guy turned bad. So why is he in this list? well, before he ditched his best friend (Naruto Uzumaki) and became a bad guy, he learned some lightning based techniques and after he made reappearance as a bad guy, Sasuke becomes so adept at using lightning based attacks that he can even shoot it out of his sword. Ninja powers+ sword + and electricity powers makes Sasuke instant win.

Jack is a survivor of a plane crash (no I'm not talking about the guy from Lost) and finds himself in the lost city of Rapture where he must fight for his life against mutated creatures called splicers. Jack later injects himself with special plasmids in order to strengthen his survival rate against the splicers. Among them are a special type of plasmid that can shoot electricity. Sure guns and wrenches work and are handy but who wouldn't want to shoot electricity from the palm of their hands? Whats even more handy is that Rapture takes place UNDERWATER. Yes, Underwater. That means if you control these abilities while in Rapture, you are basically god. Now the hunters become the hunted......at least until Jack runs out of plasmid powers and has to re-inject himself again.

Now Marvel comics has been known to be an icon of superheroes so its only natural that at least one person could use electricity. Since there were so many to choose from, I chose only one as it'd be uninteresting if the list only consisted of only marvel characters (nothing personal to Marvel fans). Sure I could have picked Electro, or Storm but when it comes to the best of the best electricity users, I'd have to go with Thor. Why? Well first off, he's the Norse god of thunder, he's ripped, and he's even getting his own movie in 2011! Even though Electro is basically all about electricity, he's still boring and unheard of by a lot of people. Yes, Storm had a movie (X-men series) but she was only a support character overshadowed by Wolverine's awesomeness, even if she did look hot. Thor, he'll get a movie all by himself and he won't share it with anyone (the gods sure are greedy). Oh and did I forgot to mention, he's played by actor Chris Hemsworth (the guy who played the role of Cpt. James T. Kirk in J.J Abram's 2009 Star Trek Movie. SIT DOWN ELECTRO AND STORM! END OF DISCUSSION!

The FF (abbreviated form of Final Fantasy) series is the Call of Duty of JRPGs. Its popular in their region, fun to play, and has a lot of controversies (like which FF is the best). If you know anything about the FF series, you'll know that a lot of elements are found in almost every game (chocobos, swords, spells, etc.). Among them is Ramuh, the summon spirit of thunder who appears in the form of a really old dude. But make no mistake, Ramuh isn't the kind of old man who babbles on and on about his history or yells at young folks. No, Ramuh is probably the most scary and dangerous old guy you would ever run into (if he were real). Using his signature move, "Judgement Bolt," Ramuh punishes his foes with a mighty bolt of lightning that will make even bosses cringe in fear of the almighty giant.

The mean, green, Brazilian beast from the SF (Street Fighter) series is best known by the name Blanka. How a man ever became green is beyond me but the even bigger mystery is: how on earth did he manage to harness electricity into his body!? Regardless, Blanka is a force to be reckoned with. In his first appearance in SF2, he became infamous for shocking opponents by rapidly pressing any punch button (that's right button mash to your hearts content). His electrical harnessing powers were upped even more in the introduction of SF4 where he got his new ultra combo, Lightning Cannonball (which is exactly as it sounds), and in Super SF4, he gained a second ultra combo, Shout of Earth (discharges lightning through the ground or directly above him). The rule of thumb when facing Blanka is if you get too close, you'll be seeing the game over screen...a lot.

Coming from the Mortal Kombat series, Raiden is exactly what his name means; "Thunder and Lightning." Raiden can do it all, ranging from thunderclaps to a painful electrocution after prompted by the announcer's "FINISH HIM!" line. But what separates him from the others in this list? Its simple, Raiden is less limited and has more control over the abilities of electricity than Starkiller, Jack, Sasuke, and Blanka. As great as Ramuh is, he only has one attack and isn't even playable, so sit down grandpa. While Thor is also the god of thunder, he also uses a magical hammer, Mjollnir, to help him while Raiden relies on pure strength and brutality. In fact if these two ever got in a fight where only electrical powers are allowed, I'm fairly confident that Raiden would win. Why? Because he's from Mortal Kombat! The fighting series that puts the brutal in brutality. But it looks like you'll have to dust off your old Sega Genesis if you want to play as Raiden again, as the new Mortal Kombat will arrive later than expected (in Q2 2011!). In response to this, I think I speak for all Mortal Kombat fans when I say.....FINISH THE GAME!!!

Yet another god on the list. However, this time, we're talking not about the god of thunder, but the GOD OF GODS!. Even though Thor is the Norse (Scandinavian) god of thunder and Raiden is the Shinto (Japanese) god of thunder, Zeus is the immortal Greek god of all other Greek gods. In the God of War series, you play the role of Kratos where you initially must kill the god of war and then become the god of war. But then Kratos later betrays the gods and is forced to fight his way to kill the head honcho, Zeus. With the ability to make it rain lightning bolts, it's clear why Zeus is the god of gods. In the wise words of Zeus: "EAT LIGHTNING BOLT SUCKAS!"

Everyone's favorite yellow mouse you'd love to hug, then get painfully shocked, is back. That's right, Pikachu from the Pokemon series makes its appearance on our list at number 2. While he is small, this electric mouse Pokemon is not only the face of the franchise but also one powerhouse electric Pokemon. While I could have made this whole list full of electric type Pokemon (seriously, there's about 30+), that would have the list boring and the title would have been: Top 10 Electric type Pokemon. Since he's a fan favorite and almost everyone knows hims, I thought I'd save the trouble of adding an electric type Pokemon nobody was familiar about. Why #2? Well not only is is loved by children, he can also be made into a deadly Pokemon if used correctly in the Pokemon series. If this Pokemon can power up an entire house with his electric powers, wait until you see what our # 1 spot can do...

And our number 1 electric user is none other than the infamous (i told you there would be some bad puns :p) Cole Macgrath from Sucker Punch's inFamous series. In inFamous, lets you take the role of Cole as you venture through the fiction city of Empire City where a bomb is detonated and the city is falling apart because of it. You, as Cole Macgrath, awake to find out that you now have the power to control electricity; ranging from simple electric shocks to devastating thunderstorms. So why is Cole in first place when almost all other entries are just, if not more, powerful than Cole? First off, the game lets you determine the path you want follow (be it good or bad) which is pretty cool since you get a different storyline, different powerups, and of course the chance to play as a bad guy (nice touch on that one Sucker Punch!). The second reason is that you can clearly see Cole's ability to control his powers improve overtime; as you start off with simple lightning bolts but then you start to develop more advance techniques such as thunderstorms, electric shields and the awesome Gigawatt blades, a set of blades created from electricity from Cole's body (think Wolverine but with electricity rather than metal). The final reason is....INFAMOUS 2! The guys at Sucker Punch as buffed Cole up even more, giving him a weapon, new attacks, oh and a NEW POWER! From what has been told, inFamous 2 will feature Cole having ice abilities. While we don't know much else, we can be sure that the game will be sick and awesome. Heres to you Sucker Punch and Cole, for making us believe that the dream of harnessing electricity has not died out yet.
Well there you have it, the Top 10 Electricity users of video games. Hope there was nothing too shocking about the results (o.k thats my last bad pun). If you were wondering what the "Elemental" part meant, its merely a start of a series of a Top 10 series I plan on doing. Depending on how this one goes, it might just come quicker than you'd expect. Other mentionable electricity users that didn't make the list are Hatake Kakashi (Naruto), Zapdos (Pokemon), Storm (Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2) and Johnny Ohm (Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects). Thank you for reading this super long list and enjoy the rest of your day/ night.
