Top 10 Lists: The Top 10 Best Ebay-Price-Inflated Games
With eBay's creation gamers have been able to buy any of the games they wanted but never got a change to get back in their heyday. This came as both a blessing and a curse to most gamers as formerly unknown games suddenly found new glory and jumped in price to astrological levels yet at the same time scouring local pawnshops for months in an effort to find older games became obsolete. This list encompasses the best games that are priced $70 or over on eBay. The price always reflects the complete version of the game.
One of the highest priced games on this list selling for upwards of $170 in most conditions, Valkyrie Profile (VP) is a good game that might not be worth the price, depending on what type of gamer you are. An RPG created by the fellows at Tri-Ace this game's original setting and innovative battle system have been heavily praised by critics, but the story sequences which are overly drawn out and the linear nature of the game have be berated by some. Make no mistake, this is a good title but approach it with caution due to its high price.
This is one expensive next-gen puppy! Inexplicably, MVC2's worst version has become MUCH more valuable than any of the game's other, better versions. Don't be fooled though, the "worst version" of something that's outstanding in the first place is BOUND to be great, and MVC2 for the PS2 follows this rule. The game's loading times and graphics might be a bit worse than the DC version but thanks to the PS2's Dual Shock controller fighting feels more natural and better than ever! Oh, and that's not all: The entire super 2D fighter has been reproduced here! All of the 60 plus unique characters and the numerous stages have been translated to the PS2 more or less perfectly. Beyond that loading times haven't suffered much from than transfer either and the game's hectic fights are all the more hectic with the one-touch tag button
#8: Suikoden II (PS)
One of the most highly valued games you'll find on eBay. Pristine copies of this game usually go for upwards of $100 and sealed copies can reach fabulous prices of over $200 in some cases. Suikoden II however, is worth those hard earned $100 of yours because completing the game will take you weeks, if not months. It's a huge game with a good story and an original battle system which lets you bring more characters into a battle than some RPGs give you in total! Collecting the 108 stars also adds to the challenge of the game and lengthens it considerably in addition to populating your castle with all kinds of people.
#7: Shenmue II (DC)
Now this is a game with a story! Original planned for a DC release, during the final months of the system, the game never saw a US release because Sega sold the rights to the North American continent to Microsoft! But fans needed not despair for the game was released in the UK for a "mere" 75 quid... of course, a UK "quid" is about 2 US dollars so that makes this game's price WELL above the $150 range. If you're a DC fan this is a no brainier since the game's great story, its way of building up a character through the repetition of mundane tasks, its awesome fight system and its multilayered story have made it a fan favorite. Nevertheless, new buyers should approach this heavily priced game with caution, an Xbox version is just $20 and can be bought just around the corner.
If you're PC gamer than there is only one worthy name in the genre's PC itineration: Papyrus. NASCAR 2003 is Papy's last superb racing game and it carries with it all of the cries of PC racing fans around the world. Don't be fooled by the NASCAR license because this game is everything GT4 and Forza Motorsport have been trying to beat for years! From its intricately designed stock cars, detailed down to the last sticker and with fully functioning cockpits to its UNIQUE ovals, differing in surface, height, inclination and tarmac temperature NASCAR 2003 is, quite possibly, the greatest racing simulator this side of GTR2. What's more, the game's busy community has created mods, cars and tracks for this game to last you a decade... granted you can get past the game's draconic difficulty. And as a final salute to gamers Papy's racer is "cheap", clocking in (pun intended) at only $100!
Street Fighter Zero 3's Saturn itineration, arguably the best playing SF game, is one of the most prohibitively priced fighting games ever! With prices starting at $100 this gem of a fighting game will leave you with more than just blisters on your fingers, it'll leave you broke! However, if you must have the best animated, quickest loading, best controlling version of the best SF EVER than this is the version for you! It's everything Capcom has tried to do with the numerous ports of SFA 3 for other consoles, sans the characters, only that it's successful. With it's many ISMs and its healthy selection of characters SFA 3 is a great game on any platform but it's just better on the Saturn, and it's worthy of its price.
The most expensive PC game ever made, and the most recent game on the list, is the superb World of Warcraft! The game's limited quantity and its absurd popularity have led to a market for its Collector's Edition that is beyond anything ever seen on the PC! In all honesty you don't get much for owning the Collectors Edition outside of an exclusive in-game pet but considering that playing World of Warcraft can net you HUNDREDS of dollars later on through the sales of fully featured accounts, the price seems more than fair. In addition you're also buying into the most accessible and most popular online game ever made. The world of Warcraft is filled with colorful characters, great graphics, over 7 MILLION players and an itemization that only Blizzard can deliver. If you're ready to cross the bridge and step into the world of MMORPGs than WoW should be your primary choice!
THE SHUMP OF THE CENTRUY! Radiant Silvergun is an extremely expensive game most sellers' asking price beginning at $170 but the game is totally worth the admissions price. Not only is this one of the most original SHUMPS since the golden days of the early 90s but it's a beautiful game to boot. The graphics will draw you in like no other SHUMP you've ever played and the action on screen balances frantic shooting with total control of the situation to perfection. Not only all of that but RS is one of the Saturn's best games and is pretty lengthy to boot. If you have the money you should definitely get this game, it's worth every penny!
PDS is, hands down, the most expensive game on this list. While some of these games will sell for $250 SEALED the CDs for this game will set you back $150! This is, in many respects, the holy grail of many collectors but it's one game fully worth its admissions price. Unlike the other Panzer Dragoon games, which are all rail shooters, this one is an RPG set in a post-apocalyptic world... one of the most beautiful and intricate worlds that you've ever seen! Most RPGs have never even reached the story-telling perfection and descriptive qualities of PDS but add to that the game's intricately detailed world and functioning, yet uneventful battle system and you have one of the best RPGs no one's ever played. If you love RPGs, and if you're willing to pass up that new Xbox360 or PS3, then you should definitely check out PDS. It might not be as long or as "cheap" as some of the other games on the list, but it's worthy of its price and fame.
Chrono Trigger is the best RPG ever made. PERIOD! Square's "Dream Team", the creators of this RPG, have done WONDERS for the genre with the creation of Chrono Trigger. Never before, or since, has a game tackled such a classic story and presented in such a classy and timeless fashion. Never before or after has a game of this nature ever had such a seamless integration of WRPG battle mechanics and JRPG battle moves. Never before or after has ANY game had such a lovable character as Chrono, who, without uttering a single word throughout the story managed to have more personality than most characters who can never shut up. Chrono Trigger was the SNES' way to go out with a bang and boy, was it ever successful! The game is beautiful out of every aspect, from its exquisite graphics to its state of the art sound to its sublime gameplay and its extremely intuitive sidequests. And considering this game's US version is only $100 or less it's worth DOUBLE the asking price!
Expensive, rare, and glamorous: Just like Hollywood starts these games are high maintenance! If you think of yourself as a hardcore collector, and if you have over $1000 burning a whole in your pocket, then by all means, go buy these games!
