As we know, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS will be released in 2014. Smash Bros. 4 was revealed at the E3 2013 Nintendo Direct. The first newcomer revealed was the previously unfit-for-Smash, Animal Crosser aka Villager. Then, Mega Man from Capcom joined the battle. Later on in E3, we were ALL caught off guard when the Wii Fit Trainer was revealed. Some laughed, some were baffled and some didn't care. One of the biggest parts of Smash Bros., is it's roster. Masahiro Sakurai, the director of all four Smash games, is working alongside Namco-Bandai to create the best Smash game ever. In this Top 10 list, I ran a polling series on the Super Smash Bros. Wii U board asking people to list their top 5 newcomers. After listing the newcomers, they were placed in rankings. For the majority of the time, the top 3 were constantly changing. One time, it a purple dragon. Others, it was green crocodile with a crown. Sometimes, it was even a beautiful green-haired goddess. I got (in total) over 150 votes. So, I'm ecstatic to write my second top 10 list. This list is comprised of the characters that received the most votes. Before we start, we are going to take a look at the one newcomer who just couldn't make it to the top 10. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, our Honorable Mention:

Name: Owain
Universe: Fire Emblem
How were they represented in Brawl?: N/A
First Appearance: Fire Emblem: Awakening (2013)
Latest Appearance: Fire Emblem: Awakening (2013)
Previous Rank: N/A

Owain surprisingly made it in the top 10. I don't know how he did it but...he did it. Owain is from the Fire Emblem series, appearing in the most recent title (at the time of this list), Awakening. He is the future son of Lissa and he's mostly known for his funny quotes. He usually says things like, "MY SWORD HAND HUNGERS" and he usually references other Fire Emblem games like Radiant Dawn and Binding Blade. He places 11th on the list and is the Honorable Mention.

Rate Their Chances is a popular series on the Smash Bros. Wii U board that accumulates the mean of the scores that users think a certain character has. Owain is currently ranked #33 with a score of 4.56% out of 40+ characters.

Universe: Super Mario
How were they represented in Brawl?: Sticker, Trophy
First Appearance: Paper Mario (1998)
Latest Appearance: Paper Mario: Sticker Star (2012)
Previous Rank: N/A

Paper Mario is the main character from the self-titled series. The Paper Mario series are a series of RPG games that use the characters and likenesses of the familiar Mario series. It and the Mario & Luigi series are the only two RPG series of Mario and both are highly successful. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team launched just a few days ago (at the time of this list) and is very popular. Paper Mario had his last game in late 2012 aka Sticker Star. Sticker Star was a moderate success and received mixed reception from fans...from what I've heard.

Rate Their Chances is a popular series on the Smash Bros. Wii U board that accumulates the mean of the scores that users think a certain character has. Paper Mario is currently ranked #30 with a score of 15.41% out of 40+ characters.

Universe: Super Mario
How were they represented in Brawl?: Stickers, a song, trophy, Assist Trophy, Luigi's alt costume
First Appearance: Mario Tennis (2000)
Latest Appearance: Mario Kart 8 (2014)
Previous Rank: 2 (-7 spots)

Waluigi is from the best-selling video game franchise of all time, the Mario series. He makes his very first appearance in Mario Tennis as Wario's doubles partner. Although he first appears in Mario Tennis, he's been seen antagonizing the Mario Bros. (especially Luigi) for much longer than his debut. Not too much is known about his origins or anything as there is no confirmed background by Nintendo. His personality is basically being a sore loser, cheating to win and completely disregarding others' safety JUST so he can win. Although there is no clear relationship with him, most fans agree that Wario and Waluigi are related (usually as brothers, then sometimes with cousins) even though Charles Martinet said they are just two nice bad guys who enjoy bad things. Waluigi has never been seen outside the spin-offs aside from a few references, nods and mentions. The Smash 4 board and most of the world's opinions on Waluigi are usually mixed. Waluigi is a very controversial topic on the Smash 4 board and just the mere mention of his name causes arguments up the wazoo. I'm shocked he even made it on the list at all to be brutally honest.

