Top 10 Lists : The Top 10 Antagonists Turned Protagonists *SPOILERS*
Before I begin to spout my ignorant and brazen opinion, I would like to thank everyone that has written me and also apologize for the wait for this entry. I wish I could tell you that it was because I was busy with my adventurous life with my girlfriend Zoe Saldana but from what I'm told (and according to the restraining order), we only date in my imagination. That's too bad, we would of had beautiful imaginary children. Now, on to the show.
As I said in my last Top Ten, sometimes doing the right thing can be entirely too troublesome so it's no suprise how many villian application that are submitted but, there are many examples of fictional characters that try the villian route and switch over.
My favorite example has got to be on again off again villian Magneto during the "Age of Apocalypse" storyline. In order to avoid an overload of nerdiness, I will have to be as short as possible: Professor X dies trying to protect Magneto. Magneto decides to take over the world. Apocalypse takes over the world first (pretty much). Magneto decides to save the world and lead the X-men. Everyone dies. The End.
The point is sometimes it takes something tramatic to happen in order to realize your true potential. It took pink lighting going through his son's body but Darth Vader finally realized the error of his ways. This Top 10 will reconize those characters in the video game world who decided to turn from evil and stand up to their "Emperor Palpatines" as well.

For everything you do, there are consequences. In the game Halo: Combat Evolved you play as Master Chief and stop the ringworld Halo from being activated. By any sucess there comes failure so because Master Chief saved existance, the guy in charge of stopping him was considered a failure. That failure doesn't seem to have a name (just like Master Chief, unless you've read the books). The Elite Covenant Commander was stripped of his title and sentenced to be tortured which most likely included watching High School Musical 1 through 3 and watching the deleted scenes where Zac Efron sings about puberty. Elite Covenant Commander was given a second chance. Now as an Arbiter, he was tasked to take out Heritics of the Church of the Flying Spagetti Monster. Arbiter aka ECC eventually discovers that the High priests that have been giving him orders his whole military career, wanted to destroy the universe. The Arbiter then joins battle with the humans in a slightly climatic fashion (not too impressive though). The best thing about this character is that he's voiced by Keith David who also voiced Goliath from the Disney cartoon "Gargolyes". Nobody messes with Goliath. Nobody.

Cecil is yet another guy who suffers from bad leadership and slightly lower intelligence. Cecil Captain of the Red wings (not the Hockey team) is ordered to head to the city of Mysidia to steal the Water Crystal. Upon doing this, people die, lots by the way. Cecil then decides to question his king who is the same guy that ordered him to steal the Water Crystal and kill anyone that gets in their way. To no ones suprise, the merciless king strips Cecil of his rank and is order to deliver a package to the village of mist. What a suprise! There's something evil in the package: A bunch of monsters and they only have two things on their minds: Rape and Pillage (Emphasis on rape). Cecil finally decides that maybe his king is evil and works on trying to protect others instead of killing them. Really, I don't know why he didn't notice he was evil in the first place. The dead people should of been his first clue. Or maybe the fact that he was a Dark Knight and for the exception of Batman, being a dark version of anything is never good. Dark plumbers sleep with your wife after they fix you toilet. Dark receptionist never keep your important messages. Dark pimps charge extra for black girls. Whoops, I went a little too far. Moving on.

At your first glance of Lloyd you'd probably think "Why did Sephiroth get a haircut" because essentailly, they do look very simalar. Although the physical features are remarkably alike, characters are very different; one was a dick all the time and the other what a dick most of the time. Even when Sephiroth was "good" he was a jerk. But they both kill a main character but at least the one Lloyd kills gets replaced with someone with the exact same moves as the last one.
Lloyd was a part of a race know as Winglies (Lord of the Rings equivalent to Elves). He was mysterious and had plans to steal magical artifacts. The main character (Dart) had plans on stopping him. It wouldn't of been much of a story if Lloyd didn't succeed so Lloyd gets the three artifacts, fights Dart and is defeated. Lloyd reveals that he has intentions to defeat is boss Emperor Diaz who is revealed to be Dart's father. He then chops off Dart's hand and Princess Leia senses that Dart's in trouble so she tells Hans to - Okay I took the joke too far.
Durning the confrontation Emperor Diaz appears to kill Lloyd but Lloyd somehow survives that ordeal just in time to sacrifice himself sometime later by giving Dart the Spirit of the Divine Dragoon and the Dragon Buster which is how Dart was able to defeat evil once again. Lloyd was a cool character but you never get to play as him so he lost cool points hence him being #8.

Hector (not to be confused with the Mexican guy I picked up at the back of Lowe's to fix my roof last Saturday) is a devil forgemaster who was once a subordinate of Dracula. Apparently, Hector got tired of living in a castle that had more rooms than the entire first season of MTV Cribs, so Hector resigned in order to live a normal life. While working as custodian in McTrannies (Transylvania's version of McDonald's; not a store where they sell transvestites) he noticed that despite Dracula being killed by Trevor Belmont, the town seemed to be still full of evil. Hector returns to the castle and sees that his former friend Isaac is still working the same "dead" end job (One of my worst jokes ever. Apologies readers).
In the end Hector defeats Dracula and helps lift the COD (Curse of Darkness; not Call of Duty). What I really liked about Hector was the whole devil forgemaster thing. It made me think I was playing pokemon except I was killing things. Killing things is awesome.