Rate Their Chances is a popular series on the Smash Bros. Wii U board that accumulates the mean of the scores that users think a certain character has. Waluigi is currently ranked #12 with a score of 38.50% out of 40+ characters.

#8: Chrom

Universe: Fire Emblem
How were they represented in Brawl?: N/A
First Appearance: Fire Emblem: Awakening (2013)
Latest Appearance: Fire Emblem: Awakening (2013)
Previous Rank: N/A

Chrom is from the wildly popular Fire Emblem: Awakening. He is the main lord and one of the two main protagonists in the game alongside the Avatar (Robin). He runs the Ylisse Shepherds. He is accompanied by his trusted knight, Frederick and his little sister, Lissa. He fights to keep the world from plunging into darkness as some are trying to resurrect the fallen dragon, Grima. Along the way, Chrom fights many enemies and attempts to save the world from a living hell. He fights some interesting characters such as the Mad King Gangrel, sexy seductress Aversa and even the gigantic Conqueror of Valm, Walhart before fighting the evil Validar. Chrom fights alongside his friends and comrades-in-arms such as Vaike, Stahl, Tharja, Anna, Gaius, Basilio and many, many more.

Rate Their Chances is a popular series on the Smash Bros. Wii U board that accumulates the mean of the scores that users think a certain character has. Chrom is currently ranked #2 with a score of 75.00% out of 40+ characters.

#7: Isaac

Universe: Golden Sun (NEW)
How were they represented in Brawl?: Stickers, trophy, Assist Trophy
First Appearance: Golden Sun (2001)
Latest Appearance: Golden Sun: Dark Dawn (2007)
Previous Rank: 8 (+1 spot)

Isaac is the main protagonist of the acclaimed Game Boy Advance RPG, Golden Sun, and a supporting protagonist in both of its sequels. At age fourteen, Isaac, a Venus adept (a mage of sorts who uses psynergy which centers around the earth element), witnessed a terrible accident which resulted in the death of several people in his village, including his own father. Feeling guilty for being unable to help, for three years he practiced his powers. At age seventeen, his powers were put to the test when he set out to save his kidnapped friend, Jenna, and prevent her captors from lighting the elemental lighthouses, an act which could alter the entire universe. Revelations along his journey, however, may change his goals.

Rate Their Chances is a popular series on the Smash Bros. Wii U board that accumulates the mean of the scores that users think a certain character has. Isaac is currently ranked #9 with a score of 44.83% out of 40+ characters.

#6: Toad

Universe: Super Mario
How were they represented in Brawl?: Stickers, trophy, Peach's B move
First Appearance: Super Mario Bros. (1985)
Latest Appearance: Mario Kart 8 (2014)
Previous Rank: 11 [Honorable Mention] (+5 spots)

Toad is again, from the Super Mario series like his fellow characters Waluigi and Paper Mario. He appears as a very small person with a huge mushroom on top of his head. In most of his appearances, he's usually a sidekick. He's shown to be very cowardly and even though a lot of bad stuff usually happens, he's a very nice person and cares toward residents of the Mushroom Kingdom. Whenever Bowser kidnaps Peach for the 124325th time, he usually goes around screaming and getting scared. Although he has helped rescue Peach on a few occasians, Mario is usually the one saving her. He appears in the spin-offs as well and debuted with the original Super Mario Bros. Most people can remember him from his infamous line, "Thank you, Mario! But, our princess is in another castle!"

Universe: Metroid
How were they represented in Brawl?: Stickers, trophy, boss, songs, scrapped Assist Trophy
First Appearance: Metroid (1987)
Latest Appearance: Metroid: Other M (2010)
Previous Rank: 1 (-2 spots)

Ridley is a major antagonist from the Metroid series. He's the arch-rival of Samus Aran and fights her on multiple occasions. He's a high ranking Space Pirate and is known for being very defiant and persistent. Even though he is defeated many times, he always return for more blood. Despite his intimidating and fearsome appearance, he's shown to be very intelligent and can even speak in the manga of Metroid. Ridley is also very skilled at survival as he's been shown to regenerate his health back by eating human flesh.

Rate Their Chances is a popular series on the Smash Bros. Wii U board that accumulates the mean of the scores that users think a certain character has. Ridley is currently ranked #7 with a score of 56.11% out of 40+ characters.

Universe: Kid Icarus
How were they represented in Brawl?: Stickers, trophy, Pit's Final Smash
First Appearance: Kid Icarus (1986)
Latest Appearance: Kid Icarus: Uprising (2012)
Previous Rank: 4 (+2 spots)

Palutena (also known as Lady Palutena) is one of the two main characters of Kid Icarus alongside Pit and is Pit's patron deity. Palutena, the Goddess of Light, is the kind-hearted and beautiful ruler of Angel Land. She is very protective of Pit and commands an army known as Palutena's Army to fight off evil. I'm not going to spoil Kid Icarus: Uprising for you so I won't mention what happens later in the story. Palutena highly trusts Pit with just about everything and is shown to deeply care about him even to the point of saying she'd be lost without Pit.

Rate Their Chances is a popular series on the Smash Bros. Wii U board that accumulates the mean of the scores that users think a certain character has. Palutena is currently ranked #5 with a score of 64.45% out of 40+ characters.

Credit to pikachupwnage for the pic. Mostly because I couldn't find another smaller picture of Lady Palutena.

Universe: Donkey Kong
How were they represented in Brawl?: Stickers, trophy, song
First Appearance: Donkey Kong Country (1994)
Latest Appearance: Mario Super Sluggers (2008)
Previous Rank: 3 (+2 spots)

King K. Rool is the main antagonist of the Donkey Kong Country games and is the arch-enemy of Donkey Kong. K. Rool is shown most of the times stealing the Kongs' banana hoard and that makes DK go on a quest to get his beloved bananas back. King K. Rool, in most of his appearances, is a huge green crocodile with a red cape, crown and a gigantic belly. King K. Rool is usually one of the most requested characters for Smash 4 on the Smash Wii U board and he's usually viewed in a highly positive light. So far, the only big strike against his chances of appearing in Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS is his relevance. Some argue that his irrelevance in the DKC series hinders his chances at appearing. It's because he hasn't been seen since 2008 and fans are wondering if Nintendo has abandoned the lovable green croc. I believe he will return very soon and will likely show up in Smash Bros. 4.

K. Rool and Ridley were really neck-and-neck in the polls and then Palutena came to the #1 briefly. It wasn't until the last minute that K. Rool barely beat out Ridley and Palutena for the top spot.

Rate Their Chances is a popular series on the Smash Bros. Wii U board that accumulates the mean of the scores that users think a certain character has. King K. Rool is currently ranked #6 with a score of 62.39% out of 40+ characters.

It was fun writing this top 10 list. I really had a great time. It was challenging to find good pictures of the characters without stretching the damn page. Haha. There were a few characters who made it to the final 15 but were eliminated. such as Krystal from Star Fox, Takamaru from Nazo no Murasame-jo, Ghirahim from the Legend of Zelda and Saki from Sin and Punishment.

If this was my list, you would have seen unlikely characters such as Leon Scott Kennedy in the list. K. Rool would have been number 2 and Waluigi as number 1. Heh. Anyway, the criteria for this was that the character must have been on a Nintendo platform and they must be first or second party.

150-250 total votes were cast of the timeline of when I first started this back in the beginning of the summer. This went through a bit of a development hell but in the end, I got it ready after school and my personal life were interfering.

People said they wanted images of the characters to go with the list and I gave 'em images. People also wanted potential movesets, but I am in no position to do that. I suck at making movesets and the only time I did that was with Tom Nook and Juliet Starling (lol) a year ago.

If there is anything that could make this list better for the Winter 2013-2014 edition, let me know! I hope you enjoyed reading this list and the bios for the characters! Thanks!