Now this one I can understand that the Apprentice could be argued for not being a Antagonist turn Protagonist because if you chose the Dark side then he never was a Protagonist: He was just a really angry kid. My retort is if you chose evil then you can't play the sequel. According to Lucas Arts, Star Wars TFU2 the story follows if you chose to stray from the dark side so your moral choices really didn't make a difference, well at least for the development of the next game. Starkiller was Darth Vader's secret apprentice and was told he was raised by Vader in order to defeat Emperor Palpatine. Starkiller trained and learned of the dark side as well as the light during his adventures. After a whole lot of betrayal and lightsabering, you'll be given a choice for revenge or saving a life. No matter what you lose though, you're going against James Earl Jones with a lightsaber. That's pretty epic.

Looking back at playing this game I never really truly realized that if it wasn't for Knuckles, you would of been able to start the game as Super Sonic without the aid of a code or anything. Knuckles was a part of some ancient race of animals who apparently suffered from elephantitus in the hands. Knuckles the Echidna was the last survivor of his species. Dr Robotnic's artifical planet the Death Sta.... I mean Egg crash lands on the floating island which no doubt killed the last of Knuckles relatives. Dr Robotnic discovers that Knuckles has an emerald that's called the Master emerald. He then tricks Knuckles into thinking that Sonic is trying to take the Master emerald away. Sonic then runs into Knuckles and drops all 7 chaos emeralds. Knuckles takes all of the emeralds and runs away. Quite ridiculous of a plot if I do say so myself. Eventually Knuckles discovers that the guy who crashed on his island and has a bunch of evil robots is the villian and Sonic was trying to finish off Dr Eggman. Dr Robotnic/Eggman is once again defeated and we end up getting a character that was definitely not needed. Don't get me wrong, I do like Knuckles, I just don't think Knuckles nor Raiden from Metal Gear Solid were needed additions.

Proto Man was created by Dr Light and Dr Wily as their first prototype to design many more robots like him. Proto Man is apparently just like Mega Man except that he can't take as much damage. He first appeared on Mega Man 3 where he was suffering from some type of jumping malfunction because he could not stop jumping and shooting his mega pellets. Proto Man was thought to be working for Dr Wily but he was in fact training Mega Man. I'm not sure who he was training Mega man for though. Dr Wily never made a Robot Master called Can't-stop-jumping-all-the-damn-time man and if he did, you could just defeat Ritalin man to get his powers.
Proto man eventally becomes a playable character. The good news is he doesn't jump all the time, unless your controller is broken. Mine is. *Sigh*

Jimmy Lee was the final boss on the original Double Dragon on the Nintendo Entertainment System. Weird thing is, you fight a guy with a gun before that. Somehow, a guy that's relatively an exact copy of you is in charge of that guy? Really? Game designers astound me sometimes.
Jimmy Lee was a villian due to the fact that at the time, developers couldn't use the NES to its full potential so instead of Jimmy fighting along side of Billy, they made Jimmy the final boss. A cheesy plot was worked around this game where Jimmy was working for the Black Warriors (though most of the warriors were white) and just because they say so, Jimmy wanted to fight his brother to the death. I really like Jimmy Lee because I played this game before I could even read: I was 20 when I first played the game. FML.

Now at number 2 is Sub-Zero who is a slightly complicated character. This Sub-Zero made his first apperance in MK2 because the original Sub-Zero (who was the other Sub-Zero's brother) was killed by Scorpion. On MK2 he was ordered to kill Shang Tsung and avenge his brother's death/failure. He neither kills Shang Tsung or kills Scorpion when he decides to run away because his clan Lin Kuei wanted to make everyone robots. By the way, being a ninja robot would be awesome right? Sub-Zero then gets a telepathic message from Raiden and he agrees to join his forces.
Sub-Zero had the "coolest" moves (Second worst joke I made. Apologies readers) of all the character on MK3. I was reading about this character and apparently the red magic marker over his eye is suppose to be a scar. Who did he fight, a dry erase board?
Sub-Zero almost wins.

The best bad guy turned good guy is a doosey. You can't really one up a time traveling-demolord-mage-prince of Zeal. Magus was the man and he had a plan:
Magus was originally a boy named Janus who was the Prince of Zeal during the middle ages. He encounters Lavos who was very leet (1337) at the time. Janus knew he'd get pwnd so he decided to time travel to grind some levels. During the level process he was a pretty crappy teammate, screwing over a whole lot of people. Pretty much, he did a lot of questing solo. He encountered a group of characters that had some pretty good gear and didn't seem like NPCs so he decided to tell them his intentions to defeat Lavos. After a short trial, Magus was allowed into the guild. They farmed a little gold and bought some awesome gear. Finally, they fought Lavos and are now the best guild on the server.
I may have paraphrased Magus's story a little bit but trust me, this guy is legit. You also have the choice to kill him but why would you do that? He's been kicking your ass since the beginning of the game. Killing a strong ally is very much against my Vulcan logic. I can't believe I said that. I'm a nerd.
In the end, good always prevails. Except in real life, and some movies, and pretty much anything that isn't on the disney channel. Everyone has a little good in them, getting that good out is usually the hard part. Hookers are pretty good at it from what I've heard. Just don't talk to any dark pimps. Greedy bastards.
Thanks for reading. Yet again (I know I sound like a broken record) don't be afraid to send me emails complaining or commending my work. I reply to everyone's emails no matter how many. Seriously, that's one of the reasons why it took me so long to write this top 10.
Until next time Gamers (I think you'll like my next Top 10)
